I think Blizzard is looking into a way of displaying your DPS for each element in details tab under your character cheat. Until then, the easiest way of comparing dps is to just do the math yourself.Quote from Flexy
The only thing I am too scared to try right now, are the special affixes like +12% Fire damage, +8% more damage against elites, etc....
Is there a rule of thumb, like "It gives me +12% fire damage and costs me -8% overall dps = it's an upgrade!"
I'm having a hard time testing things like that to the point where I can be sure if it's actually better :/
If we look at an item with -8% dps and 12% increased elemental skill dmg. Assuming your dps is 200k, then the 8% loss in dps will result in 200*0.92 = 184k dps. Then we take that dps and add the 12% fire dmg ---> 184*1.15 = 211k. 211/200 = 1.058 which is a 5.8% increase in dps. Assuming you run a all the same elemental build.
If we take a -12% decrease in dps and a 12% increase in elemental skill dmg and do the same math we are actually get a decrease in dps from 200k to 197k.
In conclusion: If the dps loss and elemental dmg increase is very similar it's usually not worth it. However, if the increase from elemental dmg is a few or more percentages above the dps loss, you usually look at a pretty substantial dmg increase.
