"It's official. You won't be playing
Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty this year, as Blizzard has moved the release date of the real-time strategy game to the "first half of 2010." No, they never dated it; but they have now.
Activision Blizzard's reason for the delay of
Starcraft II is reportedly tied to the relaunch of its upgraded Battle.net service, which handles multiplayer for all things Blizzard. In a statement to the Blizzard community, the developer writes "Over the past couple of weeks, it has become clear that it will take longer than expected to prepare the new Battle.net for the launch of the game."
Blizzard calls the new Battle.net an "integral part of the
Starcraft II experience and will be an essential part of all of our games moving forward." Activision CEO Bobby Kotick said during an investor call today that the new iteration of Battle.net will likely be ready "early next year.""

Yep, they did; source
Amen
Play D3 while volcanos erupt, tsunamis ravage and meteors fall?
Epic!
There aren't many of us Diablo fans (when compared to other games), but we're a devoted bunch ^^.
Same here... I prefer the Diablo universe, but I would've gladly played StarCraft2 intensively for 1-2years while waiting for D3
@Devour: Slipknot rules
1st: Maybe they will 'push back' diablo3, but well, they haven't announced/estimated the release for D3, so it can't really be pushed back until they announce/estimate one...
2nd: http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/59859 <- Blizz doesn't seem to agree with you
As far as I'm concerned, I'm keeping most of my thoughts on the release date of D3 'til after Blizzcon. Much could be revealed, yes. I don't think otherwise that D3's release date will be all that affected. I've been speculating a D3 release date announcement somewhere in the first quarter of 2010, stipulating the actual release date to be no earlier than say Q3 2010. With that in mind, my prediction for D3's release might not be bothered at all by the Starcraft news. Plus, this will be a 'draft' release date. We all know Blizzard will cut and chop that date a bit more for our waiting pleasure.
lolz. I recently watched "Ancient Aliens" on History and heard about the end of the world in 2012. That sounds very scary and hopefully it is false. Lolz.. but it would be sad to say that our favorite game will never even get played when it releases.. in 2012..
Yea, this is true. There is also an interesting effect that comes with software development where if you increase the number of people working on an overdue project, you actually increase the time it takes to complete. It has to do ramp-up time to get new devs up to speed, which drastically decreases the production of people working on the project already because they have to share info. Its covered by Fred Brooks' "The Mythical Man-Month". It's an interesting read.
The thoughts in this thread of the next wow-expansion kind of scare me. I completely forgot about that. It would fit the timeline of other games to have that released in Q4 of next year. It scares me because that would put D3 off until probably spring/summer of 2011, seeing as they would probably give 6 months or so between titles.
I guess we'll find out in a few weeks at Blizzcon what we can expect. I wonder if they'll announce their next gen MMO. If they do, I wouldn't expect another wow expansion unless they announce that at the same time. Blizzcon will be interesting, thats for sure.
Don't worry, it isn't.
Much is yet to happen before the millennium begins.
On topic:
I could care less for SC2, As long as D3 is released before late 2011 I'll be fine, I can't play it until then anyways. (but for your guy's sakes I hope it comes earlier).
The idea of a WoW expansion this early just seems foolish. It just seems WAY too soon, they haven't even released info on the Icecrown (Arthas) content patch yet. Until Arthas gets his socks rocked off we don't NEED another WoW expansion. Not only that, if Blizzard decides to, they may want to create yet another hero class (though I hope they saw how hard it was to balance the first one). That on its own will take a lot of time, because it would be yet another thing to add to developement.
Personally, I think it all comes down to Blizzcon 09. If they announce a major WoW expansion (expansion as in new CD, not content patch), then we will most likely see that by the end of 2010. However, if they don't release this Blizzcon, I got a strong feeling we will see D3 end of 2010. It has to be coming along quite nicely by now, but we will get a better look at that August 21st.
It's possible, because wow is Blizzard's money spawner (lol)
But we all know, no company cares about money
SC2 - almost same thing as SC1 only with graphic upgrades. And will only have 1 campaign of the 3 races. And yet another delay. and why? because of B.net. oh yeah and no LAN. pffff
how about they just release the damn thing and let player decide about their own damn online experience. Its like their trying to force feed you their damn B.net.
