They could end season 1 then release patch, they will mostly do it in one maintenance then either a week after or few days later when the servers stabilize start Season 2.
Simple answer is that Legendaries NEVER get retroactive changes unless they were game breaking , set items get retroactive changes because sometimes the bonus is game breaking and they don't want you to have pieces of an old set that you can't complete or stuff like that happening also they don't want to have like 10 different versions of a set after a year because of the changes they have been doing.
There is no need for you to wait in the Trial if you want key level 1 , simply teleport out as soon as you get in before the wave even spawns and you will get the key.
All gems and item procs as far as I know were fixed in 2.1 to scale with %Elemental damage from items.
Gems for sure do scale up with your damage stats and %elemental damage
You will eventually need to redeem keys to your B.Net account , all the old keys have been converted to a new format that you don't get without first redeeming your keys to your account and you won't be able to install or log to b.net in Diablo without the keys.
These legendary affixes are from RoS , you will need RoS to get all the items you see online.
Also RoS makes D3 a much better experience , i would totally recommend buying it if you are enjoying D3.
I love seasons , it is the only thing keeping D2 alive this long and it is the only thing that makes players go back to D2 after this many years.
Just gather some friends and go kick some ass , shame though that D3 doesn't have that thrill in hardcore like D2 , where first party to go into hell needs to really work carefully and in Sync to survive and players dying left and right , in D3 you can simply play on normal and go all the way to level 70 and stay on normal until it is safe which makes HC that much less exciting.
Other than that , 2.1 is shaping up really great and seasons is one of the main attractions but there is also grifts for some challenge , legendary gems , new socketing item , the 2handed buff looks good , I hope it works and I wanna see some serious monk changes and more build changing legendaries to allow more diversity in builds at higher level instead of only one set of items.
Rather not have trading and have good itemization system , current system seems to work better than any older iteration , also I don't feel like it is impossible to progress without trading/AH which is a good thing in a game that is mainly focused on loot hunting.
If boulder toss is still physical just like I remember then the answer is no , having weapons that deal fire damage doesn't change the damage type of the ability you use.
Why not stack physical if you like Boulder Toss and get the Three Hundredth Spear , there is a physical rune for Avalanche
The game is mostly about gearing up and advancing your character and smashing things with your friends in Rifts or Bounties or whatever you enjoy.
With the next major patch there will be new things like Seasons and Tiered Rifts that will hopefully challenge you and introduce some kind of competition to this game with Leader boards and so on.
Enjoy the game for what it is now and try to get new gear and make new builds , it has lots of things to do.
Your Elemental damage is good but other than that you don't have enough damage.
Most players when they gear for Holy and they have low Crit chance(20-30%) they get Cooldown reduction but also keep Crit Damage high and with Judgement<Resolved> you can get very high crit chance and the cooldown reduction in combination with Akarat's Champion<Rally> can let you reset your abilities very fast so you can spam Provoke for Wrath and Judgement for Crits and Blast things away.
Holy Damage weapon is good for Crusader because you can get bonus from Holy Cause increasing your damage and healing you when dealing damage so it matters in this case , also for pure damage hallowed shield isn't the best item because other shields can offer so much more than just damage (Lidless Wall has the potential for highest damage , other shields offer more utilities that are usually better than just pure damage).
Amazing build , this is how barbarians should be rocking Loved it.
One small thing I would like to add , please when you put your battletag don't cover that much of the screen but other than that amazing.

Btw you are so lucky for finding all these items , I haven't been finding anything I want but with RoS in almost 1 day I don't care much for gear now and I am so hyped for the launch night , taking my barb to act5 and starting the madness.
Hitting 70 and Unlocking Mystic with any of my characters except DH which I can't get myself to like no matter how hard I try(I miss you amazon :-( Javelin Amazons are the best).
Then after that I will either play my other characters to 70 through act5 if I enjoyed it on my first character or level them in Adventure Mode or I will roll a new crusader with minimal twinking so I can learn it fully and learn to play it in the hard situations and not cheese my way using ruby in a weapon.
Oh Oh I am gonna call in sick first day of the expansion and stay the whole day at home playing , I will try my first 24 hour play session :P.
