Auction House Maintenance, Patch 1.0.8 Feedback and Suggestions, Clarifications on Monster Power and Infernal Machine, Humans I

Auction House Maintenance
An Auction House maintenance is in progress right now, but Blizzard announced it just minutes before it started. The main difference with previous AH maintenances is this time it is unknown how long it will last. Affects only US.

Thank you for your patience.

Patch 1.0.8 Feedback and Suggestions
With the Patch 1.0.8 now live on PTR a lot of questions, suggestions and reports emerged regarding the quality of the changes and the patch notes. Various Community Managers took the time to answer the questions and investigate the errors players are getting.

Monster Density Feedback Needed
Hey everyone!

We really appreciate the feedback we're seeing on monster density (please keep it up!), but there's one area where we would appreciate a little more input.

We've seen a few players state that, in some areas, while density feels good, the pacing of monster spawns seems like it's a little too "evenly spaced" and methodical. If you'd had this same experience, let us know!
  • In what areas do monster spawns seem too evenly spaced (i.e. in constant stream)?
  • In what areas do you think monster spawns feel more "clumpy" and unpredictable (i.e. packs of lots of monsters with breaks in between)?
Archon Teleport Function Issues
The new teleport is wonderful--finally how teleport should've been all along. I'm really happy to see it fixed. But I'm just giving a heads up that the Archon Teleport doesn't port through walls/across gaps as the new teleport does. I assume they're supposed to function the same way.
Thanks for reporting this.

Should be fixed next PTR patch, whenever that is. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

Blacksmith: Сollapse All Items
Hey, Please add it into 1.0.8. When we have more than 100 new reciepts, the list of items on weapon or armor tabs became so huge so we need to scroll it down so often f.e. to create infernal machine.
Please make it collapsed by default, or save the condition that was chosen in the last game. the same could be done for way points portal listing and for Jeweler's items.

Cool quality of life feedback. Thanks for posting! Passing this on. :) (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

Still No ETA for the Itemization Changes
So I take it from the patch notes that the patch in regards to rare items and legendary isn't the 1.08?
Correct. We've said from the beginning that the itemization changes Travis discussed were planned for beyond patch 1.0.8. We don't have a timeline to share right now (no ETAs or anything like that), but we'll definitely be keeping players in the loop as we continue working on those changes. :) (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

Nephalem Stacks Now Multiplicative
I'm on the PTR right now and every neph stack is going to the multiplier and not the base bonus experience.
Was this intended?
If it was, awesome update. Now it's actually worth it to stack up to experience farm in higher MP levels.
EDIT: Having over 1100% bonus experience makes farming experience in MP10 fun.

Confirmed: intentional!

We know a lot of players were doing runs where they'd play high MP and skip Elites. That's still an option, but we wanted to make Elites more enticing. This seemed like the best way to do it that worked across all MP levels. Let us know what you think/how it feels!

(Also, moving your post to the PTR feedback forum.)

2. This may widen the gap between DH and other classes in terms of high MP efficiency, barring adjustments to DH (purely where it concerns those still under 100 paragon, of course).
Can't speak to this off-hand, but I'll definitely pass it on to the dev team tomorrow when I get back in the office.

Edit: Late night typos. Blergh.

Scorpion exp was nerfed because it was a heavily imbalanced way to farm experience. It became THE way to farm paragon levels, and if you weren't then you were doing it wrong.
To build off that, here's what Wyatt had to say earlier in response to the nerf:

http://www.reddit.co...vements/c97i0sm

Scorpions have had their XP reduced. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. We looked and considered buffing everything else instead, but in light of the multiplayer buffs we were already providing, we didn't want to inflate the game as a whole even further.
Specifically, Scorpions have had their XP reduced by 75%. That probably sounds like a lot at an emotional level, because it's never fun to have a source of XP reduced by that much, but I hope some can agree if you think about it - a mallet lord is worth 1.5x the xp a scorpion is. And that's not just mallet lords, most of the monsters in the game are within a certain reasonable ratio of one another and the scorpions were a very obvious outlier.

so this is only multiplayer or single as well?
Both. There are just additional bonuses in multiplayer that it can stack with. Simple calculation is: [ 100%(base) + bonus from MP + helm ruby + ring] * [1 + Up to 0.75 from NV + Up to 0.30 for multiplayer]

There's a lot of good discussion over on /r/diablo as well:

Errors
When try to connect to PTR got error: "The client does not match the account native language.
Please use the original client"). (Error 82)
My originial version is RU (Russian), but for PTR i can only download English version).
It's seems like "You pay for game so cheap, so we didn't give you any chance to go to PTR).
Many thanks...

This is in the process of being addressed. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

We're aware of an issue with the PTR character copy system that is causing players to receive an "account not found" error. We're currently looking into this, but do not believe we'll have a fix ready until tomorrow.

We'll be sure to keep you updated once a fix is found, and apologize for the inconvenience.

Thank you! (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

We're aware of an issue that is affecting our North American authentication servers which may result in failed or slow login attempts. We're currently investigating the cause and are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

We believe we've resolved the issue that was impacting player logins for some North American players. Please let us know if you continue to experience login issues.

Just got error 33 still.
you haven't resolved it. keep trying.
Are you receiving this error when you are trying to log into the regular servers, or the PTR server?

ptr only. I can get on normal servers just fine. and I do have an authenticator, if theres any suspicion on if thats causing the problem.
It's no problem. :) I know folks are eager to log in and play, and we're trying to resolve things just as quickly as we can. Thanks for the additional info!

We believe we've resolved the issues that were preventing players from being able to log into the PTR.

Please let us know if you continue to experience errors when trying to log in to the regular or PTR servers, and specify which error your received and which server you were attempting to use. If you can provide a screenshot, that's even better! (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

Coming Up With Ideas
You guys up at blizzard would have never noticed hadnt it been for moldran. Customer satisfaction 3/10... You guys come up with only ideas of others, aka Paragon levels: Kripparian... good going blizz.
Damn us if we listen to player feedback.
Curse us if we don't.

We make changes that we believe are good for the health of the game. Sometimes, those changes are going to be nerfs, sometimes they're going to be buffs. Sometimes they're going to be the result of internal testing, and sometimes they're going to be a product of player discussion. In this case, there's both a buff and a nerf, and they come from a combination of sources. We feel the game is in a better place because of them, though, and we hope that players will agree. (If not, PTR is the best time to tell us!)

Before you criticize too much, maybe hop on the PTR and see what you think? (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

The Purpose of PTRs
Not all patches will be released to the PTR, but it's an incredibly helpful tool for whenever we're making changes that can truly benefit from player testing and feedback. For example: monster density. We can also use the PTR to iterate quickly on content based on player suggestions (see the Ruby changes from 1.0.7, as well as cost adjustments for the crafted items).

I can understand that you're not personally in favor of PTRs, but we still feel they're beneficial to have and will continue to use them whenever we feel it's meaningful. Thanks for your input, though! (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

Clarifications on Monster Power and Infernal Machine
Monster Power levels and the Infernal Machine seem to generate a lot of questions that Grimiku addresses on the Official Forums.

Does this mean that a lvl 62 rare armor piece can have (besides armor) just as good stats as a lvl 63 rare?
Yep, that's what it means. :) As of patch 1.0.5, stat ranges on items are based on the level of the monster that dropped them. For example, if a level 61 monster drops an item level 58 bracer, the random affix stats will roll like an ilvl 61 bracer would. (This applies to Legendary and set items, as well.)

You can learn more here: http://us.battle.net...en/blog/7540457

And here: http://us.battle.net...g/7528695#items

Demonic Organs have a chance to drop if a player has 5 stacks of Nephalem Valor and is otherwise eligible for loot. It doesn't matter who opens the portal to initiate the Infernal Machine event. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

So once they are dead no more chance at obtaining body parts by going back in? They are dead and gone, right?
Correct, they will stay dead. The portal will stay open until you leave the game, but once the bosses drop loot there is no way to get them to spawn again without another starting another game with another Infernal Machine. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

Humans in Diablo Lore
Blizzard's lore team explains what Humans are exactly according to Diablo's lore.

What are they? Are they anything like Nephalems? Any clarification would be appreciated.
I reached out to our lore team for a more precise answer to this question, and the answer has quite a bit of depth! In brief, humans are the descendants of the first nephalem.

Basically, when angels and demons intermingle, their offspring are nephalem – and they are incredibly powerful beings that are long lived, if not eternal, and have the potential to be stronger than either their angelic or demonic heritage. Before and following the Sin War, the nephalem interbred, and their children were also nephalem – and so it continued for several generations.

After discovering Lilith’s betrayal, the Archangel Inarius (who had been Lilith’s lover) tuned the Worldstone to suppress the powers of the nephalem. Because of this, each successive generation of nephalem thereafter became less and less powerful. After enough generations, their magical powers disappeared, and they became weak, mortal creatures that could die easily. Soon they spread to be great in number – these were humans.

Humans still have the latent nephalem potential in them – indeed our hero characters in Diablo III are nephalem – perhaps because of the destruction of the Worldstone years earlier. But most humans are just that – weak mortals.

Here are some excerpts from Diablo III: Book of Cain that might shed a bit more light:

The first generations of nephalem were called the ancients. It is believed that they set out exploring, seeking answers, attempting to understand their curious world, and that they adopted numerous philosophies as they spread across Sanctuary.
...
Lilith, the first mother of the nephalem, was driven into a mad frenzy by the threat of her children’s extinction. She morphed into a far more horrific form than any had ever seen—of tooth and claw, of spike and blade—and hunted down her fellow renegades. She ruthlessly murdered each and every follower of Inarius, leaving only him to discover the carnage she had wrought.

Inarius was horrified by the loss of his comrades and the terrible deed that his lover had committed. Though enraged, he could not bring himself to kill Lilith, but instead banished her from the sanctuary they had made.

Inarius then attuned the Worldstone to cause the powers of the nephalem to diminish over time. He then disappeared—though some say that he still walks amongst us in a form more closely resembling our own.
...
Years became decades, and then centuries, leading to millennia of time elapsed.

Generations of nephalem, even with the remarkably long lives they were said to have possessed, passed away. With each generation, those events which might have been truth turned to legend, eventually settling into myth. The angels and demons faded from consciousness. The nephalem themselves slowly became mere mortals not unlike ourselves.

Humankind began to populate the world. As with its nephalem ancestors, humanity set about building cities of its own and collecting knowledge from the far corners of Sanctuary.

At the present time, we don’t have any details on how/if the bonus to humans may be iterated upon in the upcoming itemization changes.

Lorewise, if something is a clear mystery up until this point, I’m not really at the liberty to divulge any juicy answers, but I’m happy to now and then offer clarification on existing lore if I’m able to. We realize that not everyone cares about game lore, and that’s totally fine. I personally dig Diablo lore, so I am keen to jump in now and then on these types of threads. :) The reality is: posting in a thread like this also in no way slows development on the gameplay aspects of Diablo III we’re currently working on.

As a point of clarification that I feel needs to be said: I’m not a developer, I’m a Community Manager just like it says on the left-hand side there. While the vast, and I mean vast majority of the threads I post in pertain to gameplay in one manner or another, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t loads of other topics being eagerly discussed by players (such as lore), and it certainly doesn’t mean that I’ll be dissuaded by posting in them as well. There’s a lot that goes into Diablo, including everything from gameplay, through to art, lore, sound, cinematics, and more, and they all come together as a whole to create the Diablo series. I simply tend to post in gameplay threads more often because those are commonly the most prevalent discussions taking place here on the forums. But they’re not the only discussions.

As a note that some of your lore aficionados might enjoy: I happen to know that many of your lore-filled discussions are indeed watched by … interested parties … on this end as well. > ;)
