does tnt fix the fact that sentries dont benefit from IAS with 3 spenders? i tested your spec on t6 ghom vs the one with only multishot and ca. in both tests i just put up 4 sentries and timed the run (i have the 1.47 breakpoint). 2 spender was around 21-22second while 3 spender was 28-30second, however i dont have the taskers thats why im interested if they actually make this build perform better than the 2 spender build
No, at the moment does not fix it. TnT and IAS are on different factors, so TnT affects sentries but IAS is still bugged.
so 2spender TnT should still outperform 3spender TnT?

e: i tested it, 2spender tnt is still 2-3 seconds faster than 3spender tnt for me so damagewise the build sadly underperforms

posted a message on The Gunship (Definitive Strafe Guide)
    Hi guys,

my name is Tankor and I've been a Strafe DH pretty much since 1.07 (iirc that was the paragon patch). Since RoS made Strafe a lot more viable and even more fun than before I'm making a Guide about what I feel is the best and most refined spec to play Strafe and which I have dubbed "The Gunship".For people who do not want to read the guide or understand enough of strafing to just want to see a profile of a strafe DH here is mine

    http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Tankor-2271/hero/231385

    1. Introduction and things you need to know about Strafe

This Build might be one of the most gear-dependant Builds in the game to play efficiently yet for me it is also one of the most fun and rewarding. The general Idea is that you want to permanently Strafe and play without any resource generators thus you never ever stop moving which makes this build feel very very fluently. Now because Strafe is a channeled ability and we dont want to play with resource generators we need to find ways to: - Minimize the cost of the spell

    - Maximize our Hatred Regeneration

Luckily with the introduction of RoS their where a few affixes (mainly Resource Cost Reduction) and Items (more on this later) introduced which makes it possible to never run out of Hatred but again this is heavily gear dependant. What you need to know is that the strafe channeling cost scales with your attack speed meaning that if you have 1.0 attack speed your strafe will consume 12 hatred per second. Now when dual-wielding the minimum attack speed attainable is 1.84 (1.6 from the xbow and 15% bonus from dual-wielding). Therefor the minimum Hatred cost per second for Strafe is 12*1.84 = 22.08 Hatred per Second. This sounds a lot (and it is) but it is possible to infinitely strafe with the right items (more on that in the item section)

Lastly if you aim for farming very high torments this build might not be what your looking for. From my experience over the years this Build still has a relatively low "Bang for Buck" ratio. What I mean by that is that you will need the absolute best gear to farm high Torments with this efficiently.

    2. The Build

This is the Build I am using right now:

    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/demon-hunter#eiOlSd!Zbge!ccaaZc
    Core Spells:
Chakram - Shuriken Cloud: Since we are not using any Hatred Generator this is a buff that will let us plow through enemies doing extra Damage while strafing

Strafe - Demolition: In my opinion this is the only viable Strafe rune since it deals AoE damage and thus has the highest Damage output. Notice that it is a fire rune so this build generally focuses on fire damage and greatly benefits from the Grenadier passive.

Vengeance - Personal Mortar: Again since it is the only fire vengance rune this is our go to rune and what makes you truly feel like a gunship when activated. Additionally since you are firing grenades instead of homing rockets this also benefits from our Grenadier passive

Vault - Trail of Cinders: If you have a Cindercoat with at least 25% fire spell cost reduction this makes this rune as efficient as tumble costwise while still having the benefit of the fire trail on the ground. If you dont have a cindercoat you might want to consider switching to Tumble.

Grenadier: Our core passive - 10% more grenade damage and 20% increased grenade AoE

    Tactical Advantage: for increased mobility

Archery: this is core when dual wielding. In my opinion nothing beats dual wield strafe but if you dont have the items you might consider something else like hot pursuit, nightstalker ambush or perfectionist

    Variable Spells:

Rain of Vengeance - Dark Cloud: Because this is the only RoV rune that seeks its targets automatically and moves with you this is the best option in general even though it is not a fire rune. When running higher torments you might want to switch to Flying Striketo stun elites orAnathema for more damage.

Companion - Bat Companion: Gives us 1 Hatred regen and 50 hatred on a 30second cooldown

Blood Vengeance: Restores 30 Hatred and 3 Discipline when walking over a health globe

If you have the absolute best possible gear in the game you will be able to sustain perma strafing without needing Blood Vengeance. This will open up a passive slot best replaced with perfectionist for survivability or ambush for increased damage.

If you dont have the mandatory items to sustain strafing with only the Bat and Blood Vengeance you might need to replace Rain of Vengeance with Preparation - Punishment: gives 75 Hatred for 25 Discipline

    3. Items

    Core Items
There are two items in the game which are absolutely godlike for this spec, the first one being

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/item/hexing-pants-of-mr-yan"Your resource generation and damage is increased by25%while moving and decreased by20–25%while standing still." which gives us a permanent 25% damage boost and 25% increased hatred regeneration since we are ALWAYS running (this does not work for discipline). It pretty much doesnt get better than that.
    The second item being
    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/item/cindercoat
In my opinion to make this build work cindercoat is absolutely key (mandatory if you will) especially when dual-wielding since we need a lot of resource cost reduction to make this build work and this item gives us 30% in one item. If you dont have the Pants you might want to consider crafting:
    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/item/kmar-tenclip
    Complementary Items
Apart from these Items you are pretty much free to choose anything you like while following a few guidelines regarding the stats on items:
Definitely get fire damage and strafe damage wherever you can (Strafe damage on Boots and Helmet, Fire Damage on Amulet and Bracers)
Aim for 50-60% critchance and 450-500% critdamage.
Head:We want Dexterity, Critical Hit Chance and Strafe Damage on our helmet.
    Shoulders:
    Amulet:
    Gloves:
    Bracers:
    Belt:Dex and three toughness stats
Rings:Stone of Jordan with Fire, Dex, Crit/Resource Reduction and Bonus v Elites
Ring of Royal Grandeur with Dex, Critchance/Damage, LoH and Resource Cost reduction
    Boots:
    Weapons:
You can get 4 Piece Marauders + 3 Piece Natalyas taking Marauders Boots Shoulders Gloves or Helmet and Natalyas Weapon and Boots or Helmet.
    Resource Cost Reduction:
As I said Strafe cost scales with your ATS. Ideally with no attackspeed on gear whatsoever you will have 1.84 ATS when dualwielding which puts you at 12*1.84 = 22.08 Hatred Cost per Second. As you can see above I recommended Resource Cost Reduction and Hatred Regen on a few Items. Assuming you have hexing pants of mister yan, 1.5 Hatred Regen on one of your weapons, the Bat companion and the Templar follower you have:
    (5 (Base) + 1 (Bat passive) + 1 (Templar) + 1.67 (Bat active 50Hatred / 30secs) + 1.5 (Weapon)) * 1.25 (hexing pants) = 12.7 Hatred/Second
Thus to achieve infinite strafing without the need of Blood Vengeance we need to dump the Hatred Cost of Strafe from 22.08 to 12.7 via Resource Cost Reduction or 42,5%.
Assuming we have a bad Cindercoat with only 25% Resource cost reduction and the 10% resource cost reduction from Paragon Points
we need two more items with 8% resource cost reduction which will put us at:
    22.08 * 0.75 * 0.9 * 0.92 * 0.92 = 12.61 Hatred Cost per Second
thus achieving infinite strafing when using the Companion active on Cooldown.
Generally if you want to calculate your effective Hatred cost you can use this formula
    (12 * Attackspeed * (1-Resource Cost reduction)) - Hatred/Second = Effective Hatred Cost
This is all you need to know regarding stats on items and what you should aim for to achieve infinite strafe.
    Best in Slot Set:
If you want to achieve the highest Damage with this build aim for these items (with stat guidelines from above unless stated otherwise):
Head: Andariels Visage with Fire Damge, Dex, Critchance and Strafe Damage
    Shoulders: Aughild's Power
Amulet: Anything with Fire Damage, Dex, Critchance and Critdamage,
    Chest: Cindercoat
Gloves: Magefists with Fire Damage, Dex, Critchance, Critdamage, and Resource Reduction
    Bracers: Aughild's Search
Rings: Soj and Ring of Royal Grandeur
Pants: Hexing Pants of Mr. Yan
    Boots: Natalyas
    Weapons: Natalyas + K'mar Tenclip

    4. Paragon Points

Pretty much only 25% movement speed and 10% resource cost reduction are mandatory. Fill the rest as you like but avoid attack speed in offense.

    5. Follower

Templar because of the Hatred Regeneration passive

    6. Playstyle

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LiQazjMVBMIthis is pretty much how the spec is played, no really just hold the right mouse button and plow through everything. Use vengeance vs elites and rain of vengeance on cooldown its as simple as that. If it is requested I might record a rift or two.

This concludes my guide on strafing. I hope you have fun with this build.

    Regards

id say keep it if u upgrade ur weapon soon...else just sell it
Upgrade to what? I cant afford any sensible Manticore that would come at least close to what I have now. I dont see many 1.4k DPS crossbows with CHD&socket on AH either.

Problem is that Nats 2P is absolute keeper so in order to swap Nat's chest, I would have to buy either Nat's ring with CHC or downgrade from Mempo. Ring will be very expensive, for which I would have to sell the Witching Hour. If I sell it, I dont have to swap Nat's chest out because I will be keeping 2P Innas anyway.

Any other suggestions for slots to upgrade?
by all means keep your current setup. just sell the wh if u cant upgrade your weapon, it will always be a downgrade as long as u dont have a good manticore.also to heavily upgrade your dps u just have to save up for a ~1200 dps 2soc one. it will be the highest upgrade you can get by far apart from perhaps a trifecta ring. i had the same problem as you until i got my manticore. every wh i ran through my calculator was a downgrade. if youve reached that point its time to save your gold for the really big guns

That's a very good point, I did not think you could perma life steal by continuously strafing.
Not to run out of hatred without punishment, I think you need a very high dps and most people who read this won't have enough gear for it.
Besides, do you really think Nightstalker has a significant impact on your discipline regeneration ?
I find it quite useless and I don't really see how getting high amount of CC can make a difference.
Also, have you considered using a soj ? It looks perfect on my demon hunter.

    After some further testing :
    - Rockets are cool , maybe better than demolition.
    - I sometimes run out of hatred without Punishment
    - Even with Vault and no night stalker I almost never run out of Discipline, and if I do I just have to stop vaulting for a while and it is ok.

nightstalker has a huge impact for me. i only run movspeedstrafe because its such smooth gameplay, i have 214k archerydps though so i can easily do mp1 with it. i briefly ran with soj but its just too much dpsloss for me so it doesnt make sense to use it. besides with nightstalker i dont need + max disc, the only i have is the +10 from the chest. i built my char around this: highest possible dps and max disc regeneration and i achieve that through high crit and things like andys visage. ofc potentially i can run out of hatred without punishment due to a streak of globes not dropping but that happens like once every 10 runs for me.

tl/dr: nightstalker with high enough crit = legacy nats and makes any +disc obsolete.

ofc its a downgrade. u dont have a manticore so your weapon is all physical damage which makes the benefit from elemental dmg huge. even with a manticore your innas might beat that WH

I cant imagine perma Shadow Power: Shadow Glide without either legacy 4P Nats or a lot of custom gear tailored for Strafe builds--pick up range, extra crit on strafe and similar

I tried Strafe build with Emberstrafe run but it did not work well for me. I was running out of hatred and I was significantly slower killing elites. Vengeance fixed the issue with hatred but it was further slowing me down because I have 0 pick up range on my gear.

This topic is a good discussion about alternative builds that can be beneficial and bring fresh air into rather boring still waters of DH builds.

a lot of crit and backup plan b is the answer. i have ~58% crit +7% strafecrit from natschest and nightstalker at that point is like legacy nats. you can watch my drifting shadow vod in the op where you can see me perma sprinting without legacy nats so it definitely is possible

i dont even use nats 4piece anymore i use an andys and still dont run out of disc thats how strong nightstalker+vengeance is

there is three options if you feel punishment is mandatory: your attackspeed is too high, your dmg is too low, or both. with the right setup you really dont need punishment and you can run drifting shadow on mp1 instead. i manage around 9min mp1 runs with drifting shadow which isnt so bad i think but i dont focus on plvling anymore anyways as i dont see the point in rushing it when im already at mfcap. also what perseu said is right. vault ta needs alot more disc than shadowpower runspeed at least if u dont have any ls or loh. shadowpower is superior in that way as itserves as our permadefense and our sprint all in one spell for 14 disc. not to mention as long as you are not interrupted strafing you only have to use a single shadowpower for a whole elitepack due to the way shadowpower works with channeled spells. i would just say overall strafe is very efficient both in resources and in the effort you as a player have to put in(you only need to press one button every 5 secs and plow through the map with one mousebutton pressed) also iirc i never said strafe was the fastest spec in the op, i just said its a funspec that makes leveling/farming much more bearable and i wanted to share it.

at 180k dps (with archery) and low ats, drifting shadow is perfectly viable on mp 0/1.
i can farm mp1 with this gear/build https://eu.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Tankor-2271/hero/231385 ezpz with perma shadowpower sprint and very rarely run out of resources

That's my build, I might try it with Smoke Screen but I cannot get used to running without Shadow Power I do not think.

steady aim doesnt make sense u have to use archery.
use this build http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/demon-hunter#eSXVhg!bXe!cZccZc has both shadow power and smoke screen
also your dps might be too low to run with the 100% movspeed straferune already so maybe try the strafe grenaderune

I'm actually really interested in playing this build but I've been having an insane amount of problems with it. I have about 112k DPS with the passives you mentioned and still can't run this without every phase beast pack literally 1 shotting me EVERY god damned time. I can't kill them before they get a hit on me.

    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Nez-1406/hero/1490302

That's my gear, any advice would be appreciated.

have you picked smoke screen - choking gas? it is the easiest countermeasure against elite packs that give you problems. just strafe into them use ss and strafe out of them(u can ss while strafing, it doesnt stop the strafe). rinse repeat. nightstalker should keep your disc high enough to always have enough to do this. hatred is a much bigger problem for strafe builds with manticores. it would help if you could post the exact build youve been using.

As some of you might know, we have a passive Talent that enhances Movspeed by 15% when at full hatred.
Monk has a Passive that generally increases Movspeed by 10%. The question is why does the DH passive count towards the Movspeed cap (puts me at 12%5 from 124%) while the Monk one does not ( puts me at 134%). Is there a reason for this or should we let Blizzard know about this as right now its a completely useless passive

I thought that having the inna's belt worked in conjunction with the elemental damage now? They didn't fix that problem? It's not that big of a deal though, the inna's I use could be replaced pretty easily.

no it works like this: if your weapon has an average of 1000dps and is pure physical damage innas will upgrade it to 1080dps. If your weapon has an average of 1000dps but half of its min max dmg comes from elemental innas will boost it to only 1040 dps. it always only boosts the raw physical part. also dont think you could replace innas that easily without significant dps losses as u also would lose 130 dex from the bonus. i have pretty much the same problem as i cant really upgrade anything atm. i sit at around 180k archery damage and my innas belt alone makes up for 35k dps right now. therefore ive been trying to search for witching hours but even ~70 dex 9ats 48 cd ones would have been a downgrade for me. same with manticores everything <1200dps 170 dex 2 sockets is almost no gain for me or a downgrade so replacing innas is actually not that easy :D
