Our logo is amazing and one that we have used for years. Jetrall outdid himself when he made this for the site. We have used it for just about everything that we put our name on and it has become a symbol of DiabloFans. However, just like everything in life, time has passed and change is needed. While we all love our logo, it has unfortunately become outdated. With Diablo III just on the horizon, our beloved Lord of Terror no longer resembles this face that we have come to love and fear. With Diablo's new appearance, we are looking to change ours as well. DiabloFans is looking to update our logo.
Where do you come in? Well, we are asking the community to come up with our new logo. Something that screams both Diablo III and DiabloFans. Whether you just update the look of Diablo or make something completely new, we are open to any and all ideas.
The Rules:
1. Members are allowed to enter as many submissions as they want.
2. The logo must be unique, original and reflect both Diablo III and DiabloFans.
3. The image size should be a minimum of 450 x 200 pixels in width and height. (Please also keep a file with as many layers as you used for future editing)
4. Entries should be submitted in the official submission thread.
5. Entries will be accepted until October 31, 2011.
6. Once all entries are submitted, the DiabloFans staff will vote on a winner for the new logo.
The Prize:
The prize is simple. Your art will be represented on DiabloFans as well as trademark our site on any other ventures made by DiabloFans. The winner will also receive a custom user title reflecting their contribution.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask in this thread. All submissions should be made in the submission thread.
If you are planning on trying to match the current font, it is a mixture of Abaddon and Blade 2 with some custom edits to the lettering.
For inspiration, here are a few pictures of the new Lord of Terror for referencing.

How in the world do you figure that? We've said exactly what will come of this competition. Also you're speaking to a art student. Umpa.
I'm glad you feel this way. 1 more person I do not have to compete with. I know quite a bit about what is taught about the industry. I've made it a very serious point to do so.
Again, this is a fan site, started by fans, ran by fans, and made for fans. We're all in the same boat here. the original icon was also made by a fellow fan and friend. We all work together to make this place great because we are HUGE fans.
You've speculated that it may or may not be a good opportunity for a designer.
Google "spec work" and see what you can learn about it, and how it's one of the largest issues facing the design industry today.
I am a graphic design student with some experience, and at the first glance I knew I would participate for free. But it is true that spec work is quite a big issue as I have been warned in some classes I have. I know the issue, I am preoccupied, but I just don't feel like complaining about this. Though, it would be wonderful if the DF admin would find some other reward than "having the chance to be on our website", even if it's not the biggest prize ever. Just to give us support in this issue.
That's my point of view.
It's not that we don't want to pay anyone or reward them it's just that payment isn't a option we all basically work for free, money isn't an option. IF we can get some fan beta invites I'm almost certain (I haven't cleared this with the other staff but it seems 100% reasonable) that the winner will receive a beta invite if we receive the fan ones. That's a very unknown subject right now though so we don't want to promise anything we can't come through with.
Again it's not that we don't want to reward you guys in one way or another, and if you'd rather not participate for whatever reason your professors or a site told you that's fine we have plenty of people willing. We're not really asking for free handouts, we have capable graphic artists at our disposal, we just thought this would be a fun opportunity to get the community involved and have some fun.
I hope this clears some things up. If you feel it's in your best interest for whatever reason not to do it, that's fine. I know Umpa and a couple other artists want to do it to help showcase their work to Blizzard, to support the site, and just for fun.
Payment is just not an option right now, and I'm sorry if you all feel cheated by this in some way.
I'm totally OK with doing something for free as it is simply for fun, that's why I didn't felt like complaining: I understand the spec work issue, but I don't think we're totally in the right context to categorize this contest into that type of work.
This is why I will participate with fun and eager to see other professional's work, that I do hope for.
Thanks for making things clearer
As for better prizes, we would all love to be able to give something in return for your hard work. However, this just is not possible. Like Daemaro said, the staff here on DFans "work" countless hours on the site, with little to no compensation, making the place an awesome community and they do it all for the love of Diablo and the community. We are hoping there are others out there as well who would not might spending some of their time to make something they are proud of and see it displayed. IF, and this is a big IF, we are able to get our hands on something to give as a prize like a beta key, you bet we will add it to the prize. But again, we cannot guarantee anything right now and therefore will not offer it as a "possible" prize as many people would be upset if we never came through with it.
So please enter if you want to have some fun and would like to contribute to the community in this way.
I like how you try to keep it simple, but a couple of things I think need to be improved, firstly, with the white background it looks like Diablo is wearing a tiara as the 3 candles get lost. Also, again with the white background, it looks too obvious that the head has an outline that sticks out, maybe you could add a glow or shadow behind and around the head to help make it blend in more.
Another thing that I think isn't quite working is the word fans is quite small and if the logo is used with a small resolution it could become unreadable. So I would suggest making that a bit larger.
But overall, I think you're on the right track.

timbobaskins p2 post #21 - This looks awesome, but he just needs a more detailed (not so pixelated) head and make the text more curvy or more diablo-y or something like that. Love the eyes thou. Then that's the winner for me.
the one positive thing i see here is how eager the readers are here to get involved. that's pretty cool. i would just say keep pumping out ideas! some of these have potential.
