Blizzard and Microsoft Xbox?

We've all heard how Blizzard intends to keep their games on the PC and will always consider themselves a computer gaming company, but in the past year they've hinted at how they'd be open to possibly having their games on a console again. IGN's The Daily Fix recently reported that Blizzard is in talks with Microsoft in regards to their next generation Xbox console.

"Blizzard has been in talks with Microsoft over the next Xbox. Rob Pardo confirmed at GDC that the new system is already in development. Pardo also mentioned why World of Warcraft hasn't come to the console: the current hardware just isn't designed for it."

Obviously, WoW has been Blizzard's bread 'n butter for a while now, but here's hoping that this means we'll possibly get to see Diablo 3 released on consoles as well.

So how many of you would be inclined to purchase the next Xbox if you knew some of Blizzard's future games were going to be on it? Would it influence your decision? Naturally, this is assuming the games turn out much better than the Diablo port for the original Sony Playstation did. ;)

I'm not surprised that they'd be seeking ties with the XBOX out of all the different consoles. Many XBOX games are ported to the PC anyways, so I'd have to see if the games will be exculsive before I go and buy a new XBOX. I have one at the moment, but who knows when they'll make a game that is for that console.

Perhaps it's the unanounced game? hmm.

Either way, I wouldn't buy a console simply for a Blizzard game. I'd get the console for many other reasons first.

imo blizz games should stay on pc...

If they are just talking about games and not about the actual console then no. This xbox 360 is rubbish.

I don't mind if blizz starts making games for consoles, I just want to keep the quality as high as it is. and no console exclusives please...

It's not designed for it because it wasn't meant for it! (in my opinion)

If Blizzard releases games simultaneously with the PC and new Xbox console - I think i'll just stay on my PC. ;)

I just hope this doesn't interfere with Mac support or i'll probably bomb Blizzard headquarters.

I will help carry the detonators ;)

If I got to choose between a console version and a PC version of Blizzard games, I'd stick with the PC version, unless they actually decided to make the controller for the console as convenient as keyboard/mouse. I'm not a big fan of the current generation controllers, and how they sacrifice efficiency for simplicity.

Microsoft: mouse + keyboard of GFTO Blizz/Diablo business

That said, yes, I'd go for XBox. No installs, keys, DRMs, etc is a bless.

    Agree.
And also want to note that this is pretty old news.
But this is pretty interesting, to why is Blizzard in talks with Microsoft about the new Xbox? Maybe the new unnanounced game will be on the new Xbox? Is Blizzard starting to make games for the new Xbox?

I think the gameplay would be dramatically different.

I'd say a game like Starcraft: Ghost, if they ever wanted to continue it, would be a console game.

I doubt Diablo III would ever go to the consoles; maybe a new MMO.

But don't be surprised if the new X-Box will have a keyboard and mouse parts associated with it (add-ons).

    Also; 360 is not rubbish.

Hm, maybe that's what Blizzard means by "Next-Gen MMO".

maybe not yours... mine broke after 4 months and started freezing, now those guys at the shop say they are not experiencing anything like that with it and tried repairing it but to no avail. I'll do an x clamp fix when I get it on monday...

I'd stick with my PC, I haven't even thought about buying a console in the past...five years or so.

D3 game controls will be different.. so i think its possible to see this game in console.

    Do explain.

I own a 360, but I think I'd stick with any of the PC version games so doesn't bother me. The only thing I wouldn't like is if Blizz decided to do exclusive, which in all honesty I don't think they would do since that would alienate their PC market.

It's a good idea for Blizzard to expand to console, for example my PC as it is now can run D3 no problem but to run it at top notch performance I'll probably need to invest $400 before release, which in all honesty I don't mind doing it's time for some slight upgrades regardless of D3, I'm a 23 year old with a job though, a teen-aged gamer is gonna be hard pressed to get mom to cough up that amount of cash. You can buy an Xbox 360 for less than that right now and it's a machine that's built exclusively for gaming unlike a PC. I'm actually surprised WOW hasn't made it's console debut by now.

After watching Xbox destroy some of the PC industries greatest titles like FEAR and the Elder Scrolls just so they could be multiplatform I would much rather have what PC gaming companies we have left stayed the hell away from console. I don't want streamlined interfaces and toned down game play mechanics just so my favorite series can play well on a controller and TV. Anyone who has a been a huge fan of games that have been hurt by this multiplatform rubbish understand what I mean.
