Combat. Ya know....the thing we spend 99% of our time doing, fighting demons.
Combat in D2 was ....it sucked dick, frankly. The only variance with monsters was their immunities. To make that worse, the same monsters, in the same spots with the same immunities, every time. There was no thought required. No variation. Easy easy lemon squeezy.
With D3 we have IMO a fucking insane amount of enemy variation. Forget immunity, these demons have skills. A wide variation of skill combinations that often synergize with the monsters inherent skill affixes (Phasebeasts with teleport inherently built in + 4 other affixes).
I snapped this SS of a particularly freakish Elite pack I encountered the other day.
Now......that was fucking fun. They were on me like a swarm of bees, just teleporting and spewing molten and arcanes. In the snapshot I was running away like a bitch when the boss man teleported right on top of me and lowered his god damn hammer. Notice the Fast affix......also...notice the fact that I didn't even get a half-second to use ANY heal/serenity. I walked into the room where they were and it immediately filled with arcanes, insane arcanes, LOTS. So I ran and POP...dead. Fun stuff.
My penis shrank 3 sizes that day.
Point being...there are numerous freakish combinations possible. This aspect is far more important for them to have gotten right than the itemization.
Wait. Before you bite my ass off for that last comment.
Itemization can be embellished, expanded.......FIXED.
Combat mechanics, fluidity and variation....they HAD TO get that right the first time. IMO....they fuggin nailed it. -

Where the game fails to meet many of our expectations appears to be, by a vast consensus, itemization. Though I feel people are unfairly (and mistakenly) targeting certain aspects of itemization as faulty. The randomness of item affixes is a great advent, truly relegating Legendary items as 100% unique in most cases.
Crafting in D3 is indeed the most underwhelming system currently in the game.Crafting is not a good substitute for Runewords.
Crafting is not a good substitute for the horadric cube.
Crafting is not a good substitute for turning white items into godly gears.
Crafting is only a substitute for gambling, nothing more.
They could've had something much more interesting that made us search for blues/yellows with specific rolls, and then require us to find 100 bracers that have "+x% crit chance" in order to imbue a crafted Bracer with a "4-5% crit roll"; or each Pant with a 99% max mainstat roll increase the chance of getting said roll on a crafted pants by 1%.
They could even make white items more interesting by having us search for the "higher quality" ones in order to increase the chance of getting a high roll (again, it could require 100-200 of those). The possibilities were endless (ship has sailed already).
We would then actually search for "useless" items to make a good use out of them. We would have some sort of control over what can be rolled on our items. We would be able to value the "useless" items on the AH (like a pair of pants with a max int roll) and we might even see things like a Helmet with 250 STR be worth say 50-100k gold to someone who's crafting his own custom Helm.
They'd be suddenly pleasing people who don't like RNG that much (a lot of people!), and those who want an "end-game" goal (empowering their character without having to pay 5 bil gold for items on the AH).
So trueCrafting BoA items was nothing short of an emergency salve for the troubles of the AH, player complaints about extremely anorexic drops and a very limited itemization table (no jewels, charms, RW's).
Looking to be farther away with each passing month/patch.Bad news is; Substantial fixes are far off. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.
