posted a message on QuinFans ???

First off, I want to thank you all for keeping this discussion mostly civil, most of the team (myself included) were afraid this thread would go a lot worse.

Anyways, here's our (the content team's) official statement on the matter. There's quite a bit to this issue, but I'll try to summarize our reasoning for this decision as best I can.

Why have a distinct section at all?

We have always featured builds from various community members on our front page, no matter how well known their creators are. Yes, putting them up in the navigation bar is new, but we didn't think it was going to be that important to some of you. We thought that compiling various builds which use a unified presentation into one guide for all classes was a great idea and wanted to keep that visible throughout the season. And we picked the builds of one of the community's most well established members to do it.

Another issue is that the rating system of our build tool has some problems. Currently, new and improved builds that are submitted some time into the season have no real chance to ever make it into the front page widget. This means that the builds there can become outdated without most users noticing. We've been discussing this issue for a while now and there is no simple fix to it. So, we hope to keep the guide in the nav bar up-to-date, in part as a workaround for this.

    Why Quin69?

Yes, Quin currently has a deal with Curse Voice and DiabloFans is part of the Curse network. However, the S6 guides in the nav bar are not part of that deal and Quin didn't ask us for this either. We approached him in the matter. Did him having that deal influence the decision to choose him for that build guide? Sure, but it was far from the only factor that did. Whether you like his personality or not, there is no denying that Quin has done a lot for the Diablo 3 community and is one of its most outstanding members. As such, we don't think anyone can argue that he doesn't deserve his name up there.

We are completely aware that having a streamer's name up there promotes their channel, which translates to more views, subscribers, and thus money. As such, it is not surprising that some others would like their name up there, too.

    What now?

While Quin has said he wouldn't mind us removing the guide from the nav bar, we'll keep the builds up there for now. We may decide to change the name and intro around or remove them from the nav bar, should the need for that arise later on. Why would that happen? As you all know, the optimal builds haven't necessarily been found yet. If some of the builds thus become outdated but aren't updated anymore, we may update the build list ourselves with newer builds from other community members. In a way, this has already happened as the Demon Hunter builds have been replaced by two builds from philos. Just note that it was Quin who asked us to make that change.

We have also told Quin about your concerns regarding the unanswered questions and comments regarding inaccuracies on some of the builds and he will be looking into those.

Of course, just like in the past, we will continue to feature builds from other community members, established ones and unknown ones, on our front page as the Season goes on.

    Oh, and Drahque?

We'd like to remind you that you were featured on our front page at the start of Season 5, and on April 29th, the very start of this season. I'm sure both of these gave you a nice boost in twitch viewership.

We'd also like you to know that there are a hand full of accounts with ... interesting behavior. They all have the same login pattern, are all accessed via proxy and all of them upvoted your builds (and only yours) and downvoted many other (previously well received) builds at the very beginning of the season. This gave your builds a nice little head start which (as experience shows) translates well into much greater popularity some days later.

I'll leave the thread open for the time being, as I think that the topic at hand is worthy of discussion, so long as everyone stays civil.

But there's no point in any (thinly) veiled personal attacks. From either side of the argument.

I play on EU so I didn't have the chance to try it yet, but I doubt it. They weren't in the PTR patch notes either and don't show up in the interface, but they did work. Think of them as "secret" recipes.

    posted a message on 2.3 Roundup - Kanai's Cube

    • Kanai's Cube can be obtained in a sub-zone of the Ruins of Sescheron in Act III.
      • Be sure to speak to Zoltun Kulle in town first, as he sends you on the quest for the Cube.
    • It can extract Legendary Powers for you to use without the item, reforge Legendaries, and much more.
    • To use it, you need old as well as new crafting materials, now found in each Act's Bounty Caches.

    The new Legendary Crafting Materials,

found inside Horadric Caches of Act I - V, respectively.

    Extracting Legendary Powers

    • Extracting a Legendary Power allows you to use it without actually equipping the corresponding item.
    • The process destroys the Legendary item it was extracted from.
    • After extracting a Power, it can be equipped in one of three slots in the Cube's UI:
      • The weapon slot can hold one Power from One-hand weapons, Two-hand weapons, or any off-hand item like Shields, Quivers, Sources, and Mojos.
      • The armor slot can hold one Power from any armor slot: Head, Shoulder, Chest, Hands, Wrists, Waist, Legs, and Feet.
      • The jewelry slot can hold one Power from either a Ring or an Amulet.
      • Once extracted, a Power will always be available to equip free of charge, so changing between Powers is not an issue.
      • Legendary Powers will always be extracted at maximum potency, no matter the original roll on the item.
    • Once you extract a Power, it is available for all your characters in the same game mode.
    • You can not equip Powers from items your character couldn't normally use.
    • You can not extract Legacy Powers from Legacy items, nor those from the Hellfire items.
    • Cost
      • 1 Legendary Item with a Special (orange) Power
      • 1 of each Act's new Bounty Cache Material
      • 5 Death's Breaths

Kanai's Cube - Legendary Power UI
Three activated Powers in the bottom left, extracted Powers on the right.

    Additional Functionality

    • Reforge a Legendary
      • Reforging a Legendary basically drops a new Legendary of the same type.
      • The new item can be Ancient or not, independent of the old item.
      • Cost
        • 1 Legendary item
        • 5 of each Act's new Bounty Cache Material
        • 50 Forgotten Souls
    • Upgrade a Rare Item
      • Creates a random Legendary item of the same base type (2h Sword, Helmet, etc.) as the Rare item.
      • The new item may be Ancient, think of it as rolling a specific item type from Kadala with added weapon type distinction.
      • Cost
        • Level 70 equippable Rare item
        • 25 Death's Breaths
        • 50 Reusable Parts
        • 50 Arcane Dust
        • 50 Veiled Crystals
    • Convert Set Item
      • Creates a randomized different item of the same Set.
      • The new item can NOT be Ancient, even if the original item was Ancient.

        • 10 Death's Breaths
        • 10 Forgotten Souls

      • Cost
        • 1 equippable Item
        • 1 Gem of Ease, Rank 25 or above
    • Convert Gems
      • Converts 9 Gems from one type to another, determined by the corresponding Essence.
      • Cost
        • Any 9 Gems
        • 1 Essence of desired Gem type (sold by Squirt the Peddler in Act II for 500,000 Gold)
    • Convert Crafting Materials
      • Converts 100 crafting materials from one rarity to another, determined by the item's rarity.
      • Cost
        • 100 Reusable Parts or 100 Arcane Dust or 100 Veiled Crystals
        • 1 Normal, Magic, or Rare equippable item
        • 1 Death's Breath
    • The following recipes are hidden and do not appear in the Cube's UI.

      • Opens a portal to Greed's Domain, the Treasure Goblin world.
      • Cost
        • 1 Puzzle Ring
    • Portal to Not a Cow Level
      • Opens a portal to Not a Cow Level, the 2015 April Fool's event area.
      • Cost
        • 1 Bovine Bardiche
    • Note that all these recipes also work if you use larger stacks of the required materials.
      • The remaining items will simply be returned to your inventory.

The Nephalem, Kanai's Cube, and Zoltun Kulle's Spirit in Caldeum.

    Beyond Gameplay

    • In lore, Kanai's Cube was a predecessor of the Horadric Cube.
      • It was designed by Zoltun Kulle, but deemed too powerful and dangerous to use.
      • Thus, it was locked away in the Barbarian capital of Sescheron, where the Barbarians kept it safe for generations.
    • The Cube is a tribute to Kevin Kanai Griffith, a member of the Diablo Art team, who sadly passed away in 2014.
