Top 10 Monster Comebacks in Diablo III

If you ever wanted to reminisce about the good old days, Project XII has written an article over his own user blog which has been featured on Hellforge entitled "Top Ten Monster Comebacks", which is a list of the 10 critters he'd like to see return from previous games in Diablo III.

Yeah, Oblivion were bad, but those advocates made me want to strangle babies, and don't get me started on those damn succubus...

It's Gharbad, not Gorebad... Other than that I'm enjoying the article so far, had to point that out though as he's one of my favourite characters from Diablo 1!

the succubi in d3 better be naked plox

    nice list..
i wish they will also put there gargantious beasts ( those cute bears you know :)) ) yeti..
sand riders.. actually.. everyone will be not satisfied, unless all monsters from d2 will be put in d3.. :))
well..hell spawners - the only creaturres i wont be happy to be killing in d3..

That guy that made that list had no idea what the monsters could do half the time. He obviously did not play Diablo 2 in the last year or 3.
  • #7 Sol_Invictus
I'd like to see Treehead Woodfist make an appearance in the game.
  • #8 Romak
For the love of god... NO Stygian Dolls!!! Those fast-running melee-maniacs who just love to explode and kill you instantly... no, just no.
  • #9 Spaz.
my fauvorite is absolutely the dolls, wow how many times have i died in hardcore to them? probably around 4-5 atleast :P on the higher levels...

but what sucks is that your mercinary was a computer, a brainless one, and he just loved smashing those buggers and eat the explosion, along with yourself ofcourse if you're a teleporting sorceress. a teleporting sorceress, sometimes with ampfily damage even, at <1000 hp just doesn't live trough that many explosions. rather die on the third if lucky, but usually the regular mf sorc was dead after 2 hits xD

and he's way to hard on the succubus', they where awesome in expansion too, a horde of them could easily take you down if not careful enough, they where so unexpected sometimes, way more dangerous than the bloodlord, that sure did hard damage, but took its time between the hits. those succubus fuckin SPAMMED those ball-stuf, and it could hurt if you got stuck. alot.'

oh well was a fun read, thx ^^

Where's the Oblivion Knight? Okay they weren't that cool in D2, but in D1 they were really scary evil looking .

And what about the Souls, who hasn't at least been killed once by a barrage of lightning coming at you from nowhere and then one of those ghastly being popped out of thin air.

Certainly both of them are more memorable than the Blunderbore and the Blood Lord (even though they were pretty cool too).

    I hate this top-ten.
Thats what I'd call a 'Top ten monsters I'd never would want to see in D3'
Only monsters I liked was ,The Overlords (only because their pretty much a copy of the Butcher) And maybe Goatmen because they have a great death-animation. (I liked it)
  • #12 Kenzai
I want damn D1 oblivion knights.

BTW i really never realized that the clubs of those giant "blunderbores" are actually corpses wrapped with chains. Thats really kickass.
  • #13 Daaavid
WTF!?!?!?! There are no SOULS in the list... they are sooo annoying, souls need to come back to haunt us!!
  • #14 hiDDen
    Minotaurs were bad asses. :o)
  • #15 WickerMan
I can agree with some of these monsters to return, but there are also some I didn't want to see again.
However, I would really be missing the "Oblivion Knights, Souls, Pit Lords and ofc The Council Members". These were the most awesome monsters in the game beside dolls ofc. We all like run fasting bombs.

I would like to see another difficult, that could make it more interesting. I just joined Diablo 2 again, and after a few I had done it all.

same here, guess he was right, blunderbores was good in theory but failed in reality @ diablo2...

souls and dolls, wow the fear of any hc player. and viper's @ nihlatak so I heard, never was dumb enough to play nihlatalk runs on hardcore, so ez to make a misstake and very not worth it imo, but they're bugged afaik

Rofl, I didn't know Blunderbores swung around dead bodies. o.O
And wewt, He mentioned nude succubi. But I don't Blizzard will do that though, lol.

Bring back doom knights from d1 i love how they burst into blue flames. And the naked succubi they were a big pain walkin into a room of them (sience you gatta walk if your a dang warrior lol) I want to see the mages like Archbishop and his lil gang of teleporton bastards again.

while this was an ok read, I feel that the author of this piece will be greatly disappointed in Diablo III.

The reason I say this is because he expects too much of them. For almost every monster on his list there was a "since its been 20 years, they better have evolved into some badass monsters who can whoop your ass instantly"
... we all know that's not how it'll work in Diablo III, I think it was Jay who mentioned that Normal mode can be beat by spamming one skill the whole way through so...

Seeing as how not a single one of the modelers, animators, A.I. programmers, sound effects people or game designers who worked on any one of those ten monsters are working on it, yes, he may well be, if he's hoping for something similar.
