    Quote from Niddro

This is a case of a scammer tricking another scammer. Both are equally guilty, one undoubtedly more clever but nevertheless; close thread.

How is one labeled a scammer for looking to flip an item for profit? Many of us buy low and re-list on the AH on an every day basis.

The OP fell for a scam that prey on our nature to make a quick buck. Made a mistake, paid the price for it. Should Blizzard refund the gold? Of course not. However, to label the scam victim a "scammer" is going too far.

posted a message on reflect damage + health link
    Quote from Loroese

I mean for Archon beam. I guess I'm the only one seeing that happen. The only thing that I can think of to explain it is the 600 life per sec regen I have on my gear is putting me over the break even point single target, but when I hit multiple mobs that life regen stays the same, but the damage taken increases becaose of more mobs.

Since archon beam is AOE, I'm guessing what's happening is because you are doing more damage per second (i.e. from hitting 4-5 minions), more damage is reflected back to you than what your life regen covers. Against smaller mobs (1-2 minions), you're doing less overall damage per second and thus less damage is reflected back.

    If you are using
    Quote from Loroese

I've heard a few people mention that combo, and I've noticed it too. I don't know if it's a bug of just how the health link works, like you do x damage to one, but it only actually does x/3 damage and the other 2x/3 damage is just moved to the other mobs, or something. Then the damage reflect is still based on the X damage. At least, that's my guess.

Also, is it just me or does damage reflect seem to act a little different on groups than individual mobs? I swear that against 1-2 mobs, my health stays even or even goes up a little, but when there's a whole group, like 5 minions+rare elite, my health goes down pretty fast. It seems to me that if I break even against 1 I should break even against any number. Has anyone else seen that or is it just me?

Without understanding the full context, my guess is that you are probably using AOE skills that hit multiple mobs. For example, if you are using explosive blast and hit 5 monsters (vs. 2), you will be dealing more damage and thus have more damage reflected back.

Would require further exploring if you are using single-target skills though.

And there I was, wondering why some people said 1 all the time in the chat :P

Another tidbit: "1" is pronounced exactly the same as "E" in mandarin, so you often see it used by those with Chinese character hero names.

    Couldn't be more wrong.

There is a difference between the "Adds X% to [Element] Damage" (i.e. Triumvirate, Zuni Boots, Tal's Amulet), and "[Element] Skills Deal X% More Damage" (i.e. Tal Rasha's set bonus).

What you're describing applies only to the latter (i.e. increase damage for specific elemental skills, not reflected in DPS number), while the "Adds X% to [Element] Damage" applies to your physical weapon damage (i.e. reflected in DPS number, increases damage on all skills regardless of element).

That does not make me wrong at all. In both cases you described, dps ist showing *something* and doing *something* and those two aren't connected. No matter which scenario you chose, dps shows irrelevant number. It's very simple - one number cannot represent at the same time:
    1. elemental damage modified by a percentage
    2. elemental damage not modified by a percentage

It's nice to have one general indicator (as now), but we simply need more data to have accurate insight of what's being modified by what and how much damage it does. That's all I'm saying.

All due respect, I don't think you understand how the "Adds X% as [Element] Damage" affix works.

DPS shows your damage per second if auto-attacking, and the affix above increases your weapon damage, and thus increases the DPS shown.

    Quote from Baron_Underbheit

hmmmm.... it's virtual, as i stated before. +elemental damage works only if skill uses dat particular elemental type, so triumvirate will increase 6% on magic missile (arcane), but not on blizzard (ice). whole elemental thing serves exactly to no purpose, because total damage is wholly converted to a type specified by skill (can be seen easily, since none of the secondary effects are delivered) - posted by blizzard. somewhere. at some point of time.

so triumvirate, apart from 'virtual dps', increases only attacks/spell damage that convert to specific elemental-type damage - basically, damage is increased either by 6%, or nothing... making whole triumvirate or tal rasha thing pretty worthless, as 3% or 6% is same as +60 or +120 int points (for, say 2000 int wizard), only worse... nothing to hop about, anyway

    Couldn't be more wrong.

posted a message on I got scammed... Or Did I???
I've read about this scam before. It's not as known, as it's not used as commonly as scams involving trade windows and item swaps.

    1. Scammer puts own item on AH for an inflated price
    2. Scammer messages on Trade channels that he's willing to pay above inflated price (and provides stats similar to item)
    3. Someone decides to try to make a quick profit and buys item, and offers to sell to scammer
    4. Re-sale does not happen, and person is stuck with the item which he/she overpaid

It happens. Just learn from this and watch out for it in the future.

So, does the posion dmg 7-8% from zuni boots increase dmg done by my Firebomb?

It will increase your base weapon dmg (physical) by 7-8%, which will in turn increase the dmg done with any skill.

posted a message on Weird Tooltip Values - Anyone Else Experience?
I was looking to upgrade my weapon recently, and using the in-game tooltip to quickly compare my stat changes (life, damage, protection) to items available on the auction house.

For the damage changes, some weapons were showing up as green numbers but with a "negative" sign. These items were clearly damage boosts, so I'm a bit curious as to what's going on with the in-game calculations.

Has anyone else seen this, and know the reason for the inconsistency? Thanks for clarifying!

(PS. I can link a screenshot when I'm home this evening)
