Diablo III Release "still a long way to go"
"I don't know how far out it is, but it's still fairly early in development. I think when people see it, it feels so polished and so finished, but the reality is we have a very small portion of the game done right now," Pardo explained.
He added: "A lot of the way we develop is: We wanna make sure the game is really fun and the visual fidelity we want ... we wanna make sure we have a small area that feels really done so we know what to build. So even though it looks really complete a lot of the content is just not there. We have a long ways to go to build each of the different acts in the game and put in all the quests and all the different monsters. We have a lot of development ahead of us before it will be something ... It will definitely be out after StarCraft II."
It looks like we'll be waiting for Diablo III for awhile yet. Let's just pray that Starcraft II comes out within the next few months.
Thanks gyrextt for spotting this in an interview I'd read but kinda skimmed over.
Well, first off, I'm not pissed off. I've been anticipating a 2011 release at best since announcement and have said so numerous times.
Anyway, you also have to consider on the other hand that if nothing was announced about it at that WWI after StarCraft just getting its second installment, fans (to use your stereotype) would be equally pissed off. It's a lose-lose scenario, although I'd rather it have already been announced, otherwise I would probably have given up with the franchise and probably this site.
Moreover, I would expect an expansion pack to be finished quicker than Diablo III because there is a lot more people in the WoW team (they have an entire floor at headquarters) and it's not an entire game. Also, StarCraft II was announced a year before Diablo III, so I think it still makes logical sense that StarCraft II hit shelves first, anyway. It would have been an insult to StarCraft fans, on the other hand, if Diablo III, being announced a year later, beat StarCraft II to the shelves.
So, anyway, I'm not pissed off, so I guess I'm not a fan, since being pissed off about just about everything these days seems to be all that people qualify as "fandom" in the Diablo franchise, but that's my two cents.
And of course it was a given that it would be released after Starcraft 2. How couldn't it be? Starcraft fans have been waiting longer than us.
As for the early announcement, I think it was a good idea because I noticed that fans (except for the always optomistic hardcore fans over here at diablofans)were starting to lose interest and hope for Diablo. A lot of people really needed that extra boost of excitement that came with the early announcement. Plus, it also leaves plenty of time for Blizzard to listen to their fans' feedback and create a satisfying product.
And come on guys, waiting isn't a death sentence. There are a lot of great and much more productive things you can do in the meantime before Diablo 3's released. Christmas will come, just be patient.
I will concede this point.
Not really, quite a few people complained about the wowish graphics, including myself. However I would rather play it with wowish graphics than not at all, so I can live with it. But still, I don't think Blizzard makes many decisions based on consumer feedback (Bugs and other associated feedback from beta testing are excluded.), regardless of what they tell you in public or in private. They make decisions based upon what makes money.
no they aren't
it has actually amused me at the QQ (and how off base it all is)
I hope they delay it another 10 years just to see everyone continue to bitch and make empty threats
don't like it? leave... we're waiting...
I really hope they release it next year *keeps her hops up*
If that happens, it won't be ten years, and it will have nothing to do with the fans' expectations. If it isn't out by 2012, it will be because they don't want to threaten WoW subscription money with a one-time box sale and because they want to move the better developers on the team onto the new MMO. Both are good reasons to cancel the game, whether or not they bother to let us know about it.
Blizzard isn't exactly known for being concerned how long it takes to put out games, however they do have one of the strongest and most loyal fan bases of any major gaming company. They know they can afford to pretty much feed us scraps every 6 months or so and they KNOW we will sit at the end of the table and wait for the main course to be delivered, whether that be in 6 months, 1 year, or 2 years down the road.
If Blizzard puts out a game that is of the caliber of games they are known for releasing, then the end result will be a game that we will love, and is DEFINITELY worth the wait.
The truth is that although all of us don't like the fact it wont be out for a while, probably 8-9 out of every 10 people complaining about it and saying they won't buy it will STILL shell out the cash when it gets released.
Yes, you go and keep those hops up, man
(Sorry, I had to :P)
I'm right there with you on the twenty-eleven, though.
