And you can always turn them in at gamestop or an ebay site.

GameStop? Maybe it's just my area, but I've never known a GameStop (or even Wal-Mart, and they take anything) to take used PC games for trade/credit. They've let you exchange for the same title, but not a new game.

I don't get what the big whine about dedicated server is all about, you pay for the game.
    Not some half decent mods.

I stated this a few pages back, but one of the "big whines" has to do with competitive gaming.

The big deal is that a lack of dedicated servers is having a negative impact on competitive gaming. There are, of course, other reasons, and some good general overviews can be found here and here.

I recommend reading those links. It may give you some insight as to why this is such a big deal for PC users.

As far as modding goes, that's just kind of a given when it comes to PC games. I'll admit that we're a picky bunch, but we pretty much have to be. Unlike console users, PC users can't return a game if they don't like it; we can't trade our games in for the newest and hottest titles out there, so rather than play the same game for years on end, we turn to modding.

Take a look at Diablo, for example. Mods like Median XL and Eastern Sun are incredibly popular because they present new ways to play the game. It's still Diablo, but it's something different than doing thousands of Baal runs at end-game.

Keep going, Infinity Ward. Keep gnawing on the hands that fed and nurtured you in your early years.

Whatever. I'll just stick with Valve and DICE for my FPS gaming needs.

thats something else that pisses me right off! Devs making once big PC franchises more console friendly. Now I have nothing against consoles many of my favorite games ever are on consoles but so many great PC games lately have been dumbed down so much for consoles. The best example of this is easily oblivion. Morrowind was so obviously a PC game brought over to the xbox but Oblivion was obviously a game developed to have a far more simple interface for a controller...uhhh Theres a ton more examples but thats the first one that comes to my mind :P

I recently purchased Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway for my fiance - XBox controls were a part of the keyboard configuration. Now, I know that you can use a controller for PC gaming, but at first glance, that just seems like lazy programming to me.

As far as making games more console friendly, I don't think this has ever been truthier than now with the Call of Duty series. Just look at the mess that Modern Warfare 2 has been making.

    What?

But... but... it's Rosa. Besides, she was wearing questionable armor before it was cool.

Also, she's a white mage, but still... yeah, I know. :cute:

One thing that really ticks me off about gaming today(trust me theres a lot of other things but most have been mentioned) Is when a developer fucking tacks on multiplayer or even in some cases single player to sell a game.... Its like every game nowadays NEEDS a shitty multiplayer component to be worthy nowadays. For some reason that drives me crazy, I just wish devs would either Focus strictly on multiplayer or just single player for there products unless the intention is to have both of them intertwined well like say in warcraft or diablo. It would probably make most games a little longer and probably have more detail and balance or anything really if games were more focused nowadays.... Well thats the end of my rant :P

You just reminded me of something that cheeses me off about gaming, so thanks. ^_^

I wish that developers would stop giving PC gamers crappy ports of console games. It wasn't so bad before, but now it's gotten to the point of ridiculous.

Giant breasts / asses. You don't need all that, just used to lure horny teenagers (I'm looking at you Ninja Gaiden Sigma ).

    This, damn it.

MMORPGs are notorious for this. I am so sick of playing a female character only to find out that the higher level they get, the less they wear. Sorry, but I like my character actually wearing armor when fighting the bad guys, and not prancing around in a chain bikini and spiked heel boots.

I think the only MMO I've played that doesn't do this is Lord of the Rings Online. I was pleasantly surprised to find that female characters actually wore appropriate attire.

No, but it lengthens the enjoyment you get from said game ^_^

Well, yes and no. Like SNowfreak said, it depends on the genre.

Take a game like Portal, for instance. The game was only about four hours long (if that), but for the game type, it was perfect; if the game were any longer, the gameplay itself would have gotten stale.

Then again, Portal was relatively cheap from what I remember, so... I guess I have no point. ^_^

I'm going to hang out and wait for the Great Pumpkin. I know he'll come because I have the most sincere pumpkin patch, and he respects sincerity.

The game looks pretty nice so far. I'm impressed that it's not yet another fantasy MMO with Elves prancing around everywhere.

My only concern is that it sounds like the gameplay is going to be similar to Darkfall... and that's not something I'm too crazy about.

To be honest, I haven't actually played any Call of Duty aside of the first two. I have, however, sat with my fiance while he played through Call of Duty 4 on PC, and I will say that the single player was amazing - the multiplayer, not so much. It was so obvious that the game was just a console port. Modern Warfare 2 now looks like it'll be the same thing (great single player, bad multiplayer).

Hopefully B:BC2 will live up to expectations. If not, well... that's going to suck.

Well, I think all the article was trying to point out was that controllers and keyboards are pretty much equal - both have their strengths and weaknesses. All it really comes down to is what the player is comfortable with.

I think Modern Warfare 2 will do well on console, but I'm not really sure about PC. Like I said before, Infinity Ward basically slapped PC gamers in the face with this announcement - most people I know that have cancelled their MW2 preorders are now, like you, putting that money toward Battlefield: Bad Company 2. I can't say that I blame them.
