What Would Make PvP Better?
The most notable change in this area from Diablo I to its predecessor was the change from the persistent friendly fire of Diablo I, where any projectile could hurt your comrades or simply other players in the game, to the system of Diablo II, which required players to declare hostility against other players. With this came even further changes as the game grew older, including patching of some side affects that were not fully handled in the initial release of Diablo II. This included things like magical projectiles being cast before a player clicks the hostility button and then instantly killing other players unknowingly. Other restrictions included restricted access to Town Portals and Way Points.
Other issues which were still never addressed are some continuing aspects of griefing, which is often exploited by more powerful characters on the weak, the spamming of health, mana, and rejuvenation potions during duels, and the heavily controversial gift of Teleportation, an original skill of the Sorceress, which was allowed to be used with any character until the introduction of the Enigma runeword, which was introduced in patch 1.10.
What needs to be better with Diablo III's PvP system? What was bad about it in previous games? What new mechanics should be introduced to it to make it a more viable time-consumer in the end-game?
It sounds like the poll question was, 'what aspects of D3 are you most excited about?' The other 97% of those polled who didn't mention pvp don't necessarily hate or even feel indifferent to pvp. Maybe they even like pvp, they're just not as excited about it at this point as they are about some of the other features of D3.
Imagine, people were filling out this poll after playing the demo. Correct me if I'm wrong but pvp wasn't even part of the demo. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people who were polled were mostly excited about features present in the demo that they liked. If I played the demo and I liked the way quests were handled, I would've used the poll as an opportunity to tell them so. Same thing goes for the graphics, character classes, monsters, map layout, orb things instead of the potions, whatever. There are already LOTS of features of D3 to be excited about!
My point is that if an exciting new pvp system was also part of the demo, then certainly more players would have been excited about pvp in D3, and that would have been reflected in the polls.
At any rate, you can't take this data and come to the conclusion that people hate pvp, or even that they don't want it. Thats obviously not true, and if you read the full quote, thats obviously not the conclusion that blizzard is drawing, either. The quote goes on to say:
Quote:
What we?d rather do is create a PVP game that?s more inclusive of a larger audience. We want something that?s a great PVP game that a lot of people in our audience can really enjoy.
Clearly blizzard intends to include pvp in D3. There is literally an unlimited number of ways to introduce pvp to a game without using D2s hostility system. There are plenty of games aside from D2 that have pvp, use those as a reference.
This is what I was trying to get to. Players who like to go around and just harass people should not be welcome in games. Even so, they do have just as much right to play as the rest of us do. I will quote myself to clarify:
"So, IMHO, I do believe that the issue of RANDOM UNNECESSARY HOSTILITY is the problem. NOT the PvP itself. In reality, there are only rules to war that men place on it. War itself has no rules, is not fair, nor expected in some issues. Ask Kuwait in 1990. I notice that vladdracul was banned. By the way he was badmouthing people, if that is one of best examples for support of RANDOM PK'ing, then it is also one of the best examples to set limits and protections for those who don't want malicious players PvP'ing."
Well Id like to know what else there is to hitting 99 then lol.....seriously how do you do it? Cuz all I have done is tele to baal/chaos and spam the shit outta hammers or whatever other skill I use(blizz, orb, nado, etc...) Id really like you to tell me what else there is to it cuz I cant see it lol
Yes it is extremely important!!! just look at a games list on bnet. Its almost all either bots doing baal, trade game, or dueling games....thats it. PVP is a big part of why diablo 2 is still so popular and fun as hell. If its not your thing you may not have payed attention to it while you played but most players seem to really enjoy
However, he was WAY into PvP and I was way into party quests.
I tried to PvP occasionally, but I didn't really find it fun, especially after I got dominated by a hammerdin.
If it were such that (As an example) enigma hammerdins (amongst other uber-leet characters) did not exist (SORRY GUYZ) in D3, then PvP would def. sound good to me.
I don't know which one you're talking about but a lot of the bans were massive trolling, temp bans, the only permanent ones was for people creating multiple accounts.
I'd be in full rights to make you the next for discussion of moderation in a public forum, it's also offtopic. Instead though I'll just explain this here so others can read it.
It was people evading a ONE day ban by making new accounts.
Do NOT respond to this in this thread, if you wish to talk to me about it do it via PM.

Yes, I know. I read the quote, too. In D3 you won't be able to simply declare hostility to another player and then immediately attack that player without their consent. That's not the same thing as not having pvp...
Whether the poll asked what feature you are excited about, what aspect you are interested in, or what facet of D3 you care about doesn't really make a difference... In fact I think using any combination of these words would be asking pretty much the same question...
The point is that just because pvp is not the TOP priority for 97% of the people who took the poll, that doesn't mean its not a priority for them at all. Certainly more than 3% of players would be interested in someday playing pvp in D3, especially if the pvp system is improved from D2. If you read the full blizzard quote, its pretty clear that Jay looked at the poll information and came to this same conclusion.
If you really wanted to measure how many people want pvp in D3, then you would have to ask a question like "do you want pvp in D3?" I don't see where you're getting the conclusion that noone cares about pvp and that its not going to be a part of D3, unless you're simply misinterpreting the quote and everything in it.
Sort of like, different gaming modes.
'Quest-orientated games'
'PVP-orientated games'
'Leveling-oriented games'
who cares what blizz said, the way to make pvp better is to make longer battles. keep the normal hostility system too.
 Yup thats right... so many players actually want pvp and blizzard is planning to improve it rather than cut it from the game...
The rest of us figured it out the first time we read the original blizzard quote. You needed multiple people on multiple threads to explain it to you multiple times. Seriously, you didn't happen to notice that you were the only person on this entire forum who repeatedly suggested that pvp was being removed from D3 because noone wants it?
Lets see this it from my place...you got a hero and you got demons...and then you say...hey lets go kill other heroes...
You can do it of course especially if other people want the same stuff but I never saw Diablo series for real PvP.
Technically, u can use a spoon to dig in your garden you know, though the spoon is not designed for such purpose. So i guess you can play PvP in Diablo though i would rather eat with a spoon:P
So many games out there...like Tekken among others to really fight other players...
Its horrible getting PK'd thousands of times while your playing friendly pub games. Oh wait...you had on situation in the last month...
seriously who gives a shit about pking in softcore.... its like 2 deaf kids yelling at each other.
but on hardcore, its what makes the game fun. knowing that anyone can kill you at any second, and that i cant trust anyone
