Blizzard has unveiled a new design for Battle.net complete with new features and functionality. The development of a "new Battle.net" has been hinted at for a long time in anticipation for the upcoming releases of both Starcraft II and Diablo III.
The new Battle.net is an upgrade to all preexisting Blizzard Accounts tied to Starcraft, Diablo 2, and Warcraft 3. Owners of World of Warcraft have an option to merge all of their accounts to the new service.
Be sure to check out the new Battle.net Account FAQ too, as it may answer many of your questions regarding the new system.
The new battle.net accounts will be used only for WoW, SC2 and D3 (and other games after that) so everything in WC3, SC and D2 stays as it is. As for D3, we will use our email and battle.net account password to log in and will probably appear in chat channels as the selected character. For SC2 im not sure but PROBABLY after you log in with your email, you can create multiple player names and get different stats for each of them.
And this is what says in the news post:

Although, I can't find another source to confirm that. But the new B.Net site did mention that old B.Net accounts are soon becoming invalid... And D2 1.13 is coming... Can't be a coincidence.
It never asked me for my WoW account info. It just has a feature that lets you merge your WoW account to your B.Net account. It's certainly not just for WoW players.
Ah yeah. Well, other games need to be patched first. I didn't follow the developments in the world of SC1 and WC3 lately, but we know D2 is getting a patch.
Are you sure it's just for North America? Did you follow the link given in this thread or did you go to eu.battle.net?
EDIT 2: New B.Net account obviously supports passwords with more than 12 chars, meaning that patch 1.13 for D2 will have to implement a whole new interface. \o/
Battle.net 2.0 doesn't function with Diablo II and such, only for WoW. Classic Battle.net is still being used, and will continue to be used, for the older games. See their FAQ. Only WoW, SCII and DIII, as well as upcoming games, will make use of the new Battle.net. So no, they won't need to nor have any use for a higher character count for passwords for Diablo II-related accounts.
Q: I already have a classic Battle.net account that I made for StarCraft, Warcraft III, and/or Diablo II. Can I just use that?
A: No, the new Battle.net Accounts are separate from classic Battle.net accounts for StarCraft, Warcraft III, and Diablo II. To allow for the Battle.net features we have planned, we’ve built the new Battle.net Account system from the ground up for World of Warcraft and upcoming games such as StarCraft II and Diablo III. In order to play Warcraft III, Diablo II, and StarCraft on Battle.net, you will still need to log in using your “classic” Battle.net login information.
I'm not sure where you guys are seeing this. I'm going to go check our announcements and stuff to see what you guys mean.

Instead of going Battle.net and Battle.net 2.0 they're just renaming the old old Battle.net Classic
Suppose its not that big of a deal
I guess incorporating games like D2 and SC1 which are going to be as dead as D1 is when they're prequels come out just seemed like unnecessary time spent to Blizzard
Well, I just *prefer* to call it Battle.net 2.0 because that's what I've been referring to it as for years before any announcement about it. It's kind of like the "web 2.0" concept- not really new, just a new way of thinking of things, in relation to Battle.net 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 (1.0 I equate with Diablo I/SC, 1.5 with Diablo II, and 2.0 with newer games that use the interface). Just preference, really, I guess. Not really wrong however you refer to it, and we all know what each of us is referring to no matter how we reference it.
I love the fact that if you add your games and have legitimate serial numbers you don't have to worry about losing/scratching your install discs anymore. You can now download the game online from battlenet for free and install it over.
yah, i downloaded the client for Diablo II: Lod and i dont see a difference, so what did it do? it finished downloading then it exited, so im guessing it did something to the game? but what? less lag? less bots? does anybody know?
Battle.net for Diablo II, and all other games, saw no change whatsoever. I'm pretty sure this is just dealing with their browser client. We *may* see changes with Battle.net in regards to old game interfaces in the future, but there is currently no basis for that yet, to my knowledge.

Edit-
This is the only article I can find on 1.13: http://www.diablofans.com/forums/showthread.php?p=403160#post403160. It doesn't mention anything about incorporating Battle.net 2.0 with Diablo II.

That's great.
Also, yea, I think I'm seeing stuff. I could of sworn I saw something about D2 and SC1 moving to Bnet 2 later...
Idk, I'm seein' shit... *Walks away mumbling.*
