The third F&F Beta patch has just gone live and it re-introduced the Public Game system as well as helping a heads up on the upcoming Auction House!

Official Blizzard Quote:

Diablo III Beta Patch 3 – v.0.3.0.7338

General

Public Games are once again available to players. To help us test this automated matchmaking feature, click on "Campaign" and then select "Public Games."The number of characters playing the selected public quest will now display in the Public Games menu.

The Diablo III Auction House is coming soon!
- During the beta launch of this system, the following features will be enabled:Gold-based equipment exchange
- Bid, auto-bid, and buyout functionality
- Slot-based search filters
- Toast notifications to track auction progress
- The ability to put items up for auction directly from the shared stash

If anything, I think this tells us that the closed beta will start next week at the earliest. This is just my opinion, though.

Yeah I think your opinion is highly wrong in this case.

This bug was the last thing (that we) knew that was keeping them from closed beta. It will be tonight or tomorrow hands down.

I think they will see how the public games service holds up, many only for a few hours, or a day or two and if it's working well they will start sending out invites. So I'm on the optimist side and hopefully we'll see it this week. =D

Seems like a good time to start the closed beta. Public games not working was pretty much the biggest bug they had as far as gameplay.

The point of opening match-making in public games is for the mass.. and i'm sure f&f isn't large enough to test out that. O yea yea!!! INCOMING BETA!!! hopefully tonight!!

I mean, don't get me wrong. The beta is all nice and all, but the odds of me actually getting in is like 0.00001% so I'm not all that excited after all... it's a sad night.

You don't think they want to test the auction house with a smaller sample size (F&F) before a huge group of beta testers? Monday for closed beta.

I have my fingers crossed, but I probably shouldn't. My heart is saying "They'll pick you! You have a very oddball video card that they'll need to test". My brain is saying "You idiot, they'll never pick you! You don't have a WoW account, so you don't deserve it."

It's good to see they are working hard.

If public games bugs are fixed then closed beta shouldn't be too far away.

Looking at the bugs seems like the game is more or less ready (just some minor detail) while connections/servers is (as expected) the real deal right now.

Closed beta will stress the infrastracture even more (AH in primis) and will also allow Blizzard to try out many different kinds of hardware, which should let them refine the game even more and define system requirements.

After that.....
