New Blizzard Contests- You Could be a Winner!

Some short few days ago, Blizzard put up on their official website here their formal announcement about yet another series of contests regarding the Blizzard gaming franchises and in regards to the upcoming mega-BlizzCon of 2009:

Quote from "Blizzard »
We are now accepting submissions for this year's BlizzCon Movie, Original Song, and Fan Art contests. Head over to the contest page to submit your entries by 12 p.m. PST on July 24, and you could win some great prizes or a chance to have your work showcased at the show. We'll be announcing specific prizing and submission guidelines for all of our BlizzCon contests as they become available, so stay tuned to

As noted, the three competitions will be in reference to three separate art forms- music, motion picture, and good ol' fashioned hand-drawn fan artwork. So, for those of you that have not won a previous contest here or elsewhere to participate in the Blizzard fun and merriment, this may be your chance to shine!

The rewards were not explicitly dictated in any measure except for the small bit about winners having the possibility of their work showing up at the BlizzCon this year.

Anyone interested is encouraged to keep an eye on the official BlizzCon website, www.blizzcon.com">www.blizzcon.com[/url'] for further updates.
So, any guesses on what the pending rewards may be? Is anyone considering entering in any of these contests? What are everyone's expectations for entries? If they are anything like the ones we've seen both on this website and around the internet, I'll bet we're all in for a treat!

I can't wait to see what people come up with :D

If you go to the contest page on the site, they have the prizes listed now for first, second and third place. First place mainly being an Alienware Laptop. Second and third place being a random assortment of goodies.
  • #3 Cyanide-Tipped
Palimar beat me to it but yep, incase people want to see the goodies he mentioned and not trek on to the blizzcon site, although it is nice to pay a visit here and there, here they are:

    FIRST PLACE
    Alienware Laptop

    SECOND PLACE
Razer DeathAdder, Razer Destructor, Razer Lycosa, Razer Carcharias and Razer Mako

    THIRD PLACE
    NVIDIA Video Card

*Only difference regarding the Movie Contest is that first place gets:

    FIRST PLACE
    Adobe CS4 Production Premium Suite

Oh, they've added some more contests while at Blizzon. Costume, Sound-alike, and Dance... that'd be fun to see. No mention of prizes for those contests yet.

It's one of those "Only US residents can enter" contests again.

THIS CONTEST IS OPEN ONLY TO RESIDENTS OF THE UNITED STATES (EXCLUDING THE STATES OF FLORIDA AND RHODE ISLAND)

This is why I'm losing interest in Blizzard slowly but surely.

Updated the OP with the prizes.

    Are you effin kidding me!
I was so stoked for this, then when I'm reading the rules I notice that it's NOT OPEN FOR CANADA! Yeh, that's pretty awesome I guess. Thanks for that. I guess an ONLINE competition is pretty inconvenient when it includes us.

    ***EDIT

    Cdnalsi, I second your post...

Hey guys, I noticed on the rules for the original song contest it says that you can't use samples from licensed songs, but I was wondering if I could use audio samples from Diablo such as dialogue or sound effects. Anyone have any thoughts or know where I can get solid answers? Thanks.

    Well, the rules say:

Winners shall be chosen by Sponsor at its sole discretion based upon which entrants display the most original, authentic and/or funny artistic expression that is based on the Blizzard Products.

If you couldn't use Blizzard stuff in that way in your entry(/ies), you couldn't actually even enter anything remotely referring to anything made by Blizzard because it's all techicanlly copyrighted, trademarked, etc. So I would say yes.

If you want to be absolutely sure, I'd go maybe try to contact a Blizzard representative- try the customer forum at the Battle.net board or emailing Blizzard.

I am considering entering the fan art contest.

Hey guys, for the people planing on doing an original song for the contest i really think you should read the rules, especially 7! it seems that by entering the contest you give rights over to blizzard to use your song in anyway they want. change it, sell it, call it off as their own even?

i was real excited for this contest but now i'm hesitant for even sending it in. can anybody clarify rule 7?

here it is, copied from the contest rules. any help would be great. this is kind of urgent considering the contest deadline is only a few days away cheerz

You hereby agree that in consideration of your being allowed the chance to enter the Contest, you hereby grant Blizzard Entertainment, Inc., a perpetual, non-exclusive, worldwide license and right to utilize the entry materials that you submit to Sponsor in connection with the Contest (collectively, "Entry Materials"). The Entry Materials will not be returned to any entrant. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, you acknowledge that Sponsor shall have the right to use, modify, reproduce, publish, perform, display, distribute, make derivative works of and otherwise commercially and noncommercially exploit the Entry Materials in perpetuity and throughout the universe, in any manner or medium now existing or hereafter developed, without separate compensation to you or any other person or entity. You agree to take, at Sponsor's expense, any further action (including, without limitation, execution of affidavits and other documents) reasonably requested by Sponsor to effect, perfect or confirm Sponsor's rights as set forth above in this paragraph 7.
