posted a message on Requesting Build + Gear critique
First things first, here's the WD in question: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/edlike-1346/hero/1430258

    Hi guys,

Haven't been playing much lately but then got back in to it pretty heavy. I have a pretty decent set of gear and have been experimenting with skills builds.

First question: What gear should I upgrade to push my DPS to the next level? I'm sitting on about 500m so I have a little to spend

Second: What skills do you think I should use? I've been using spiders for the VQ mana sustain and pretty much have 0 mana problems with low IAS and zuni 4p spamming bears/bats. I think I'm going to opt for the cloud of bats rune since it seems pretty popular (I have been using plague bats). Other than that spirit walk and soul harvest seem kind of mandatory.

More: What passives are you using? Do you use garg? Do you take VQ? What do you use to keep it up, and what rune do you use if you use spiders as I do?

I've begun farming for the BoA recipes and all that. Any feedback is appreciated.

    Thank you!

I basically snagged all cheap versions of my 4pc zuni (minus the off-hand). over time i will work on upgrading the set pieces themselves to better versions (crit helm, crit ring, AR boots, etc.) but IMO it's smarter to drop less money to get the huge upgrade of acquiring multiple set pieces than it is to save up for one really good set piece.

25k hp and 300 all res? Just reading that gave me cancer. My WD has 4th highest all res world-wide (http://www.diablopro...rating.stat_res , Mortis) and I cant simply imagine even starting to play inferno with such low survivability, not even act 1, and you are wondering why you are getting one shot by Rakanoth? That rly made my day.
Being afraid of act 1 with that survivability is a joke. And yes, I play hc too.

just a case of someone more concerned with their own ego than with the conversation

lol. how about offering some advice instead of acting like an ass, posting your diabloprogress resistance rank (which nobody cares about), and failing to realize he is playing softcore

i believe big bad voodoo is the one big group spell we bring to the table.

I dont really think you need to rely on garg and dogs as much in groups as you will have the other players keeping the mobs busy (hopefully a monk in there somewhere?)

posted a message on I have a geared wiz, what build could I make on a WD with same set?
After leveling a WD on release I switched to Wiz due to WD's issues. Now that they are buffed I have made WD my main again. I basically just threw all my gear over to my WD from my wiz and it works brilliantly.

I'm a little glass cannon-y (very low resists, but 37k health) but with really high dps i have been having a ball (no trouble clearing the whole game including a4, bosses can be a little tricky with this build though)

    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/edlike-1346/hero/1430258

Corpse spiders can adapt to the situation you want them most for. I use blazing spiders because they crit for like 60k and keep VQ rolling, and i just use bats to drain my mana. I have used both medusa spiders (slow) and widowmakers (mana) and they are both fun. A lot of people use darts but i find the AI of the spiders too good to pass up as I can chuck them from around the corner, etc.

I use dire bats for a mana sink, but i have seen people use zombie charger with either bears or exploding zombie.

I have absolutely fallen in love with the vengeful spirit ruin of soul harvest. It hits like a truck and it's really satisfying to watch 20 mobs die at once when you soul harvest on them. I use a lot of potions in this build but clear very fast. Spirit vessel is there for the reduced cd on horrify, soul harvest, and spirit walk (and the occasional 'oh shit' moment). Grasp is too good now as well with the damage buff (still using unbreakable grasp). I basically open with a grasp, spirit walk in->soul harvest->walk out+horrify for armor->get spiders up->spam bats. I have seen dire bats crit for up to 700k in the gear i'm currently in, but the average is around 300-400 I would say.

    *FACEPAAALLM*

Okay, it's official. Diablo fans posts the worst possible things they can on their home page.

This post is awful in so many ways.

And this particular guy is not just an idiot, but also an asshole.

First of all, this build type has been around forever, and theres 10,000 versions of it floating around the internet, and you literally may have picked the worst possibl one diablofans.

Cold Blooded does NOT affect everything. It affects EVERY SPELL IF THE ENEMY IS CHILLED. And its not confrmed or denied if its a bug, perhaps just bad wording.

This is the first and most obvious BLUNDER with this post. GOD HOW OBVIOUS IS THIS *FACEPALM* YES IM MAD BRO.

Haha, the proof this particular guy from the quote cited EVEN SAYS THAT BLATENTLY.

Next, "Entry Level Melee Wizard." An entry level melee wizard is not going to be able to take the constant 40k+ hits from Act3 and late Act2 Inferno. FORCE ARMOR. IDIOT.

Don't agree with your way of saying most of it, but most of it is true.

First, this is not an "Entry Level Wizard" spec. You need insane amounts of gear that will total in the 30+ million range. Most people hit 60 with less than a million. A million if they've been saving.

Second, relying on gearing around a possible Bug is not a good idea. Of course you'll get some extra progression while you can, but as soon as it's nerfed you have a gear/talent set that are useless. *See the people that kept IAS gear, and then complained when they couldn't clear as much post-nerf*

The spec/gear is useful, and competitive, but please post factual items and not this marketing trash of it being an "Entry Level" Spec for 1-2 million in gear.

not including my weapon i dropped 6-8mil max on the gear that took me through a4 and diablo. weapon cost 8m

His boots are worth 5 times my entire gear set combined

Man this spec requires some serious cash to throw down on gear and the damage isn't amazing either. Looks pretty OP though. I would have to say the tornado barb is like a million times more ridiculous though. If something needs a nerf, it should be them not us.

5-10 mil is not that much to invest in a set that can carry you through the whole game on inferno

Cold Blooded is currently broken in that it boosts all damage, so this is a flat 20% increase to you most of the time.

Can anyone else confirm, first time I heard about this and I tried it out. I didnt see any "flat out" damage increase what-so-ever.

It's easily tested within a few minutes in game lol; also search the official forums. :)

Edlike, congrats on your progress! You are ahead of me at this point, still progressing in act 3 lol (barely any time to play with work, etc). I am a bit curious about your great success with such low AP on hit however (may mean that it's a viable option to have this stat coming from just the helmet so it is possible to get a more powerful wand for someone like me who is not bankrolling from RMAH). Would you mind posting a sshot listing all of your stats so that I can compare with my own (our defenses are very close)?

Here is a screen comp of my stats, i dont see it showing AP on crit in the character sheet so i just ss'd my helm and weapon and life on hit gear so you can see i'm not rocking a source.

I assume the more your crit % goes up the less relative amount of AP on crit you need. If you are closer to 20% rather than 30% crit you might need the additional AP on crit to sustain. if you want to see more of my gear beyond that its pretty standard, at least 50 AR on everything, prioritizing armor, and really searching for lots of crit (gloves, rings, shield, helm). i socketed vitality because i was feeling a little low with like 18k hp even with all those resists. let me know if there's any other info i can supply.

these are my stats WITH prismatic up. i use blur/cold blooded/evocation

I beat inferno diablo tonight with a melee build derived from this post.

I used this build's skill set up but replaced teleport with venom hydra and EB with time warp. I used cold snap on nova for the boss.

I use crit mass/cold blooded/evocation most of the time, and used these passives for diablo as well. I find astral presence unnecessary at this gear level.

I was able to easily chain DS/time warp/nova for the whole fight. I stood in fire. I stood in cages. Even with ds down I was able to survive cages. During p2 I ran away from the adds until they despawned... This was after many unsuccesssful attempts to tank them down while remaining stationary. The clones hit ridiculously hard no matter how much armor and resistance you have, and remain incredibly mobile. I found myself lucky if I was survived the first clone when I attempted to kill them, but I easily survived all 3 clones the first time I tried running until they despawned.

I use a weapon (socketed/850 dps/300 int) from my "regular" dps build (66-71k dps with very little resist) which i socket with a 500 life on hit gem for my tank build (it usually has an emerald socketed)

Not counting my weapon or gem I have spent 5-6 million on the gear for the set I beat diablo in. Factor in weapon and gem (perfect star) and you can probably tack on another 10m, but I see no reason why you wouldn't be able to do it with much lower dps as long as you had a socket and a 300 life on hit gem. I found the 9 ap on crit return from my helm alone enough to sustain the casting requirements of the build without also going for ap on crit on my weapon.

    stats:
    crit: ~30
    ap on crit: 9
    resist: 1000-1100 with primsatic
    hp: 27k
    dps: 15k
    armor: ~7500 buffed
    life on hit: ~1350

for packs/farming in a3 I use the build from this post exactly (with fracture on tele)

I can also post screenshot of gear if you'd like

This is a good guide with a comprehensive description, I totally agree with all the stat priority and speccing info.
