Servers Go Live At 00:01 CEST for the European Region
This is rather big news! There's also some good info for other midnight launch events around the EU. Though this blog post has had its time changed twice, it looks like this is the final time!

Each event will have its own activities, giveaways, and contests, so see the press release for further details and be sure to check the launch event site for more info on the one nearest you.
Whether you’re attending a launch event, grabbing the game at a local store, or waiting patiently at home for your digital version to unlock, you’ll want to be ready to jump in right when the servers open. For the European region, the game servers will go live at 00:01 CEST on May 15. As a reminder to our Russian players, the Russian-language version of the game will be available digitally and at retail starting June 7.
Don’t forget to create your BattleTag — it's important to do so now if you haven't already, as it’s REQUIRED TO PLAY DIABLO III. Also note that if you’d like to receive a digital copy of Diablo III free, there are still a few days left to sign up for the World of Warcraft Annual Pass.
We hope to see you at one of our Diablo III launch events and we look forward to seeing you in-game on May 15!

That seemed to imply that you could pre-download / pre-install, but Bash's response to you couldn't have been clearer that's not the case.
Thanks again!
Per both quotes, the digital copy can be installed and ready to go the second it's live in our region, which is 12:01 PDT
You CAN pre-download / pre-install. Bash's reply has nothing to do with this, he is simply talking about when we can log in.
Which was the main point of this conversation,
Also, according to the post I linked (not the tweet), it will still be encrypted until it is unlocked. Which is what I was referring to in that case.
But the point still stands you can not get onto the EU servers until you have the game activated, which was the point.
edit: last post in this thread http://www.diablofan...to-pre-install/
Encryption (from pre-download) will take same time as an install. Which wont happen until game unlocks
EDIT:
From bashiok "Unlock" then install.

The stop confusing the issue by talking about pre-installing the digital copy for the sole purpose of making a physical install faster. That has nothing to do with anything he asked and only confused the issue (per his post I quoted). There is no reason to link to Bash here http://www.diablofans.com/blizz-tracker/topic/218979-any-way-for-ce-buyers-to-pre-install/ as it has NOTHING to do with playing the digital copy at 12:01 AM PDT.
The only link we need is http://www.diablofans.com/blizz-tracker/topic/218956-pre-purchase/

Just like I said, Just how meant it in the post I linked
Edited bad wordeg
This is also not my first digital preorder, I know how they work with blizzard ^_~ and I know what he meant in the post you're linking "As soon as possible" meaning you don't have to donwload the full thing.
yes
Um no. And what? I get that you're mad you don't get to play at midnight but there's no logic in your release claims. As much as I'd love it, they'd never let PST play at like 9PM or whatever time it would be for EST midnight.
I figured it might be easier on the servers if they just let each time zone in the US log in starting at their respective midnight but then people would probably just VPN to another time zone.
Blizzard has never had a successful (meaning no massive downtime issues) launch for the online component of a new game (i.e. expansions do not count since they are just glorified patches -- unless you can play the game standalone, but even then the server infrastructure has already been improved for the game since it's original release). Hopefully the OB stress test will change that for the first time, but I'm fully expecting to be frustrated for an hour (12-1) then just going to bed.
Edited: 3:01 a.m. was correct. Nevermind.
keep in mind, Open beta was on live servers. so the info they got from that had to have helped them x10 fold. I hope thats enough for a smooth release, but still.. one can cross fingers =P
And with EU going first, any fix they do there, can be ready to go for the US
uhh.. 3:01 am
Nevermind, you're right. Edited original post. I'm tired.
