New Forum Feature: Experience the Experience

As many of you may have noticed, we've been doing some tests with a new vBulletin Mod that is now complete. What this brings us is an award/trophy type system. The user with the highest amount of points per section, holds that award. If the user should be beaten out by someone else, the award is immediately transferred to the new user. There are various ways to earn points, things like making posts/threads, voting in polls, making calendar events, every little thing you do around here can earn you some points: the more active you are, the more points you can earn.

When clicking on a username in their postbit, it contains some general information about their level and experience points. To see a breakdown of that user's points you can visit their profile and click on the "Experience" tab.

Furthermore, you can go to the "Community" or "Quicklinks" navbar items to find the Member List sorted by highest level.

As of right now, Seth holds the Most Popular, Community, Blog, and Calendar awards. Elfen Lied holds the Posting award, ScyberDragon holds the Activity award, and Nektu holds the Frequent Poster award. I think we can all agree, Seth is the man to beat. More awards, based on other categories, will be coming in the future, so be on the lookout.

I don't see what all the fuss is about when it comes to posting. I think that every post you make must be relevant and have meaning... if you're rushed in a spamming competition with other people it will only contribute in creating a global chaotic forum. So, that being said, if you have 1,500 posts but only 200 really bring anything new or interesting or at least thoughtful... you're as bad as anyone having 200-300 active posts. Therefore the system is obsolete and it may be a good way to encorage people to contribute in the forum's discutions, but it's a bad way to promote a healthy, interesting community. I'm not saying that Dfans is a bad/uninteresting place, I'm just saying that the whole ranking system is really there to satisfy those who need attention and nothing else. Seriously, I was fine with the old system of titles... now this is just ... too much =-/. Anyway, I'm pretty tired right now so might as well say anything that passes throught my mind, I might change sides tomorow, who knows?

I thought of this, but very quickly dismissed it. If people want to just post to post now, then they were doing it before. Prior to this system, there was a Post Count (and post rank) system and a Rep system. Meaning the only way to "level up", so to speak, was to get a higher post level.

Why did i lose 90 experience points? Is it because im inactive?

There were various adjustments made to the default settings of the Experience mod when they installed it, to customize it to our forum, which dropped everyone's points a bit.
And if you had any posts in the former Ultimate Random Chat Thread, you lost the points for those posts when it was deleted (see here for an explanation of "The URT Happening"), which also affected many users.

I just found something... odd...

in my "points for votes" on the misc tab, I have 13 points, though the factor for this category is x10... how's that possible??

Weird, in your profile it shows you have 97 points for Thread Votes and 13 points for Blog Posts.

yeah... I see this in the "earn points" part... the 97 is another example, the factor is 10 but I have 97

both are in the "points for votes" category, the 97 in the points for threads tab and the 13 in the "points for votes" in points for misc tab....

I think the factor written there is wrong... I mean, 10 points for giving or reciving one vote?? is like too much... maybe instead of 10 is 1 and that 0 ninja'd you

That would be kind of cool. To create actual characters with strengths. Casters, melee. It would be fun to get to level something up with our levels.

I chose +10 strength. I am a beast.
