Mike Morhaime showed a cinematic of Diablo 3, now we are getting a gameplay video.
The Barbarian in this video fights over 20 mobs and he dispatches them easily. You can destroy and interact with the environment -- this is physics at work here. You can access the character window similar to World of Warcraft. Weapons can be enchanted. The barbarian is now doing whirlwind to deal with powerful enemies. Some lootable chests have traps ... the example given -- the chest activated a trap where many skeletal casters spawned to attack the barbarian. Deckard cain is talking in-game now in a interesting interface for RPG.
We see now a Witch Doctor class that can summon Mongrels as pets. He can create a wall of zombies to block incoming attacks of mobs from reaching you while you annihilate them. The Witch Doctor is a ranger basicaly casting from afar. The gameplay is about to end but before they want to show us what a real fight is in multiplayer with a witch doctor, a barbarian and a rogue. Holy cow this huge beast with four legs and a huge body that takes haf the screen is fighting the three classes. The beast is named Siegebreaker assault beast. It has a lot of HP but the 3 classes are doing heavy damage to it. It dropped an amulet and gold. The creature just exploded after looting and hundreds of skeletons now fighthing onscreen. Diablo 3 logo seals the gameplay video.

PARIS, France – June 28, 2008 – Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. today revealed Diablo® III, the newest entry in its critically acclaimed action role-playing-game franchise. The announcement was made during the 2008 Blizzard Entertainment® Worldwide Invitational at the Porte de Versailles Convention Centre in Paris, France. A cinematic trailer and an extended gameplay demonstration with commentary from the development team introduced the game to the thousands of players in attendance.
“We’ve wanted to expand on the epic story and gameplay elements of the Diablo universe for some time now,” stated Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We know that players have also been long awaiting a return to the series, so we’re very excited to be sharing this announcement with Blizzard gamers here in Paris and around the world today.”
Diablo III will pick up the story twenty years after the events of Diablo II. Mephisto, Diablo, and Baal have been defeated, but the Worldstone, which once shielded the inhabitants of the world of Sanctuary from the forces of both Heaven and Hell, has been destroyed, and evil once again stirs in Tristram. Playing as a hero from one of five distinct character classes, players will acquire powerful items, spells, and abilities as they explore new and familiar areas of Sanctuary and battle hordes of demons to safeguard the world from the horrors that have arisen. The first two characters classes -- the barbarian and the witch doctor -- were shown as part of the announcement at the event today in Paris.
Diablo III will feature a custom 3D-graphics engine to render lush indoor and outdoor areas of Sanctuary with a high level of detail and vivid special effects. The game’s physics-enhanced environments will be interactive and destructible, offering traps and obstacles that create added danger for players and monsters alike. These elements, along with a new quest system and random scripted events, will be integrated into the game’s random-level generator, giving Diablo III the ultimate combination of dynamic gameplay and replayability. Cooperative and competitive play will be available online through an upgraded version of Blizzard Entertainment’s renowned online gaming service, Battle.net®.
Blizzard Entertainment is developing Diablo III for simultaneous release on the Windows® and Macintosh® PC platforms. Further information about the game, including details on the other character classes, major new features for the single-player and multiplayer components, system requirements, pricing, and availability, will be announced as development progresses. Actually they do belong. Seeing as Blizzard is developing an entire backstory for the Umbaru's.
naw u made it seem like BAAL was a totally new introduced guy in the expansion set of d2. i was just saying he was a big part of the story in d2 and not just new to the expansion.
and your point about the candle and the meteor makes sense and seems likely. but i doubt it personally.
and as of right now, i love the Fallen Angel theory the most given the very little information we have.
I can totally see Tyrael being either corrupted by the worldstone/hell or abandonned by heaven/god for intervening with the mortals in Diablo2.
either way as long as there is a heaven/hell conflict consider me SUPER EXCITED.
I checked out the gameplay demo. Man..it looks fantastic. I can hardly wait to get my hands tapping away on the keyboard and clicking on the mouse. It seems that they have sacked the health potions completely and health/life is now a drop item. That's a nice change..though I do wonder how we are supposed to replenish mana.
I also noticed a couple of scrolls of identity drop by...I hope can will help us again for free to identify the items!
They haven't totally ditched health and mana potions. Players just have a quick alternative now.
I will quote myself because I was wrong about them coming from Kurast.
I also hope that they make the stash much, much bigger.
hell yeah dude, so i dont have to do the Hide in the corner drop and return with another character only to find some1 else sifting through your stash.
stay a while and listen....

deckard cain will not be corrupt!!!
or he might...haha
Yup, simple changes that would make the game simply better.
Welll, you can look at it from many different angles. The whole "stay a while and listen" could be a tactic of his to distract the player from fighting the evil, and buying time for the evil to destroy/take over.
Hence the gameplay trailer, Barbarian pretty much tells Decard to fuck off, and carries on..
I like your forum name.
hahah, so true
Would an MMO actually be that bad, though? Sure - you have to pay for it. That is crap. But it also greatly reduces the likelyhood of dupers and hackers which ruined D2 for me.
The best things are yet to come, so thanks again for helping us make Diablofans.com the best fan site out there. You guys rock the brimstone!
Man, the pleasure is all ours. You guys rock! This site kept my hopes up.
No problem buddy you and d3 deserve it.
If they can manage to keep the hackers at bay by just using battle.net I'll agree with you. A game so much about items like Diablo is really ruined when dupers get involved.
