Rondrian Reviews Gamescom Gameplay
Redditor Rondrian was at Gamescom today and spent some time on playable demo, giving the Crusader a shot and decided to write a nice little review of his experience. We've learned some new things from him!
- A new gem is added - Diamond!
- All Resist and Armor are likely to be merged into the new stat Toughness. That's only for simplifying the character sheet, as both stats are still present in the detailed view
- The map in the demo had less dead ends and alternative routes to the goal
DiabloFans Quote:
So I played Reaper of Souls today for about 40 minutes on Gamescom in Cologne. The new class Crusader, plays a lot like a monk/barb mix, but I only played up to Level 40, which means, it might change later on. Will try to play a bit more in the next couple days to figure it out.
The art work and graphic detail is great as usual from Blizzard, but I think they even improved the detail level and atmosphere compared to vanilla diablo 3.
Monster design seemed to be improved as well, they are a lot darker and more ghulish, but imho it fits the game very good. A bit annoying was that tons of enemys where only spawning while running by them, needing you to stop running and wait for them before you could attack and kill them. It was really like 70% of the mobs in the beta, so I really hope they change that, because imho it interrupts the gameplay.
The two boss fights in the beta were kinda okay, nothing specials, usual destroy A) before you can damage and kill etc.
Also the level design for the couple of beta levels (only about 15 min per run, so not that much levels) looked improved, no endless dead ends, alternative routes to goals etc.
Loot Experience was a lot improved, there were barely any whites, a few blues, some yellows and three legendaries in 20 minute run. Even found one of the new legendaries: http://imgur.com/y7KWzmk
They removed a lot of statistics from the basic inventory view and focus completely on two values:
"Toughness" - which I assume is something like EHP from all the calculators that we know and love. "Damage per Sec" - which is the usual added damage per second
Of course 40 minutes was way to short to figure out exactly how they are calculated, but you also only get those two values on items to compare them to what you have equipped.
Sadly couldn't see or test any of the other announced features like:
- Level cap being raised to 70!
- Paragon changed, now account wide and allows you to allocate stat points.
- New artisan to change the appearance of your gear.
- Enchanting - re-roll affixes on legendaries.
edit
Totally forgot, there is also a new gem: "Diamond" and if I remember correctly from my mind it has at least "+ to all resis" on something, not sure anymore what the other were, will try to get the details tomorrow.
DiabloFans Influencing Diablo 3?
Two things came to our attention today that might be interesting to our readers. One is a glimpse at a Blue Post from Grimiku that got deleted, explaining what Nephalem Trials are and the other of a visual effect we noticed on the Crusader video.
Edriel, one of the users that brought us some great suggestion topics, caught a Blue Post from Grimiku, where he gave details on Nephalem Trials. They're supposed to be another way to farm in the game. Basically, portals will spawn randomly in the world, which the players can enter and fight for several levels, being rewarded for reaching the end and making the journey efficiently. This reminds us very much of his idea - the Hells Portals. Check out Edriel's Blue Post topic over here.
The other is about another suggestion topic star - MrMonstrosity. In one of his posts he gives the idea of additional effects on Legendary beams, that give a visual evaluation of how powerful that item is. The effects were small particles around the actual beam, that increased in number the stronger the item was. And what did we see in the Crusader video? Check out the screenshot below.
Loot 2.0 Panel Video
Gamespot has posted the entire Loot 2.0 part of the Blizzard panel on Gamescom. Check it out below and bask in the glory of awesome Legendary items and item statistics!
Josh Mosqueira Gamescom Interview
Josh Mosqueira gave an interview for Gamestar during Gamescom and answered some questions that might be interesting to some viewers, like the inspiration for the Crusader, some additional information on Legendary items, Itemization and much more!
Super exciting!
here is my OT;

and example;
p.s. In order to comment on the youtube video, i had to remove the words "Auction House". Wow...
p.p.s I called loot 2.0 with the expac a few weeks back.
Yes, however, they also stated that the loot 2.0, paragon system, etc is coming to the base game as a free update. What's unclear is whether the loot runs and nephalem trials are included in that.
The AH was a solution to the Botting Spam and 3rd Party sites scamming people. It is still needed for that purpose so it should never be removed - but the BEST items in the game should only be able to be found not bought/traded! A BOA model is that solution to the issue that the AH created. BOTH need to Co-exist
I couldn't disagree more, it was implemented so blizzard got more of the profit pie after the initial sale. It's their own fault for giving gold a "value". People had NO problems trading for 13 years and counting in diablo 2. If you went through a 3rd party site, that was a RISK you were either Dumb enough or Brave enough to attempt. BOA is completely ludicrous, how am i supposed to trade with my friends?
Diablo is a loot FINDING game.. so I think FINDING the BEST items is what makes the most sense in Diablo. Diablo is not a loot BUYING/TRADING game.. to me anyway. FINDING is a lot more exciting than Trading..
I concur, i am not a pro AH advocate by any means, I'm merely saying: Get rid of the Ever Increasing inflation machine.
*edit* - while still allowing me to trade stuff i dont need to my friends who might.
I completely agree that trading should still exist. i am just saying that the top 0.5% of items that drop in the game if found are for you and for you alone. all the other 99.5% of items that drop but are not as ultimate can still be Traded/Sold on AH or to friends. I just want to have items in the game that if I find myself i am going to be like 'HOLY FUCKING SHIT' and sit there looking at the screen with a grin on my face.
Oh, and the paladin is back! At least in spirit.
i assume that by trading you mean item for an item... Well the problem is that people will create a currency out of gem, runes, rings, whatever. It is not a sollution, it's a downgrade. "people had no problems trading" yeah right... The AH just streamlines this whole trading experience. Or atleast it should be as so. The problem is that many events happened during the first year of the game that messed up the economy pretty bad. Still, it's a lot better than spamming trade channels. Get over it, this is not the year 2000 anymore. This crap won't work. Maybe it bothers you that everything today has to be streamlined and officially implemented, but it makes the lives of a million other people a lot easier. Do you think that i have time to spamm trade channels when i'm off from work? I barely have time to do like one act 1 run... So please stop with this nostalgic bullshit. You only think it was good because you were a lot younger back then. If the same systems from d2 would have been implemented in d3 it would have been a total mess.
Let's just hope they finalise them and make them EPIC!
Why do you say "it seems so"? They even said so in some interviews, especially during the one on DFans. And they even featured MrMonstrosity on the official B.Net page... ;-) Sure they're reading.
Many (if not all) of the previous patches have been offspring of suggestions, like Nephalem Valor IIRC... :-)
Where is he now? I hope collecting bottles and living in a fridge box xD
I assume that what you are telling me is: You are willing to pay for convenience, whether with a credit card, or with your time. But time is clearly something you don't have. Now before you get all upset, think about it. You can't play much because of work, yet, you want an auction house to make it more "convenient". How are you supposed to grind the gold to use this auction house? With what time? Pray for a lucky drop? Pray it rolls good? Pray there's not 15000 of them on the AH for far less than it's worth because its .5 crit chance off? Have you ever stopped to consider they have now raised the amount of gold you can sell in the AH 3 times? You know what that does, yes? It makes the value go down. IE: Ever increasing inflation, Eventually they're going to remove the cap in the Gold AH,,,, Guess what that's going to do? How's farming all that gold you need for those items gonna happen with your responsibilities? From your credit card. How's that nostalgia sound now?
