The main reason for the corpses not being able to stay permanently is the potential number of them on screen at one time, and specifically that each corpse is affected by physics, allowing them to be blasted and thrown all over the place by the force of player abilities.
It's one of the trade offs when integrating new technology, you can get really awesome effects, but they do have a cost. In a 2D world, a sprite of a dead creature doesn't really cost any more (system requirement-wise) than a sprite of something that's alive. Probably less. In a 3D world where a creature dies and then needs to have physics calculations thrown onto it so it can bounce and fall and fly around, they cost substantially more.
We remember fondly those situations where you've just completely obliterated a camp of Fallen, and as you're picking up items - marvel in your destruction. That's a feeling and part of the gameplay where if we can realistically keep some of it without sacrificing features or having insane system requirements we'd definitely like to, but no promises.
When questioned as to how skills like Find Item, Corpse Explosion and Summon Skeleton would work in D3, if they were indeed included, he responded:
We haven't announced any abilities outside of those listed on the website, so by discussing what is or isn't in the game I would be essentially making an announcement, which I'm not prepared to do.
Thanks for the tip, Dead9k!
O nd 5 chars isnt enough make it 7 like LOD :P.
But its good that they are actually reading peoples concerns and complaints about certain things in the game thus far.
Anyway i made a thread about that some time ago here:
http://www.diablofans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12337&page=3
I hope blizzard and maybe great Bashiok will read my thread and think about it, maybe it will change something in the final product.
At least I and many other's hope so.
AFAIK sc2 does the same thing, but the videos I have seen have had corpses last a little longer
Most of all they should make this game for good computers.
I hope its not no corpses no summoning undead.
1)They could have corpses disappear after you leave an area.
2)They could have corpses turn into sprites after awhile.
3)They could have an option in the menu to keep corpses on.
4)Corpses decompose like in warcraft 2
Aggghhhhhhh, BLASPHEMY!
note that none of the games you listed ever had more than 20-30 bodies on the screen at once
go play gmod and see if half life 2 can handle 50-100 ragdolls stacked on each other then blown up with a nade
My thought is, it is either that, or Blizz seriously underestimates everyone's PCs, or even worse... there are still a lot of people who can't afford such a PC, which I feel sorry for considering it's a luxury and what they go through with necessities.
Commandment number 8
Exploding Monsters Are Cool
[]corpses vanish immedietly
[]corpses vanish after {insert seconds/minutes here}
[]corpses vanish never
making the coprses vanish like that is just really disapointing. and, the graphics on D3 arent awesome, most PCs these days can handle that fine.
Corpse explosion was one of the illest abilities ever. Innovative, and useful as hell.
I mean come on now this is D3, use that WoW money it's not like back when they were still making D1 and D2.
Does anyone honestly know how much profit these guys pull in, that alone makes it hard for me to believe by the response they are putting any real effort into this issue.
It's just sad, if Blizzard can't even do this I wonder if they will even try...to have a policing system as successful as WoW aka "Warden".
Because we all know the most important part of playing the game in closed battle.net is playing WITHOUT ALL the Botters/Hackers/Dupers that flourished in D2.
Did you guys have seen the benchmark of the new 4870 X2 ? holy sh***t
Come on, for the game play video, I had i great impression of a low graphic spec needed to play. All the games top-to-bottom have the advantage of a very limited FOV and this helps a lot the FPS, obviously considering that the engine is optimised (unloads from video memory the placesthat the player cannot see in the same dungeon/area == portalarea concept from the source engine).
I mean honestly lets just forget the other possible problems, or the other things we want to discuss, Corpses are the most important thing to the game! forget the characters i just want dead body's everywhere or i wont play d3! * sarcasm off*
I can't live without Corpse Explosion!:D
After being stomped or yelled at to death, whatever the hell happened to her.
And then she got tossed in the air afterwards, which was hysterical.
