Character Stat Assigning
I was able to be one of the first to tryout the new playable demo Diablo III. I was able to get a lot of information so far in regards of skills, gameplay, graphics, dialog, NPC's, and more...
One of the more interesting things about the game play is the Character Stat Assigning. I was able to level up the Wizard and the Witchdocter to a few levels and noticed something strange.
I was able to talk to the lead director of the demo area and was no at liberty to say but was able to tell me that Character Stat assigning will be totally automatic. You will not have any control of which stats get increased. This greatly reduces stragety and builds for the near future when Diablo III gets announced.

He was actually right... just heard about this, sounds extremely awesome.
Now what im wondering is what is that guy on the top of the Caldeum page?

Could that be the new Holy type character? b/c he looks bad ass even with the pope hat.
They'll probably announce that tomorrow I bet.
I didn't like the fact that I had to research how to properly allocate stats, just in order to be effective past normal mode. I will admit, to do really well, a player should have to work at it in order to do well. But just to be able to compete fairly well in the 2nd difficulty mode? The previous system wasn't terribly noob friendly and you really had no way to rectify past mistakes with character creation.
Yes, having the ability to customize a character's stats added depth to the game, but that doesn't mean there will be no depth in this game. We don't fully know how many spells characters will have or how well spells will work in conjunction with other spells. And if you've looked at the new Rune System, there will be a lot of different ways to customize your character and make it unique. Some Runes will work better than other runes for certain spells and people will be combing runes to spells in varying and interesting ways, ways that you wouldn't think to work well. Maybe people will find rune combinations that mimic strange builds from D2, builds that are very unique, but maybe aren't as effective as cookie cutter builds, but are fun nonetheless.
I don't see this change as a bad change, personally, I like this change. It isn't lessening the depth of the game, but rather the focus of the game is changing.
O and they may make item requirements to be similar to WoW. All they have is a level requirement, with some items being class specific. Item bonuses determine what type of class the item is for, but you can still wear whatever you want. We may still see different builds because there may not be class specific requirements for every item. So you may see Barbarians who are wearing items that boost their spell power for spells that do actual magic damage instead of focusing on melee strength. You could very well see types of builds like "Singer" barbs and Melee sorcs.
Yes this is a downfall but it also removes "Yes Im goona get 4k health bo me get 8k and be godly couse all my stats are in vitality!!!! and all these itesm i have give + to strength watch me be gay bitches"
This removes oh so much strategy from the game, especially for melee classes. Do you want a lot of damage or a lot of hp? Faster attack & block rate? Or slower but more powerful swings? Do you pump strength to use that awesome axe and become a glass cannon? Or stay with your weaker one, but build HP?
With the removal of runewords, there will be no more "cookie cutter" builds, or +50 to str items. Didn't they remove charms too? Didn't they say they were focusing on rare items again? People couldn't pump vit and survive.
They are turning Diablo into Gauntlet.
"Over the top" spells? Yay
Totally unrealistic environments and equipment? Yay
Humorous violence? Yay
Regulated leveling? Yay
Bright, clashing colors? Yay
Health drops that you can't store? Yay
Not returning to town in the middle of a level? Yay
Enemy generators? Yay
Granted, Gauntlet is one of my favorite games of all time, so I'm not panicing about the simularities (I only got D2 because I loved gauntlet so much), but it is totally different from what D1 & D2 were like.[/QUOTE]
Did you read about Skill customization? Also the Skill trees seem much larger and many passive skills seem to affect stats.
Wow, now I hate what you just said sorry =/
If I want a full vit wizard, please, please, don't restrict me =(
Because everyone with the same stats is unique.
People keep saying that this will force people to find items that are unique to them because everyone was using the same items in D2.
But they are removing runewords. That alone would have solved the problem. Uniques (without botting) are too rare to be "cookie cutter," and with the improved focus on rare items, stat assignment would be even important.
Like you're, say, a wizard. You find a good set of armor. Because you're a caster you die fast in combat. You need more strentgh to use it, and you've gained a level, but you also run out of mana faster than you'd like, seeing as monsters seem to swarm you all the time. Do you use your points to last longer if you get hit by getting the armor, or take down more enemies with you spells by pumping mana?
I also love how the Blizzard fanatics jump on anyone who doesn't brown nose D3. I was making an observation – not a complaint. I think D3 will be a fantastic game, OK?
You'd think they announced that Diablo 3 was canceled or something.
Like I said its a slap in the face of players who are good at Diablo and it is just catering to newbie people who couldn't hang with the good players. They require a bad system like WoW and other MMOs where all their decisions are made for them so they can be at the same level of someone who is good. So like I said hell just ditch the Diabo name and make an MMO with Heaven and Hell cause thats where this is going so far.
