Diablo III Race to the Finish Contests
We have two winners to announce today. zrave has won the Inferno Diablo kill contest and Sadinar has won the Gear Set contest! It's still not to late to try to win. Our Creative Machinima Video Contest is still running. Videos must be submitted before June 15th, 2012

Fast Experience
FluffyLaserTV posted a video today showing yet another spot to level your characters giving you some more options if you're in a hurry. Here you will simply select "The Black Soulstone - Soulstone Chamber" quest and kill Zoltun Kulle a few times. You can check out his thread here. Feel free to share your areas in the comments!

High Treasure Goblin Spawns
Another farming spot has hit a high the last few days. Daish posted a quick video showing off an area that has a rather high chance at the little creatures known as the DiabloWiki.com - Treasure Goblin Treasure Goblins. This area can be found in the Desolate Sands in act 2 after you pass through the aqueducts. You can also get to this point by selecting "Blood and Sand - Zoltun Kulle's Blood" quest and taking the "Ancient Path" Waypoint.

One trick he suggests is haveing multiple players make their own game. Once one player finds a goblin, the other three players join that game. You can find more info in his thread.

Invulnerable Minions and Difficult Affix Packs

When you are first beginning Inferno, you can pick off the easy ones without much challenge, but you may have to skip some of the harder ones. That's okay. As you become more powerful, you can survive better, deal more damage, and take on some of the affix packs you previously chose to avoid. And after gearing up even further, eventually you can take them all on. It won't be a cakewalk, but you won't run in abject terror the next time you see that Invulnerable Minions combo pack sauntering your way (okay...you might run a little). Certain monster affixes will also punish certain skill builds more than others, as many of our affixes do.

We've been watching feedback closely about all the affix types and we've seen a lot of responses to concerns such as "I have no problem with them" or "use skill X instead and you'll be fine" or "I used to have trouble but then I got some X gear and now I'm fine". This is what we intend to happen over time.

Speaking of Invulnerable Minions specifically:

All that said, we definitely are paying attention to your feedback (as mentioned earlier), and we'll make adjustments to monster affixes as we see necessary. We will always intend that some affixes are harder than others, and we'll mostly be making adjustments to ensure some affixes aren't radically out of line.

The Great Security Debate

What is the issue with people getting hacked? Should I stay away from public games for now?
There has been no actual evidence of anyone's account being at risk simply as a result of playing with others. In fact, virtually all of the theories being spread around as to how account compromises are happening through multiplayer games aren't even possible under Diablo III's setup.

cool thank you for clearing that up. All these posts on hacking can cause rumors fast.
I know. And you're welcome. Happy slaying! May fortune smile upon you. :)

And you'd know that, because you're a community manager.
After this day I'm not sure if that's meant in earnest, or as a slight against me. Either way, I'll admit I'm not that technically savvy. But the folks at Blizzard responsible for network security and the like are. And I make sure to read/listen closely whenever they share information about our systems. ;)

Not reassuring at all. I'm still quite reluctant to join public games. I only did it once, but that was before the hacking frenzies started and I was only a noob character.
That sincerely saddens me, not just as an employee, but as a human being. I don't have all of the details in front of me at this moment so I won't make generalizations about how and why group play doesn't inherently make you less secure. But again, I've read detailed reports about the steps several talented and highly capable employees from numerous departments at Blizzard have taken to verify player account information has remained secure within our system.

There aren't a lot of details we can reasonably provide about our infrastructure and programming. That said, at some level we shouldn't have to. We have every obligation to protect your personal information. And, if that information were ever to become compromised, we'd have every obligation to let you know about it right away. It's why we keep saying account security is important to us. It's about much more than PR. It's about ethics, standards, and even legalities.

I say it saddens me personally because I want you to enjoy the game I'm enjoying. I know that if you're conscientious about system and account security -- and especially if you attach an authenticator to your account -- you should have nothing to worry about! You shouldn't hesitate to play with any of the millions of other people logged in right now and doing JUST THAT. :)

Finally, I know I keep linking to this stuff, but it's not to be annoying. This is an invaluable resource:http://us.battle.net/en/security/. Please read through it.

To those of you reading this thread, now seems like a good time to call things as they are. You just read my post on the state of things as we've reported. I'm speaking on behalf of Blizzard, sure, but they're my words.

Below is the reverse side of the coin because, if you ultimately believe there's been a breach on our end, then by proxy you share a startlingly similar point-of-view as this poster (even if perhaps you wouldn't phrase it in such a derogatory way).

Its funny, more and more hacked accounts are popping up on these forums. And the same people are jumping in them saying "its a keylogger" "blizzard!! NEVAH!"
wake up, if blizzard said your mom was a censored, would you believe it? Thats basically what half of you censored are doing. Just because blizzard says "not happening, not possible" doesnt make it true.
They dont have to tell you jack. Why? because these hackers aren't getting personal information. They are stealing your in gam stuff. I dont care what any blue font person has to say to deny it. It's happening.

You can judge right from wrong for yourself.

The way I see it, it's hardly worth continuing to try to contend with this sort of argument in any meaningful or constructive way. This stuff doesn't belong on the forums anymore and I'll do what I can to keep it off.

What I'd like to know is why the same mule accounts keep appearing over and over.
Oh and one is ONLINE RIGHT NOW! On a level 1 monk which has shown up in screen shots in this forum. The account is vipcat and he's been stealing people's stuff for days now.
Even if the account was originally a victim, lock it and make the owner verify his identity before unlocking it. Do something. He has to have absurd amounts of gold which are just fueling the gold spammers.

BattleTags aren't unique and they're often using the same account name. We've verified this.

Blue Posts
A lot of blue posts today. Make sure to check out the first few as there was some good information today.

Our internal patch schedules are relatively rough. We don't give out times because, as you might imagine, estimates sometimes evolve into gospel. Rather than committing to a time, I'd prefer to at least communicate our intentions to commit to a design change. :)

Any chance you plan on giving people the option to permanent delete or atleast log out of the annoying, item spam selling, general chat we have to look at when we log in?
Yes, I posted about this yesterday but it probably got buried. In a future patch we'll be adding in the functionality for your chat settings to be saved. This means you won't automatically join General chat when entering a game if you left the channel in your last game.

I don't understand how blue's have time to respond to posts about the size of chat text, but they can't update us on or even ACKNOWLEDGE the fact that the auction house is unusable for so many people because of this bug. " STASH LIMIT Only 0 items are allowed in your stash at one time. Please send items to your shared stash and try again.
Hey there, friend. If you've noticed there are quite a few threads being created everyday. Instead of following us around and contributing nothing relevant to the topic of a thread to tell us where we should be posting, you should let conversations flow and gain traction on their own merit.

If we have answers to provide about a particular situation, we will. Until then you're not helping anyone by telling me how I shouldbe spending my time. Thanks!

Of all the things in this game that need a fix why does the chat window keep getting preference? I would like a sincere answer as I am asking a sincere question.
Read my previous post. If you think the list of things we'd like to address is linear and each item takes an equivalent amount of time to implement, you think incorrectly.

We have a list of things we'd like to do. And each item on that list has an estimate of the resources necessary to address it, a severity/urgency label, as well as a milestone for which update it should be included in. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

Patches, Hotfixes, and "Scheduled" Maintenance
Like did someone forget to change the tooltips? If the changes had already been made, please tell me (I really want to know) what possible reason there could be for not just changing the tooltips in the patch that made the changes.
Tooltips can't be changed through hotfixes.

Like did someone forget to change the tooltips? If the changes had already been made, please tell me (I really want to know) what possible reason there could be for not just changing the tooltips in the patch that made the changes
Building patches requires time. All changes made in a patch must be tested, verified, localized, and then implemented. For every patch cycle, there is a cut-off point after which no further changes can be made.

As for your question, though, we made two changes to Mantra of Healing in patch 1.0.2 which were not reflected immediately in the tooltip. These changes were added late in the patch cycle and we simply did not have time to test, verify, localize (this is an important one), and implement the tooltip updates in time for patch 1.0.2. We still felt that the change was important to make, so we went forward with it instead of pushing it to a later patch. As a result, we made the necessary changes to its tooltip in patch 1.0.2a -- when the tooltip updates for all of the other recent hotfixes also went in.

Obviously, it's not an ideal situation and, whenever possible, we will implement skill changes and tooltip updates at the same time. Unfortunately, this is not always an option, and we'll make sure to call out if a tooltip hasn't been updated in the official patch notes.

Hope that helps provide a bit more clarity, in addition to the response Bashiok provided. :)

That is mostly accurate and well said, and I appreciate your candor. However this does not change how Blizzard took their servers down this afternoon with a 15 minute warning for a client-side patch that was non-critical. Then lacked the class to be forthright about the matter and tried to play it off as scheduled maintenance.
That is my issue with what happened today. I would hope that the majority of players would feel a bit irked over the way it was handled.
/agree

Today's maintenance was actually scheduled for later in the afternoon. It's rare that maintenance periods which include a patch are not pre-determined. The original time was scheduled to allow the patch to be launched in all of our regions simultaneously during our lowest global concurrency.

Unfortunately, due to a technical requirement, we needed to start maintenance significantly earlier in the day (at 11:00 am) and move away from a global launch, but we did not have much notice or time in which to communicate that to the public. This is not typical for these kind of deployments.

I'm going to be candid and say that it was inappropriate for us to continue to refer to today's maintenance as "scheduled" after that point, even though from an internal perspective it was. From the community's perspective, there was nothing scheduled about it. You weren't provided much warning, and the maintenance occurred outside of its normal "Tuesday morning" window.

There's nothing we can do to take back those communication mistakes. But, going forward, our goal is to provide as much advance notice as possible regarding downtime, both in the Breaking News window and here on the forums. If we are unable to provide advance notice, we will not make the same error in judgment and call such maintenances "scheduled." We'll include as many details as possible, and patch notes ahead of time, if applicable.

In truth, this kind of feedback is incredibly helpful, as it tells us (quite bluntly) where we need to improve. I can't promise that each and every point of feedback will be addressed immediately or can be addressed, but I can assure you that we've learned a lot today and have already made adjustments to our communication plans for future service updates.

This does not address how the patch was handled.
Correct. It did, however, address the question which was quoted.
See above for your inquiry

more info on when 1.0.3 hits? Game feels broken atm. I just want to see the game get fixed as soon as possible. A wild guess in the dark?
The date is still undetermined at this point. We do have another fast patch scheduled to come out before 1.0.3 launches, though.

Lylirra, is the 8 hour weekly maintenance something we'll have to expect with D3? I know it's early days and there's obviously a few teething problems, but I am concerned about this as it falls prime time in Australia.
That's certainly not our long-term goal for Diablo III. Like you said, though, there are still improvements we want to make to the game service, and we may need to take advantage of weekly maintenance (at least occasionally) to implement performance and content updates.

Hi, can you please post maintenance date and times on the Diablo launcher either under the News or Community headlines? Because currently it is only showing news from over a week ago as shown below. Thank you
That information will actually be posted in the Breaking News window, on the right-hand side of the login screen.
As for those news items, though...they are now diamonds. And by diamonds, I mean "updated." ;)

AH and Commodities
We're continuing to work on bringing commodity trading via the auction house back online, but we don't currently have an ETA to provide.

Thank you. How about why did they take it down in the first place ?
It was taken offline for performance and stability reasons. The sheer amount of commodity trading was further impacting general item sales. We've been working on some optimizations for the auction house so that it may better handle the number of listings and transactions taking place. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

Like World of Warcraft
I sympathize with the situation, difficulty, item concerns, enemy affix combinations, etc. and they are all things we're looking at and are working to address (we absolutely are) but... what part of what you described is like World of Warcraft?

It sounds quite a bit like Diablo II, in which immune mobs would render D2 characters absolutely useless as their permanent build choices had no ability to overcome them. As opposed to Invulnerable in Diablo III which do have leeway to overcome them through gear, strategy, and skill.

"permanent build" is what made D2 replayable.
It made you level new characters, which certainly makes you spend a lot of time just to try out new skills. I wouldn't call having to spend time to try a new skill replayability, I'd probably call it a requirement of time investment.

To be fair, Invulnerable Minions packs are a huuuuge pain in the !@# to fight.
Absolutely. I would not dare argue otherwise. :)

He was just calling the game like WoW, not that specific scenario. The brightness, itemization, and streamlined...everything, scream WoW to most people.
Please Bash, are Legendaries getting buffed affixes/new ones? Or are they being buffed stat/dps wise?

Haha, I was going to say, if it was like WoW I think people wouldn't be so confused about Legendaries. :)
Are you asking in addition to what we've already stated on the front page?http://us.battle.net...-5_28_2012#blog (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

Blacksmith Changes
We do not have a precise time frame to offer you on when the various changes outlined in the Game Design Update will be available. But rest assured, we are doing our best to prioritize these issues alongside a number of other bug fixes and prominent issues. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

Save Chat Options
Your chat settings will be saved in a future update so that you don't have to leave General chat each time you fire up a new game. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

Attack Speed
There are a number of bugs with Attack Speed at the moment, the most common offender being that on some set/Legendary items it just doesn't work at all. It's a known issue and something we'll be fixing in a future patch.

I recommend keeping an eye on the Known Issues sticky in the bug report forum for this and similar "known issues". (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

Error 315300
We already have an open discussion about error 37, please do not create additional topics on this:http://eu.battle.net...opic/4211047233

In regards to the error 315300, be sure that you are not copy-pasting your password into the password field as this will not enter it correctly. You must manually type out your password to not receive this error. If you are manually typing your password and are sure that it is correct then try following the steps found here: http://eu.battle.net...le/error-315300 (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

Global Play
So basically they acknowledge that anyone using cross-play will NOT be able to play for about 24h each week and they have no plan to do anything about it.
There actually is nothing we can do about this, unless we patch all regions at exactly the same time - which would be in prime time for some regions and also have the negative effect of not being able to play in a different region (that has not patched yet) while your own region is offline. The best solution is to have your client and installer be from your "home" region - so you don't patch until your home region (as you are posting on European boards this will likely be Europe) has the patch. That way you avoid being locked out where you play most of the time.

The main issue at the moment is, that many players use the enUS installer instead of the enGB one, which means that you are downloading the patch when US is being patched and not waiting until Europe is getting the patch. Once this is sorted out and patching is less frequent the issues should be minimal. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

Sophisticated Mobs
I don’t doubt that somewhere on Sanctuary there must be a rare and dignified creature that would find an insightful conversation appealing, as opposed to a simple show of raw, brutal strength.
I can distinctly imagine a Fallen Shaman adjusting his monocle and sipping tea while he discusses the finer points of the arcane arts with a wizard. However, I can just as easily envision the look of confusion on that same Fallen’s face if he were to politely ask a battle-hungry barbarian to “Stay awhile and... chat.” ;)

Perhaps they are wise to act first and ask questions of dead heroes later?

I tried talking with a Zarhym once. But he just ate me.
I never stepped in Whimsyshire again.
