People used to play (and still do) pure glass cannon style, so its viable. You just need to be REALLY careful. I'm comfortable saying that I don't have the concentration to play that style.

I'd say getting a moderate amount of AR so you at least survive some hits is good. Don't sacrifice too much of your dps though, otherwise it becomes actually harder to survive.

I also run MS for AOE and impale for burst. The beauty of NT was that it fulfilled both AOE and burst in a single skill, thus freeing one skill slot for other useful things. Personally, though, I've always hated the skill, even before the nerf. Sure It was an excellent skill, but I hated how slow and rather silly it looked.

For those switching acts around for farming (I do it every now and then to not get burn out), you might want to try using multishot in act 1/act 2. It clears easy mobs faster than NT. No need to lure them into a straight line to shoot. Just run in, press fire, done. I just love the simplicity.

Now for act 3/4, you can use what you're comfortable with.

In a way, I feel this is warranted because NT was so much better than the other Elemental Arrow skills. I do wish they buff some other skills to give us some clue as to which way to go though.

Going for more survivability doesn't seem a likely route for DHs. I prefer to see them glass cannons. I believe someone already try to go the tanky route, stacking vit/res up a ridiculous amount, only to find that you still get pretty much one shotted. The only noticable difference is that you don't do jack shit in terms of damage, rendering it totally useless. We've been given smokescreen for a reason!

    Nam'sayin?!

That does not need to be the case. You can get a healthy amount of vit/res (600-ish) with a decent amount of DPS. You then still play like a glass cannon but enjoy the benefit of not getting one-shot by everything. Try it out!

Of course, you need more gold investment, but just be patient and treat it as the end goal to all the farming.

With regards to attack speed, I have enough crit gears to make up for the lack of DPS, but the thing that worries me is that the game might be less fun firing weapons that shoot soooooo slow.

I'm also considering alternate farming between Act 2 and Act 3 with the new loot drop rate. I can clear Act 2 (Kulle -> Belial) in about 15-20 mins now thanks to the vit/res (take that invisible snake suckers!). Might be worth it to make the grind a little more bearable.

Yes, resistance can get you thru act 2 but as soon as you hit act 3....they are pointless...i was at about 500 resist all (30k hp) on my DH, around 45kdps(no sharpshooter) and was still getting 1 shot by just about everything. Until they smooth the damage out so it isnt, turn a corner and die, resistance and vitality for DH will be pointless past act 2.

That's a little weird. I just hit 500 resist and 30k HP myself (around 60k dps without SS), and I find I'm surviving a lot of things now. Fireballs from winged moloks, soul lasher in the keeps (the later ones still one-shot me), and spear throws being the most notable. They put me in deep red HP, but I survive most of the time. This made TONS of difference.

Act 4 and whimsyshire on the other hand, those are just nasty (as they should be).

Where I'm playing, I usually get pretty bad latency (300-400ms). I used to die all the time to many enemies that I should have been able to dodge (spears, nagas, fireballs etc). However, since adding some resistances and vitality, I've been having a much better time with the game. The ability to survive that ONE hit is so very very important (to me at least). If you can survive one attack, you can smoke screen, run away, re-position, and fight again immediately. I feel the upcoming patch will boost this playstyle as well. Its just a more forgiving gameplay experience.

The key is proper balance between your DPS and defense..... and gold. Lots of gold. You could easily boost your resistance a substantial amount for a few millions though.
