posted a message on Combination Strike - A Monkey Idea...
    Background:
Being disappointed with the lack of build diversity within the top tier monks, a fellow monk friend and I decided to do some brainstorming. While we came up with a lot of dumb ideas, one good one (we think it's good anyways) came out.

    Idea:
The premise is using the 'Combination Strike' passive as a means to further customize your toon.
Since each of our primary skills have 3 hits, I propose that rather than have the Combination Strike act as a damage booster, allow it to let you pick 3 primary skill runes and combine it into 1 skill (1 button). It fits within the moniker as well as promotes build diversity based on preferred play styles. This also forces you to make decisions upon what passives to take.

    Example:
Thunderclap + Spirited Salvo + Keen Eye
You'd teleport to the first target on the first hit, gain the spirit generating bonus on the second, and gain the defensive buff on the third. Of course, each hit will take the animation of the rune it was taken.

I'm not a game programmer and I put my hands up and say I have no idea how difficult this is to implement. There definitely would be balancing issues but that can be discussed. I'll be ecstatic if I could get your thoughts... (two people is hard to brainstorm)

    Hi all,

First post but i would really love some advice. First thing's first:

I would love to increase my DPS but at the same time maintain the survivability that I have currently. I find it quite the luxury not having to break battle very often. There are some hard hitting elites (namely Tremors) that give me a difficult time. Well anyways, let me know what you like or dislike and how i can improve. Greatly appreciated!

    Thanks again!

    Pudding,

I would suggest sacrificing some vitality for more dex/crit chance/crit dmg. You appear to have a very defensive build. Your resist seem good. You should try a dual weapon build and use resolve instead of transendence as a passive.

So here's my build. what I need to verify is my crit hit chance, I believe I have more than whats listed in profile. I'm able to farm act3, but I require mantra of evasion and deadly reach. I still die alot, so i'm open to suggestions. Preferrably on increasing DPS, Thanks!!!

    synB33R:

I find that your DPS is perfectly adequate to farm A3. Especially, running with Overawe and Wrath. For survivability, I think your Res and Armor is just slightly shy of what I would feel comfortable. Try shooting for ~650 Res and 6K armor (that's when I found things a bit more bearable in A3). Your HP could use a bit more work (maybe to around 40-50k). My rule of thumb is being able survive 3 heavy hits. Why 3? Because elite packs come in 3's and I want to make sure I can survive if I'm surrounded and they all hit me at 1 time.

I also want to take this time to weigh in on the whole DPS vs Defense argument. Just because the paper doll DPS is high doesn't necessarily mean that your DPM (damage per minute) is that high. Not to discount DPS or anything (DPS is great and extremely useful) but if you have to break combat every other second, that means your DPS is halved. Defense is a great way to round out that "burst damage output" to more of a consistent "constant damage output". For example I found that at my current defense, while farming A3, I can always survive in a pack jussssst enough for Serenity CD to finish.

    Thoughts anyone?
