We're Off to See the Beta

Earlier today I received an invitation to go to Blizzard HQ, at the end of July (27th to be exact), for a world first look at the Diablo 3 Beta (which means Beta won't be out before this event), as well as some new feature reveals, including information on Battle.net 2.0. In addition to these reveals and hands on play, we'll be able to sit in a fansite interview with a few developers, so if anyone has any questions, feel free to let me know in this post and I'll ask what I can! The event itself will be under NDA until August 1st, but I'll keep you all in the loop.

Now for some speculation... Keep in mind, there is still no release date, this could potentially be pretty big. As we know, they are shooting for the Beta to be released in Q3 and they want to have all system and game information revealed prior to that happening. With this event coming up, we will then be able to spill all the beans about the Beta, which could mean it could very well start very shortly after this event. Not only that, but depending on how long the Beta lasts, could mean that we may still potentially have a 2011 release date.

tl;dr Sign of the Beta.

It also looks like Force also received an invitation, so possibly expect some kind of DiabloCastish thing from HQ! :). Here's a little video announcement for those of you that just want some other cool stuff to listen to.

You're forgetting that this site as well as curse.com will cover this. It's a lot bigger than you may think.

I kinda felt it would be August since there's no system revealed yet (after runestone that is) and it's almost July. All I can say is lucky bastards! =D Not only you guys get to play beta, you get to see blizzard HQ once again. Oh I wish the blizzard HQ was done when I beta tested diablo 2.

I think what he means is other types of PVP modes instead of just deathmatch. for example capture the flag, territory control, protect the VIP etc..

Clan Tags? Example: [D3Fans]polarducky
How is Trading gonna work?
Have some kind of currency for D3 instead of using 3rd party(D2jsp)?
Anything different from SP and MP in general of gameplay?

Congratulation and good luck! I hope you look into beta very well... and Hope you find some kind of bug or something so they can fix before beta comes!

Post up your questions here if you haven't already.

This is awesome news. So we're likely looking at a mid august beta in my opinion. Showing it off to the press July 27th, we'll get that news August 1st. Then they are gonna want to let people play it ASAP after that since a lot of info will come from the press reveal.

what is the point of a 4 day long NDA??? Why not just give us all the info as it comes. The only reason i could see a NDA being used is if beta was going to come out on Aug 1st, so they would want to wait for all the info on the game be released along with it. Otherwise NDA is pointless.

I'm not sure I can make it a whole month Want!!!

I doubt the beta will release on the first, my guess is that they want to be fair to everyone who might take longer to commute back home (I think someone mentioned that). Plus, then everyone can organize the info and release it in a pretty format, instead of just dumping everything they saw into a blob and posting it as fast as possible

Well the Heart of the Swarm preview had a NDA for a week or so, I believe. So don't expect anything big.

Well congrats! Have fun! I have 1 question/idea for you ask/tell the devs. Any chance we could get a cool co-op gameplay type like castle defense? Where we could have a king or some sort of VIP and we have to protect the castle from being over run by demons? And have it layered so once the monsters breach the first section of the wall you fall back to the next section kinda thing? Just an idea, see what they think.

NDA = Non-Disclosure Act. Essentially, that cannot share any information that gain from being there or playing the beta.
