So, for any of you who were hoping for World of Sanctuary (the pet name we've all given to a hypothetical MMO installment in the Diablo series), this won't be it.Quote fromThe unannounced MMO in development by World of Warcraft creative studio Blizzard will not be based on one of its established franchises, a representative iterated today.
"We've already stated it'll be a brand new franchise, which means the lore, art, and game play are being developed entirely from scratch," said Blizzard community manager Zarhym on the World of Warcraft forums, in a post noticed by Worldofwar.net
Zerhym referred to the new MMO as a "shell of a game thus far." Blizzard has previously said that the title is being developed using the World of Warcraft engine for testing purposes.
"It's an overwhelming process, but a process through which we excel," added Zerhym. "Our track record supports this."
While not particularly Diablo-related, it is in Blizzard's realm. I'm curious to see what will come out of this MMO- if it will be a reliving of WoW or something new and fresh. I wouldn't put it past Blizzard to make good on this opportunity for an MMO with better graphics, better questing, and just about anything else.
They've also explicitly stated some things that they are going to be working on with the new project- particularly the lore of whatever game this might be, artwork, and gameplay. It will be interesting to see how they are going to redo the age-old MMO gameplay style.
Thoughts?

just check up on wikipedia...there all there

There we go, just scroll down and you can see them all
1. Steam Punk
2. Cyberpunk
3. Modern day
Both are relatively not seen in the MMO market. Especially Cyber Punk, I have yet to even come across many games in that genre.
Only reason I added modern is because it is a posability. Its very far away from any of their other games.
So if they are making something completely different from all their franchises I really only see these as being possible.
I personaly would love to see a Cyberpunk MMO. After reading Altered Carbon, that genra is by far my favorite.
It says in the OP quote that the WoW engine is for testing purposes only; I'm guessing until they finish whatever engine they want to run it on.
Me too, I don't really know how to feel yet, Underworld Vampires = Win. Twilight anything = fail... Depends on how they end up pulling it off if it was vampires, and werewolves ,maybe.
O.o
Modern day Alien invasion
FPS MMO

"Actually we have talked about some of the canceled games that we have started over the years. Prior to working on Starcraft, we were working on a game called NOMAD. It was never announced but we did start working on it, we did start developing this sort of post-apocalyptic universe [that was gonna be the] setting for this game... I'm sorry this was after Starcraft, this was... Right after we worked on Starcraft, we started working on this game NOMAD, and a little while into it we said, 'You know, it's just not really doing it for us, we're having problems, not really with the world design, the gameplay's not really coming together. If we were going to start up a new project right now, today, what project would we work on? Would we work on NOMAD, or would we work on something else?' And we all said 'We would work on something else.' and we said 'Well what would that be?' and it looks like [?], 'We would do a massively multiplayer Warcraft game', and we said 'Well, why aren't we doing that?', so, there you go."

I like the idea of something with modern technology in a global disaster... possibly with the occult, like HG:L? Robotics like Terminator: Salvation? Anarchic gangs like Mad Max? Could be fun...
