Jay Wilson: The biggest thing is, that we are targeting not to be an 18+ game. If we were to get an 18+ rating, we would likely make some changes to the german edition, to make sure it would not get this rating. But we handle those things pretty far in advance. We are already talking about the rating and what qualifies as an 18+ rating in europe to make sure that we do not hit that level, because we definitely want to make sure that the game is sold here.

Is 18+ in europe = to M rated or AO? Im hoping it means AO because if they want it to NOT be M rated they're insane.

18+ in Germany/Europe according to PEGI is similar to an AO rating in the United States.

16+ is similar to a Mature 17 rating in the US. So that's what they're aiming for.

Diablo 2 and many other violent games are rated 16+. Very few games, including Age of Conan, receive an 18+ rating, and those that do are not allowed to be displayed on shelves.

i like the idea of bring back the mercs (now followers) its good to have some help.

I also think that it would be funny if they kept some of the joke items in the game (example: your the barbarian and your killing monsters with two candy canes...lol)

in the guy who plays Cain interview, he says d3 is much more serious than d2 was, so I doubt we will see any candy canes :-/

I'd say this was a fairly good interview- more than I can say for some others, which were so vague that we might as well asked a paper sack.

this is the first interview that got us new info. all the others just keep asking the same questions and get the same answers.

Cool lots of new info in this one; nice catch. I'm looking forward to hearing about the improvement of mercs and he said they "will be more interesting." Maybe they will have back stories like in the books (ie Kingdom of Shadow). Also nice to see the death penalty gone and having old legendary items possibly come back; would like to see how they implement that, honestly just want to see some loot. I'd say the best interview to date since most of the others were just rehash of old info.

Great interview, finally someone asked questions besides "will the art direction change?" and with the witch doctor in D3 will the necro return?

It's not about not giving any penalty, it's more about not pissing off people who die. Like losing a lot of XP and having to walk all your back to your corpse with no gear and your using a melee can be pretty annoying. Besides if gold is going to be more important there's still some important penalty for dying.

I'm really curious as for what death system they're going to come up with and how it will be different from both WoW and D2.

I wanted to bring the Hardcore issue.

Let's say that death penalty can vary in harshness. While Diablo 2's death penalty has an average level of death penalty harshness, Diablo 2 Hardcore had a maximum level of death penalty harshness (Losing your character if you die). This idea was good because a player could choose how harsh the game will be, BUT when it comes to Battle.net, the communities had to be seperated to Hardcore and Softcore, this made the community very small because Hardcore players couldn't reach Softcore players. So Hardcore should be removed from battle.net, but not from Single Player.

And about the normal death penalty... and that's my opinion: I think Diablo 2's system was awesome... The only stupid thing was the loss of gold which made the gold even more useless than what it was (Your gold was not even safe in your Stash!). Everything else was awesome. The loss of experience which increased as you progressed, the fact that you have to reach your corpse while avoiding the actual thing that killed you on first place and if you are surrounded by hordes of demons, you're done for So anyway... only the gold panelty sucked and maybe they should also have fixed that bug that people could exploit to steal other people's gear if they fill their inventory and reach their corpse...

Why would I have to create a new game because I can't get my corpse back, that sucks big time. It sounds Wowish but I think you should at least be given the option to start back in town with all your gear for greater penalties.

Because you died right in a middle of a demon fest without being alittle more careful, that's why. Of course, if you died because of something stupid... like if you died in a place with low number of enemies because you forgot to drink potion or you had a lag, it would be very easy for you to recover your corpse, but if you died surrounded by monsters that were strong enough to kill you before you were able to react, you deserve a game restart. To be honest, that didn't happen for me alot of times, not even when I played though Hell in Single Player.

They quit and reenter the game to get their corpse back then someone tp them and they're back on their feet before they even know it. I prefer having to suffer higher penalties as long as they keep the pace of the game fast. Besides it's likely that you won't be able to cast tp while fighting monsters so those checkpoints are indeed going to be important to keep the pace fast.

followers you say? more interesting? maybe you can do their skillsets custom? that'd be awesome. Or possibly you can have two or three depending on strength / cost?

Hmmm... you're right. I really didn't take that trick into consideration, sorry. I was thinking of single player where the game ends when you leave it, while in Battle.net, even if you leave and right after that enter the game again, you will most of the times succeed in getting in before the game closes. So yeah... that really is a flaw. Though I still prefer having that kind of interactive penalty, and not some stupid thing like percentage reduction to health and mana (Like in Guild Wars).
