After finishing The Fallen Star quest, you will meet up with Leah. You tell Leah that we need to save her Uncle, Deckard Cain, because he is the only one who would know about the fallen star that hit the Tristram Cathedral. She knows that he is somewhere in the depths of the Tristram Cathedral but that the guards had locked the way. However, they had made their way back to Adria's hut and they would be able get the key from there. This begins your new quest through Sanctuary.
After making your way back through Old Tristram and finding Adria's hut, you and Leah descend into the hidden cellar. It is during this path that you find out that Adria is actually Leah's birth mother. Along with this little tidbit we also find out that her father was a great warrior who disappeared when Tristram fell. While not directly stating so, it is assumed that Aidan, the newly named warrior hero from Diablo I, is her father but that has not be proven yet in the beta.
After going down, you will fight Captain Daltyn, a rare zombie who was once in charge of watching of New Tristram. After defeating him, you leave Leah in the cellar so she can study Adria's secrets. During patch 4 of the beta, this is when you received the Cauldron of Jordan but they have changed when you get this item in patch 5. Meanwhile, you are sent on your way to continue finding Deckard Cain. You follow the path out of Adria's hut to Tristram Cathedral. Your character bravely jumps down the crater and into the first level of the Tristram Cathedral, your first real experience in a randomized dungeon.
After hacking and slashing your way through the first level, you find Leoric's Passage. A non-randomized area, this is where you get your first glimpse of the infamous Deckard Cain. Not only do you get your first look at him but you also see the first appearance of the Skeleton King since Diablo I. While a nice cut-scene occurs, it is abruptly ended with the Skeleton King attempting to kill Deckard Cain. You obviously come to his aid and slaughter the skeletons and their leader, saving his life.
After rescuing Deckard Cain, you tell him that you need answers from him on what is going. He leads you back to New Tristram after hearing that Leah is still ok. Once back in town, you talk to Leah and Deckard about the Fallen Star. He tells you that he is not exactly sure what it is but it is a sign of the end of things to come. While Leah discourages the idea and tells her Uncle to stop telling stories. This concludes the end of The Legacy of Cain.
Areas:
The Legacy of Cain has you going through a myriad of different locations to complete this quest.
Old Ruins - This is where we last left our Hero. You do not spend much time here. Just used to get you back to where you were from New Tristram.
Old Tristram Road - Also just a small section. You take this little path to get Adria's hut.
Adria's Hut/The Hidden Cellar - This first real new area of the quest, you follow Leah to Adria's Hut just outside of Old Tristram. There, she finds a hidden passage into the cellar. Below, you find where Adria did her real witching.
Cathedral - After leaving Leah, you make your way through the short path to Tristram Cathedral. A bit broken-down in the last twenty years, you brave your way, once again, into the depths of this cursed Cathedral.
Cathedral Level 1 - On your way to find Deckard Cain, you venture your way through the first real dungeon of the game. Randomized, the path to the next section will change every time you play.
Leoric's Passage - A small section of the dungeon, the set map is the setting for the first encounter with the ghost of King Leoric. You find him trying to kill Deckard as the source of the Fallen Star has awaken him.
Cathedral Garden - Just on the side of the Cathedral, there is a waypoint to get you back to New Tristram to conclude the quest.

Monsters:
Captain Daltyn is a unique monster that you will run into when searching Adria's Hut. Formally a Captain who helped save New Tristram from the newly impending infestation, the man fell to the demons as well. You must finally put him to rest and save Leah. Risen and Walking Corpse liter most of the outside areas in this quest chain. Nothing special than zombies. Some will become the torsos after killing them creating a second enemy to kill. One of the greatest new challenges, especially for melee oriented classes is the introduction of the Grotesque. A fat man sewn back together, he explodes after being killed. This creates a splash damage as well as releasing three Corpse Worms, creating another fight that quickly surrounds your character. Once venturing into Sanctuary, you will find yourself fighting of dozens of Carrion Bats. Not much of a challenge but a nice break from the zombies. When you finally make your way to Deckard Cain, you have to save him from some Royal Henchmen. Some risen skeletons, they attack through melee means. After killing a few, the unique Head Cleaver presents a bigger and stronger melee challenge. That rounds up the monsters that you will fight through this quest.
