Jay Wilson Talks PVP, Art at GameReactor

GameReactor has a new interview from GC2008 with Diablo III's lead designer, Jay Wilson. The interview takes place in a 9 minute video.

Parts of the video include discussion over Blizzard's core development strategy, and how they want the game to feel. This includes the potion system that incorporates with the orbs, and how these things make Diablo III a more challenging experience.

The video also covers co-op functionality, challenging PVP, individual loot and as expected, they even go into the topic of the game's art direction. Jay states that Blizzard actually expected a more negative reaction, because strugled through the same feelings the players have, but now they are so used to it they will definately not change it.

Well, they're staying their course for the Art Direction, I'm glad to see that. As far as PvP, keep it away from PvE and I'll be fine.

Thanks so much for the info :)
I'm always happy to hear someone talking about Diablo 3 ,especially if it's a dev from the Diablo 3 team :D

Even there is nothing new, i'm still glad to see anything related to Diablo 3 :) So thank you.

I was the one who complained a lot about art direction, but now when i see that Jay has to speak about the same for 10th time, i'm feeling pity for him :P He has a nice patience lol.

Anyway, i'm not fully agreed with his one point, that they needed to change it to make the players distinguish who is who. Well, from what i'm seeing, the character is preety much the same as monsters. The same colours, i don't see anything which could make it easier for me to identify who is who. I even saw a screen from D3 gameplay video, where i couldn't find the character, coz i saw very similar monsters around him.
That is only point i don't agree with Jay ;]

Thanks, again nothing new.. but wtf ?
lol "it has been hinted"... this is bullshit.. no way there will be a real actual DEMO in blizzcon, demo that will be playable over there.

  • #6 Sol_Invictus
We can only hope that it's true!
  • #7 Robiwan
why is it so implausible for you guys to think there won't be a playable demo at blizzcon? Is it because of the slow release of info? because, if so, then don't you think blizzcon will be the best time for a demo?
  • #8 oren88
No Dude, It's too early for a demo imo, Of course I want it too so bad, but I'm sure it isn't, they can't produce a Demo in such short time, they didn't even announced all the classes yet for damn sake.. dude, no way.

There may me playable "something". How is it called then in english? I thought that Demo... ;)
But if they have playable "sth", it doesn't mean that this will be same same demo WE will get someday. For sure not the same. It will not be oryginal one, but some alpha demo. Why can't it be? Surely can.

well that was a "clear" interview and nice to listen.

you know i liked the fact they they will try to make you Not run away but fight! i really like that! in deed in d2 we alwayed run to avoid critical hits and get back in town to get potions etc....they sure think is that after a while you will kill the enemy and you will miss the "fun" of been or fight to the end...!

also i start to rethink this All ART COLOR idea, i mean if we will see in BlizzConn a new dungeon that will be more gothic (as they said) then i like it,
but if this annoying GREEN lighting will be 80% of the dungeons i will hate it :(

i am 1000% sure Blizzard Got a Good Messege when we disliked few thinks in their art direction too, and they will change it "silently" without admin they were totaly misguided by a Great but WoW art director!

they will give us a demo in Blizzcon that will be Amazing! :)

i love they way also health & mana & items will be co-op to everyone!

    go blizzard GO!

Man.. you need to work on your english :P
Anyway, there might be a "playable" something like you said, but not for the audience and that's for sure!, but only for Jay Willson or any other guy that will talk and show some new info on the game, just like they did in WWI, same thing...
  • #12 Daemaro
Sounds like they know what they're doing.

    Can't wait until Blizzcon! ^_^

Heh, sorry ;) I know english pretty well, but when i try to write sth in RUSH, i make simple mistakes or there is sth like "slip of the tongue", but in writing ;] (i don't know how it's called in english).

And about this playable sth, well, i wouldn't be so sure ;) They said, that they had huge plans (for showing sth to fans). So announcing a new class is "huge" plan of theirs? ;]
What would it cost them if they let some people play doctor or barbarian in some dungeon? ;]

I'm glad they are trying to seperate actual co-op from the people that just want to destroy everyone. with that news i actually might play online with D3

every interview is about the colors and art direction...

the game looks just fine, you just need to adjust your LCD's colors :P

comme on, lets be honest, the game looks excellent imo.

we all want something super but jay worked on WH40000 and i suppose that some of u played that game... to be honest i didnt like it, especially the models and of course the colors,
    but d3 looks different.
    good interview btw.

i just dont get it, every time, they ask the same questions, none of the reporters dares to ask something esle.......:(

i should be there and ask questions

im starting to think that the reporters are instructed at the beginning of the interview about what they should ask :(

    we need more....

They probably are, I mean if you ask something he won't answer you're just wasting your time and his time.

    true

but whats the point of an interview then ???

    hmmm...
  • #18 Romak
Awww... no more stealing loot? No more PK'ing? Diablo 3 is offically a goody-goody game... because ruining for others is a no-no. Well, no biggy, actually I knew this would happen.
