Grimiku gave details today on what the developers think Monster Power is really about. The challenge! If that's not what you think then please share your views in the comments below.

For others, MP1 or MP2 feels right. If you’ve got a lot of supporting gear, maybe MP7 or MP8 is your so-called “sweet spot.”
What we didn’t want to do, however, is make players feel like they absolutely needed to play at the higher MP levels in order to get the best rewards. This is one of reasons that we didn’t add in Achievements for Monster Power, too. We wanted the primary motivation to be the challenge and finding a level that you enjoy. I gather from your post that you feel the bonuses given for challenging yourself aren’t really worth the effort, but my question is what would you change about it? (Keeping in mind that we don’t want to force players into the higher MP levels.)

MP10 Purist
There have been quite a few purists that like to challenge themselves with playing only on Monster Power 10. Make sure to check this topic on the EU forums for their progress and maybe even right your name down as well and show the world what you're made of. Meanwhile this is what Nakatoir has managed to accomplish himself.

Progress generally occurs slowly and I try to out-level everything, but the elite packs usually manage to whittle my health down and I die on either them or the following pack. This is because I also do not allow myself to use health globes. I know, slightly cruel to my hero, but I do love a challenge! >.<
Definitely going to keep on trucking, my next attempt will be on a Wizard... maybe he'll have more luck than a Witch Doctor.

PvP Still in the Works
I know that many of you guys are very eager to get into some PvP action in Diablo III, but there is nothing new I can share with you at this point in time I'm afraid, except that it is still being worked on of course.
It would be my guess that we will post a blog update about PvP in Diablo III when we get closer to release :-) (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)
Listen to the Community!
I think this thread has been an interesting read so far, and although I don't really have much to say about the things posted here, I would like to comment on the following:
Listen to the community
We are listening! We may not be very visible at times, but I can promise you that we are not ignoring you.
We spend a lot of time every day reading threads. We constantly gather player feedback, opinions, concerns, ideas, etc. that we forward to the the Diablo III developers.
The developers are very interested to hear what you guys have to say, and although the development of Diablo III is not a democracy, your feedback does influence their work.
I believe the CMs are listening, the devs just are not doing anything about it
I totally get how frustrating it can be to hunger for new information, and I also know how easy it can be to jump to conclusions when being in that state of mind., but I can assure you that the developers are working hard to make Diablo III a better game... there are many things in the works for future updates, and we will share more detailed information on these things when we are ready to talk about them :-) (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)
Magic Find on Followers
I recently geared my follower for Magic Find since it was not only what I was looking for, but also the easiest to gear up.
Sometimes it’s not just identifying the role you want your follower to fulfill, but also remembering that the measurement of their success will be proportionate to the quality of gear you can give them. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

I guess I never really thought about that. I don't really see how me killing Diablo on Hardcore Inferno helps me or anyone else in real life, though... other than for ego, e-peen, and all that.
Can I get an amen? Well put.
I'd say that right now they're focusing exactly on PvP. Notice how, besides the obvious balance issues with classes and MP levels, there is nothing going on. There's a silence right now. I suspect it might get broken soon. But not for an expansion.
It's likely going to be after Christmas, but in a patch. The expansion will likely end up for early 2014. PvP had been finished for game launch but Blizzard saw that players really wanted PvP to be something more and not just "there", like the original plan was, so they scraped what they had and started anew. Knowing that they wouldn't be able to fit PvP into the game at launch they postponed it for later.
Launch was "poor" as Blizzard has stated themselves and lots of things were not as polished as they wanted it. Players were bored in Inferno and there wasn't a lot of challenge just one month into release. There was a big gap between newbies and pro players where the first had hard times, while the second steamrolled. Lots of scaling of endgame needed to happen. These things had to be corrected before PvP is added in order to balance it out with PvE because otherwise they'd completely forget about PvE while having new balancing issues for PvP and it would be a huge mess.
Enter revamped Legendary equipment, revamped loot/drop system, revamped Magic Find mechanics, Paragon levels, Monster Power and Uber Bosses. All in less than 6 months after launch. The PvE right now is pretty good and there are long term goals to be reached by the huge majority of players. PvE is done at this point, except maybe some issues with crafting, buff UI and of course the never ending act of balancing.
PvP so far has "too little content added" how? The arenas are in an almost finished state, all the combat announcer files and the PvP vendor are already in the game files and all the banner rewards and (supposed) titles are already there. Even the PvP screens are in the files.
My educated guess is that PvP will miss Christmas but will come very early next year (which is close anyway). After that we'll see 1-2 small patches and one major one that include lots of balancing for characters to make them at an adequately equal state for both PvE and PvP and when all that is done the concept for the expansion (which I'm sure has existed while developing vanilla) will begin to come to fruition. I say expansion will be announced Q2/Q3 (calendar) 2013, with 2-3 months of Beta and an early 2014 launch.
How is it imaginary? Because some coders didn't add an achievement to recognize it? Part of getting your money's worth out of the game is milking your entertainment time as much as you can. If you're a big enough fan of the game you'll find new ways to play it.
Defining "awesome" down a few notches aren't we? He's pretty wonky looking, the human body doesn't quite look like that.
