posted a message on [Debate] Cheating in D3? What is cheating and what is not?

Faulty logic: I think it should be in the game, therefore I'm justified to use this software.

<sarcasm>Well, I think the game is broken since I have to play many hours, which I'm not able to, to be able to compete so I think there should be an option for offline automatic play... therefore I bot and it's totally fine!</sarcasm>

One thing we know for sure is, when/if blizz actually comes in with a ban wave and ban everyone that was using Thud, we'll have a new thread saying "but I wasn't using it as much as that guy.. he's much more worse than I..." *grabs popcorn*

Yea I'm right there with ya, so sick of working hard to be the best. I should totally just be the best already.

I do believe the point is that being the best should be determined by skill, not the amount of time one spends creating games.

ARPG, last I heard. Wrong genre. Go play FPS, RTS, MOBA if you want skill based.

posted a message on Quality of life improvement (console)

I know this is not the forum for reaching out to the dev team but I'd like to add a few QoF improvements (for PC atleast, not sure about console):

After ~1min in a bounty, you get the yellow arrow on your mini-map to indicate where the target is (whether it's a mob, shrine or dungeon entrance). Now this arrow needs some re-design in several ways.

    • If player A enters the map before player B, player A will get the arrow first. I think the timer shouldn't be individual but shared so att all players get the arrow at the same time. I mean, it's a coop game.
    • If player A gets close enough to the location indicated by the yellow arrow, it will go away. The yellow arrow will however also disappear for all the other players too even though they're not in close enough range..
    • The same behaviour can be seen for the arrow/indicator for when a rift guardian spawns. Less of a problem since you have the skull-indicator on the full-screen map still

posted a message on D3 second expansion - Return of the Amazon class talk

Since Blizzard didn't go with a Naga expansion for WoW, my only guess is that they saved it for the next Diablo 3 expansion. Introducing the new class: Naga priestess! ;)

I would like to see a demon-hybrid class. A demon, saved by Tyrael, but still tormented by its demonic herritage. Like the barb has Wrath of the Berserker, the demon class will have Demonic Rage where he transforms and goes ape-shit on the mobs =D

@Willemh, don't forget that in wow, Blizzard also have an economy to look after. It's an MMO and botting there actually has a greater impact on things than they do in D3. So yes, less effort is probably put into to counteract the botting in diablo but I still doubt it's an easy task to permanently keep bots out of the game.

You made a post earlier where you brainstormed a few measures one could take to identify a bot. In the same time I (or someone actually writing bots) could alter the code so that your software would not be able to detect the bot. There are ways that are super easy a bot, but those ways are also super easy to counteract by someone writing these scripts. I'm betting Blizzard doesn't want to have this endless chase and want to come up with a more permanent solution, i.e. Warden, that they keep improving. It's also important that Blizzard keeps the game playable, which means they can't have Warden checking on everything you do nor have in-game CAPTCHA that needs to be answered on a regular basis.

I'm sure if Blizzard would do a large banwave once a year the large majority of the community woudn't bother with botting. So this 'endless armsrace' of blizzard finding something and the bots adjusting to it really isnt that big of a deal as you make it sound, at best this armsrace would be very slow and happen once a year. They only need to do this stuff once a year orso to give the majority of the community a large incentive to stop botting. Searching for something to identify bot users once a year really doesnt sound like that big of a task.

I think we just have to agree to disagree, we won't see eye to eye on this topic. We're also both making assumptions which might or might not be true. Let's just hope that Blizzard figures something out.

posted a message on Get rid of seasons

when blizzard made a new game mode called seasons they thought they were doing something for us d3 player but really it all bullcrap. For people who play non seasons will understand we don't have much people for ns so we cant do much gr and bounties with good geared people because everyone is playing seasons. seasons is the same as non seasons with one little twist you got to from the beginning. I think it all kinda stupid really. so to really play this game you have play seasons even if you don't want to. If blizzard didn't make seasons and everyone was on the same playing field the game would be so much better and community would be much nicer.

Get rid of seasons it's a complete waste of time

    ty.

Season-mode is far from a new game mode. It started in 2003 with Diablo 2 only then is was called Ladder but works the same way. It's a popular game mode and it's not going anywhere. It's a big part of the Diablo franchise.

ITT people assume it's easy to detect 3rd party software but aren't able to offer their solutions. If you think it's easy, write the software yourself and prove it, make some big $$.

    Quote from Cerusgo-next

    Quote from Niddrogo-next

The main reason for people to run with BoTS, Zei and BoTT is that they run in groups. The movement impairment is probably added by another class in the group.

I play mostly solo but I still use the above mentioned gems since I rely on my templar to handle the slow. He's got the Bul-Katho's Wedding Band together with this skill Intimidate, which adds a slow to enemies around him. He also carries a thunderfury for some added slows. On top of this, he carries the Ess of Johan legendary amu that procs every now and then for additional grouping and slowing.

On higher solo grifts (currently 57) I use Sentries - Polar station, which helps me with both crowd control and reliable slowing.

If you choose to go with Iceblink, which is viable, I'd replace the Bane of the Stricken.

First of all It was really helpful.
Bul-Kathos with intimidate will boost my solo power with 1 pure dps gem. Makes sense :)
I'm full ancient typicial multishot geared dh. and im having some issues to reach grift 60 solo. Well it seems like im doin it wrong. Any chance to learn your full setup for solo grifts? I mean, ur gems, passives, cube items and complete set for your templar.
    Thank you!
If you're currently running near grift level 60, I doubt I can teach you anything since we're basically on the same spot =)
http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Niddro-2690/hero/64696633 (at the time of posting this link, the setup is for higher grift, solo play).
There you can see what my Templar is carrying. If I get into trouble with toughness, I'll switch the ring in the cube to Unity. In order to push higher grifts, you need to be a bit lucky with the mob density. You want as many mobs to be hit by your multishot as possible. One strategy is to take some risks (assuming softcore) and run/vault past some mobs and pull more. Then head back and kind of clump them together.
I've read and seen videos of people skipping elite packs but that requires some skills and luck since you need to outrun them and not get caught by the stuff you're running in to.

I agree that it's a shame that you got a 2 week ban for what you say you did, clearly not deserved. However, you're collateral damage because what Blizzard have done is to check the game logs to see who're involved. They made some effort to see who used this extensively and who didn't. I think it's reasonable that they didn't permabanned EVERYONE and quite impressed that they even had 3 categories of ppl involvment with this exploit.

I do NOT think it's reasonable to ask Blizzard to dig even deeper into the logs to see exactly by how much did this affect this particular userĀ“s progress in the game. Let this be a lesson, if you ever return to the game, don't go sniffing around exploits you hear about, not even to try them "just for fun" since Blizzard obviously will not take the time to separate the "just for fun/giggles/laughs"-people from the ones that "only did it for 2/3 hours".

Just my 12 dollars and 13 cents...

    @Willemh

I can easily list 15 ways of detecting if someone is botting for Blizzard, with a few days work and a patch they could detect all with 100% catch rate I'm sure.

Not to sound harsh but do you have programming experience and know the "can" and "cannot" of game development and bot scripting? You make is sound very easy but in fact it isn't.

Most people with programming experience has on at least one occasion tried to program a smaller game (or even bigger) and had to deal with ppl trying to bend the rules and crack your game. These ppl could testify that it's not as easy as you'd think.

What 15 things sould Blizzard look out for and how do they detect this?
