If you ever wanted to reminisce about the good old days, Project XII has written an article over his own user blog which has been featured on Hellforge entitled "Top Ten Monster Comebacks", which is a list of the 10 critters he'd like to see return from previous games in Diablo III.
1. blinkbats (bats from d1 that teleport)
2. the hidden (or stalkers i guess theyre called; invosmen from d1)
3. leapers (on of the more dynamic creature in d2 imo)
4. Corrupt rogues (sexy )
5. Reanimated dead (LOD they need to be dragging their swords ;p)
Id mention goatmen, fallen, and succubus as well, but I cant imagine theyd leave those out.
I would rather see some monsters from Diablo 1 reappear in Diablo 3, because they were the most memorable ones. Most of Diablo 2's monsters are not that creative and well made. Maybe that's an over statement, but you just see more talent and skill involved in the creation of the orginal Diablo creatures. You can't compair a simple fallen one from the cold plains to a Knight you find in the 19th level of laberyth.

Diablo's 1 PvE > Diablo's 2 PvE imo. Diablo monster used skills that REALLY effects your gameplay, like Advocates that you have to petrify then or they just teleport and the Winged Demons that are hellsh overpowered but transform theyself into stone so you had the oportunity to kill one by one easily, but not using AoE spells or you would wake up then all.
Diablo 2's monsters skill most of time can be ignored. Just some are trully bad ass like Oblivion Knight's Iron Maiden and the Lightning Enhancement of those scarabs in act 2.

Looking over the article, I had forgotten about the acid spitters/spitting terrors and the horned demons. I'd like to see them back, as they added more depth to monster behavior.
I forgot about LOD's stygian dolls, I felt they were a good way to improve upon the little midgets from act 3. They were a much more significant problem than their original counterparts in act 3. I'd like to see this line of creatures back in some form too, as long as they do somethign significant.
Loved the D1 beastiary. Buther FTW!!!
Heres my list:
Hidden (nice sounds)
Overlords (loved the mm's and aah's of these guys)
Goats (again the sounds + they carry cool looking weapons)
Steel Knights(that Lachdanan guy amazing)
Fallens (preferably the D1 version)
D1 atmos > D2 atmos
And someone please remove the fatso's from D3. They look like cuter versions of the Warcraft fatties.
what makes me mad is that they had monsters that should have been on the list actually show up on top 10 monster farewells. I friggin' loved the tentacle beasts, man!!! And the defilers? Pure gold! Project_XXI I scoff at your stupid lists, good sir! SCOFF!

Ya, I like some of the mobs on the top ten farewells too. Some of them were forgettable and jokes, but there were a couple that weren't bad mobs, and with a little help could be great.
Ya... I liked the fetish in concept, felt the just needed a bit more to make them significant.
Blood hawks were nothing special, but I liked how they had the nests that kept spitting them out...
Liked how the wraiths stacked, made things more interesting... added an extra challenge.
Liked the demon imps caused they reminded me of the battle tactic used by acolytes/robed spellcasters in hell of d1.
And liked the leapers because it was a unique monster behaver in d2.
I liked half that list >.>
They mention the frog demon at the end, and I always felt if they buffed them up a bit they could have been pretty cool with how they jump out of the rivers...

4. Death Knights (D1)
5. Succubi (D1)
You probably read about it earlier in this thread, into which I have merged yours.
