Diablo III Release "still a long way to go"
"I don't know how far out it is, but it's still fairly early in development. I think when people see it, it feels so polished and so finished, but the reality is we have a very small portion of the game done right now," Pardo explained.
He added: "A lot of the way we develop is: We wanna make sure the game is really fun and the visual fidelity we want ... we wanna make sure we have a small area that feels really done so we know what to build. So even though it looks really complete a lot of the content is just not there. We have a long ways to go to build each of the different acts in the game and put in all the quests and all the different monsters. We have a lot of development ahead of us before it will be something ... It will definitely be out after StarCraft II."
It looks like we'll be waiting for Diablo III for awhile yet. Let's just pray that Starcraft II comes out within the next few months.
Thanks gyrextt for spotting this in an interview I'd read but kinda skimmed over.
<westerbountyhuntervoice> I'm looking for a necromancer. He has a habit of bringing long-dead threads back to life, tricking people into thinking there is news. A pat on the back is reward to be given to the person who brings this criminal to justice. </westernbountyhuntervoice>
But seriously, stop.
I suspect that the game will be released around xmas of 2014 cause Starcraft 2 was supposed to be out the middle of last year and its still not here and its coming in 3 parts.
It is along way off but D2/LOD was and is the best game ever so expect this to be even better and since all other games take a back seat to these we have no choice.
Just hope no more new Witch Doctors show up I like to think that a Ranger is next.....
Just waiting for the next charactor is bad enough:O
Id kill for Summer 2010!!!!!!!!! Im wondering when this year sc2 will be released lol
That's a better guess than the folks dreaming of 2010 (and with an assumed target of 30 hours of gameplay plus Blizz-level balancing, a competing release of SC2.1 and 2.2, that is just a dream), but if they can't hit 2012, cancellation becomes more likely. The engine will just be too old at that point.
This wouldn't be such a bad thing for Blizzard's bottom line - WoW will probably have better margins than ever at that point, easily still making 600-700 mil sub revenue a year on a development budget which will probably have dropped to well under 100 mil annually by then (if not much less than that).
Your ignorance is not better than anyone else in this topic.
I expect SC2 to be out end of this year and Diablo 3 by end of next year. if not next year then end of 2011 MAX.
If you have or have not noticed, Blizzard has found a "backdoor" or "loophole" to get around the majority's opinion on their games graphics. Take WoW for instance, everything is cartoony, has cell shading, very few polygons etc) we all know by now(the game is 5 years old). Anyways, when blizzard creates their games, each game has its own unique style in graphics. They know that they cant compete with the other game that have cutting edge graphics, its obvious they put more time into the gameplay aspects of the game than visual effects; so they create their own style to keep the game from aging, and clearly its worked so far... everygame they have created is visually different from almost every other game. Blizz hasnt created any content that is visually groundbreaking; only mechanically. This example clearly shows that this process exists throughout all their games as they are still very popular... This is why it makes sense that it takes forever for them to produce games that are always addicting, some way or another groundbreaking with new concepts. They'd rather put more time into the user experience which is obviously more based off of game mechanics and concepts and not visual communication.
Is it just that they don't want to compete with their own cash cow with their own games? And who can blame them?
ill tell you why
this interview took place almost ONE year ago
poeple shud stop worring about when this title will release
sink your teeth into this
Blizzcon O-nine - New Character announced

so chill out
OOOOO ya best game ever. Best char in the game Melee Met sorce
Quite frankly, I understand that games take quite a while to be developed and that's more than reasonable. No one wants to play a sh*tty game. However, by officially announcing a game 2 (OR 3 IN THIS CASE) years out is just ridiculous. To reiterate my opinion, They shouldn't announce the game so early in the development cycle. It just pisses fans off. Especially in the case of Diablo 3, when we've been waiting for almost a decade.
I'm no marketing wizard, but I would think announcing a year out from release would generate plenty of excitement and hype for a game. I guess the suits at Blizzard HQ disagree.
Sad...
hmm
do you have an mmo with 12 million subs?
or an arpg series that sold 18million?
or a rts that sold 10million?
I'm thinking blizzard HQ disagrees because they have proven themselves
/agree
Maybe, though the fact is that only a few of the important people in making that string of games from '96 to '01 are still there. In the case of the Diablo team, absolutely none of the leads remain.
I agree with this statement as well...
Metzen and Morhaime and Pardo are the only ones who matter
(and Jay Wilson left Relic for d3 and look what happened to them in his absence)
oh and Bill Roper was lost! whatever will blizzard do without Hellgate London and Champions Online quality games!
1997 Diablo1
2000 Diablo2
2011 DIablo3?? eh? ... WHAT?
Are you f*** kidding me? 11 years to make a slashing game? Well if the game take 2 more years from now, it has better be truly amazing or this is going to fail like "Duke Nuken Forever". And we all know Blizzard. They ALWAYS delay the release. it is probably going to take until 2012 or 2013.
And what kind of crappy marketing is this? How can Blizzard keep generating so much hype over a game that will take such a long time? Moreover, by the time they finish developing the game, the D3 engine may looks like crap compared to the competition.
This is madness. Forget it. I am truly switching to Guild Wars 2.
