New Diablo 3 Character Class Announced: The Archivist!

Let it be known that April 1st, 2009 is the day in which we all collectively rejoiced, for today is the day in which we learned about our new favorite character class for Diablo 3: The Archivist. Thank you Blizzard!

"Out of the darkened studies of Westmarch emerges the archivist, Diablo III's newest playable class. Proving once and for all that the pen is indeed mightier than the sword, the archivist fights not only to save Sanctuary's future, but its past as well.

To find out more, visit the brand-new archivist information page to read the latest excerpt from the journal of Abd al-Hazir and see some of the archivist's powers in action.

We've also expanded the media galleries with one new piece of artwork and two new screenshots."

Here's the impressive concept art for this new character who truly believes the pen is mightier than the sword!

These new screenshots showcase the Archivist's amazing "Book Vision" abilities along with his radial dialogue tree showing how he can outwit just about anybody in a conversation!

You can learn all about this amazing new character here:

As if that wasn't enough, Blizzard has also announced their new MSPOG:

I know, I know... I couldn't believe it either. You can read all about it here.

Weak joke for Prima Aprilis. Or it's not a joke coz they though we would though it as a joke and therefore we can consider is as a joke? ;]

    Anyway, a joke.

    cheers

Oh god, the move animations are HILARIOUS.
LOL the archivist dies every time.

    Blizzard you're awesome.

I certainly hope there will be a reference to the moves "Lorenado, Quest Bolt, and Shush." Quite entertaining, and I can only hope to see an easter-egg appear in the game.

They have really put an effort for this kinf of april fool joke.......
  • #9 KorbinDallas
Yeah Eve, you're right, those animations are epically funny. I guess we can all see why adventuring and saving the world is a young man's game.

Some people just don't know when to quit.

looks fun, reason why he moves SOOO slow? I hate slow movement speed :(

Pity it's an April Fool's joke - i actually like the idea. At least he'd kick the WD's tooshie.
  • #12 dorgeismydog
OK, this will show you lol.

Look at both of the IN GAME screenshots. The character(when zoomed in) is african skin toned,(you can tell by his head and hands) and bald headed. WHICH MEANS for the images, its the WD in different armor. The only things that are different is the ONE piece of concept art(wow not out of the way for a joke) and the animation of the supposed character, which can easily be nothing or even an NPC such as Abd al-Hazir.

EDIT: and especially after reading the whole dialog tree, one of his responses is "I am not a wizard" wow like that convinces us and isnt obvious. Plus, his "mana" is a brain surrounded by liquid.... even if it is his "intillectual" abilities he would still require mana to use some spells.

    Well played, Blizzard...

    Well played.

They should have put in a "Lecture" power. He could just go on and on about who knows what until, unable to take it anymore, monsters begin killing themselves in great and violent ways! It would be the ultimate power.

    Reminds me of college...

Although it's a jocke what a kick ass character! I would like to see him as an NPC! The "Book Vision" just hilarious. But the best of all is the 'shush" spell...

    "hmmmmmm"...."hmmmmmm"...

PS: Should D3 have the graphics of the supernew MSPOG (!!!) "Blackthorne"?

I dont want to sound like a complete shithead BUT Blizzard first finish the game and then start doing jokes. Wonder how much time was wasted to do this joke. Dont get me wrong i really like how Blizzard makes these jokes and some are really good. Even too good that i would like to see them actually ingame :) But Diablo fans have waited so long anyway and now that we know a new Diablo is on the way then for me atleast every minute counts. If this means no april joke = a game week earlier in my hands then i will take it!

As I said in the other thread on the forum: Just amazing.

Seriously, we NEED this as an easter egg class after completing the game on hell with all classes. Give us the Archivist Blizzard!;(

Just think of the awesome suicide builds with max Shush:o lol.

    Really nice one Blizz:P

    Haha that would be awesome!

But I still thought the videos were pretty funny. Too bad it wasn't something real. I'm dying for some legitimate videos.

    for Blizzard!

"In my day there were no colors." That one made me laugh.
