posted a message on Class Restricted Loot

I like the smart loot at the 75/12.5/12.5 ratio. Even at this ratio I have found plenty of items for other classes on the PTR. I even found a crusader flail which i though was funny since I can't even play the crusader on the PTR.

But, i don't know if i like the "WIzard only drops for the Wizardspike" type of thing. I understand the reasoning behind it (kind of). But if I found this on another character, even if i could use, i would still be psyched to sent it over to my wiz and try it out. So i definitely don't wan't then going this way on any items. But the 75/12.5/12.5 is good with me.

posted a message on Release problems?

I think (and hope) it will go smoother than the initial D3 launch because of the pre-expansion patch.

From what i've seen in the PTR and from what they have said recently we will probably have all the RoS content downloaded and running on our PCs already from when the 2.0.1 patch went live... and then they will just activate/un-lock the content at Midnight (like #3 in OP's post). Maybe you won't even have to log out & back in.

This is just a guess / wishful thinking. But seems like something they could swing.

posted a message on Why the desire for a ladder system?
I like your ideas Vomica, i definitely would go along with those. I do believe we will eventually need a ladder or challenge type system. But instead of a D2 like system something different along those lines you mentioned would be perfect IMO. As far a paragon 2.0 begging for ladder... i'm not so sure that was the main intent. One of the major points about paragon 2.0 is that your progress can never end since there is no max level. Instead of reaching level 100 and being "done" there will always be another level up to strive for. So you could play forever with no reset and never really be "done". And if they did have weekly / monthly challenges/races that would help keep things interesting, even for the people that do manage to get to paragon 10000000 or whatever.

posted a message on Why the desire for a ladder system?

Personally I would much rather see a challenge type of system with seasons where you can Opt in with characters you already have and compete just for FUN.

But this challenge system would just be a fun way to compete in different aspects of the game (leveling / monsters killed / etc) and the reward we be something simple, like an achievement to say yippie look what i did! No special gear/legendaries or content (such as Ubers) that can only be accessed through this mode.

My biggest issue with D2 was that if you didn't decide to participate in the ladder system you could not make some of the best runewords, could not find some of the legendaries and could notparticipatein the Uber events.

This sucked for me because I always wanted to make a powerful high level 90's character in D2 but never could because i'd be reset before I could make it that far, and the fact that i just don't have enough time to invest into the game between my job and my life at home with my family. But of course I would want to play the ladder because i want a shot at the best stuff and i wanted to kill some Ubers (or at least try to)!.

I guess i just like slow and stead feeling of progress. I like to feel like i'm getting somewhere and that the progress i have made isn't going to be thrown down the drain at some point, otherwise I begin to loose interest. For example if my workplace all the sudden decided that every few years they are going to reset everyone back to base pay and base yearly vacation allowance and you were going to loose all progress you have made there, i would probably quit and find a new job! But if every year they had a little award ribbon for employee of the year or whatever i'd be fine with that.

So i'm not against ladders. I think they are great for the more competitive type players who have alot of time to invest. But i don't think a ladder or challenge type system should be the only place in the game where you can get certain items or participate in certain events (like ubers). If they kept the ladder system but your only reward was achievements or something of that sort, i'd be all for it.

Edit: just realized a bunch of my original post was cut out, sorry if it didn't make any sense. haha, my browser does not like dfans today.

I'm hoping this would be updated as well. ;-)

I would really like to see the new versions of the legendary bows like Windforce, Venom Husk, Raven's Wing. Someone has to have found one by now!

posted a message on "Advancing" Advanced Tooltips

I also wish there was an option to make the advanced tooltips for the skills actually list the real damage #s instead of percentages.

Kind of like D2's skills. (ex: Fireball -- does 3,878 damage instead of Fireball -- does 250% weapon damage)

As a long time D2 player this has always bugged me a bit.

Because sometimes it's hard to quickly tell whats better without breaking down and doing the math.

Ex: plain weapon with 1,372 damage - or a weapon with only1,178 damage but has +19% damage to whatever skill is you main damage dealer.

It would be nice to have a weapon equiped then be able to look down on your skill bar and see "ok, my fireball does 2,000 damage" now i switch to this other weapon with less base damage but has +fireballdmg% and/or +firedmg% and you look down at you skill bar and see "ok cool, fireball now does 2,300 damage, i'll go with this!"

Same goes for other gear like Frostburn gauntlets. Would be nice to know which one actually makes my blizzard do more damage, the Yellow gloves with Crit &Crit Damage or the Frostburns with +30% colddmg.

I'm not saying it should be changed to this as a standard.... I just wish there was an option for folks like me who would prefer to see it this way is all

posted a message on "Buying" Crafting Mats in RoS?

Just thought i'd throw in a pointer on obtaining common debris. Try the Halls of Agony or any other level with alot of Weapon/Armor racks, the racks pretty much always drop a white for me. Halls of Agony has quite a bit of racks so i stacked up a couple hundred pretty quick there.... then I blew them all on crafting recipes that were apparently bugged because they used all my mat'ls but didn't make an item. doh!

Edit: When i say a couple hundred, i mean a couple hundred common debris, you get more than 1 for each item salvaged, not sure what the number was though, maybe 6 per?

Yeah noticed the clan thing too. I found it hard to believe nobody would be on.

Running pretty good otherwise though. Found 2 of the new chests so far tonight, they are pretty cool.

posted a message on Arcane Dust -- PTR

I have been trying to do some crafting on the PTR and noticed some of the good crating recipes like Archon Gauntlets and Razorspikes require a "Arcane Dust" material. But I can't seem to find any of this stuff.

It says "obtained by salvaging a magic (blue) item", but all the blue items i have found just salvage into exquisite essence like before?

Anyone know what the deal with this is?

And yeah, Female DH got a new voice over.

Nice, look forward to trying it tonight. I may try it with Fan of Knives too (instead of Chakram) since you can cast FoK while strafeing. I think there was a new FoK rune that did some crazy 1200% DPS or something, but had a 15sec CD.

Do you know if the grenadier passive works with the grenades on the Strafe Demolition, and Cluster Arrow?... Or is it just standard grenades it works with?

Yeah DH is much better now. I really like the active/passive thing they did with the Pets. Makes them more fun to use then just cast once and forget it. I was using the Wolf last night, that short active buff you get (30% dmg boost for everyone in your group) is real sweet. Also I was stoked to see that Cluster arrow, Elemental arrow, and Multishot got some much need boosts. They actual kill things now! I'll have to try out Strafe tonight. Hopefully the queing isn't as bad as last night.

Also. Random other DH note. Did anyone else notice it sounds like the female DH's voice has changed? She sounds kinda butch now. lol

Maybe they still don't have a client specific for D3V with the RoS features, so they used what they have for RoS currently. And that's what caused the issues you described bernie. Btw, do those "bugs" get in the way of testing how things will affect D3V? Legitimate question, I have no idea if they do (for instance, are items lvl 61+ all you get from mobs?)
You get a mix of 60's and 61's... so you can equip about half of what drops. but of course the 61 stuff looks much better. Should be an easy fix for them, so im hanging on to a few 61 pieces i found today incase they hotfix. I think your right about the client. It seems like they just took the RoS Beta as-is and snipped out the Mysitic, ability to level 61-70, the new act, and adventure mode. All the new skills and 4th passive slot are there and you can look at them but they wont unlock since you cant level. Such a tease! haha. And since you can level you get stuck in this no paragon experience deal. So yeah it is getting in the way of testing some things. But don't get me wrong. I'm not complaining, i'm more that happy to test out an early version of the game, even if it is a bit buggy. I didn't expect a perfect game on a PTR.
