This could be a sign also that Cain would provide identifying as a service again! They must keep that! I always loved that sound: ''Stay awhile and listen!'' - Whoooooosh! Good times!

I agree with Bashiok. The identify system was never really a big deal to me either. I guess I wouldn't care if I still had to use scrolls or Cain to ID something. But I'd rather no ID stuff take up place in my inventory.

In fact, Identify was always cool because (in D1, if I correctly remember (i was like 10 yrs old so) you could have some cursed item and wear them anyway. In D2. It was more anoying than the rest, cause once you had you inventory full, you had to identify everything to throw crap loots to be able to get other unidentified. This process was just a reason to buy more scroll of ident or scroll of tp to go ident and sell stuff. If Blizz, like they already stated earlier, want to make the game faster with less stops, less going back to town. They gonna need to find something else.

I thought about the fact that when I started play Diablo 2. The coolest feeling was not to identify a good unique item, but rather just seeing it drop on the floor. Not knowing if that Golden : Great Sword was good for me or not.

If so, they may just let items unidentified on the floor and that these items just identify automaticly once you pick them up or use them.

If it's after using them, of course, no bind on equip should be in the game. Also, that would be good for trades. If the attributes aren't static. People could play with this on trade, just liike they did in D2 v1.10

Of course this might not be how it is in the final product, but in one of the videos in http://www.diablofans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17052, there's a Scroll of Identify as a drop, so... Dunno about auto-ID.

That doesn't necessarily imply auto-ID is out of the question. They might toy with a system where, for example, certain items auto-ID and others don't. Rare weapons might auto-ID, whilst unique ones don't. Something like that. To be honest, I'd prefer identifying items myself. Mainly because of the suspense of not knowing how good an unidentified item is

I don't think I'd be happy with having the identify system taken out. For me it adds to the experience. I mean if you were out scouring the wilderness in real live, you wouldn't pick up something and instantly know what it is.

I say take a page from Baldur's Gate (PC version) and Icewind Dale. Depending on how high your lore skill is, you can check the item's description and have it identified that way as well.

you could make less stops to town by allowing more scrolls to fit in a tome maybe 100? I would really hate if they got rid of IDing items especially uniq items because the only thing better then a deaths fathom dropping is iding it and seeing its 30%.

I would like to see items drop in D3 that cannot be identified by any scroll or even by the all knowing elder Cain.

Some of the items you will be able to use some you will not.., the ones you can use will have hidden (unlockable) properties, that can only be revealed by a certain person, item or object... some of which being extremely rare.

Imagine the possibilities.. you get an item that kind of looks like this.

Not only would it drive you crazy trying to find out how to completely ID your item, it will also be very rewarding when you finally did.

Golden heart valves? Perhaps this mean Deckard has been an angel in disguise all along. I mean, he just HAPPENS to be the only survivor of Tristram? He's an old man...I believe there is more to Cain than meets the eye.

I am no expert in Diablo lore but if I correctly remember, he is not just a old man, he is something like the last of the Horadrim, powerful and mysterious mage group that are linked to every thing evil have to do in the world of Sanctuary. So of course there's something we don't know about him

But yea, he is still an old man.

for me it added something for sure.. i like picking up something and knowing that it could be crap or the best thing that i've ever found

just wouldn't be the same if it dropped identified.
maybe it won't impact actual gameplay much, but if it's gone then something is detracted from my gameplay experience

Yes but they need to reduce the amount of crap you find to make it better, I think treasure should be rarer in D3. It was just laying around too much in D2, D1 was closer to the target. You found enough to keep you interested and the ratio of average to good loot was spot on.
