Well actually...I don't think that's fair at all. D3 encourages people to start many characters, evidenced mainly by the fact that D3 has a shared stash. The devs WANT people to have lots of characters on their account, they've made it way easier for one of your characters to transfer an item to another. Thus...a person puts the huge amount of time into a batch of characters to get them all to Paragon Level 100 before the updates (admittedly, an enormous task), they've earned all that Paragon XP. And when the updates come, even a Paragon 1000 may not have more than a couple hundred total Paragon levels, based on the exact XP curve of Paragon 2.0.
Yeah, but now u are talking about the ppl that has the choice to lvl more characters to p100 and all the effort they put into it.
But many ppl have played their p100 for just as much or more, b4 blizz told anything about how they are planning to do the convertion from paragon 1.0 to 2.0.
Sure, now ppl have the information and can act accordingly, so from that point on, the problem becomes ppl feeling forced into playing other classes or start lvl'ing up new characters of the same class.
But i dont see at any point where blizz wanted it to be a bad idea to play the character ppl spend many hours getting up to p100, which is what it has become now.
I would feel just as bad for the person missing out on a lot of exp cuz of his time spend on his p100, then the person who made several p100's, if the experience was capped at 322mill.

Starting from 0 isn't losing the work you put into your P100 Barb, your P100 Barb is just hanging out until he's ready to be used again. That's all. If you really feel like you're "losing out", then yeah, don't play much til the expansion.
I'm still playing pretty regularly as I want the most Paragon XP I can accumulate (without absolutely killing myself). As much as I think Loot 2.0 is urgently important, I'm actually looking forward to Paragon 2.0 more, and the possibilites Paragon Points hold for my lower Plvl characters.
That's part of why I recommended you level some alt Barbs. You may see leveling alts as "losing" time or work you put into your P100 Barb, but the more XP you gain could mean more Paragon Points for your main to allocate when Paragon 2.0 goes live. Playing your P100 Barb WILL get you more high end drops, that's a fact and given. And arguably, it's very fun to get high end drops. But high end drops are the only benefit right now. And like I said, if drops aren't always that great in regard to quality or upgrades, you're kinda wasting your time, especially since loot will be getting a decent overhaul with the updates.
As for your claim that P100 is 322million? I think that might be inaccurate. My Monk just got to Plvl 73, and it took around 146million XP to get there, so...number might be off on that.
How is starting from 0 not loosing out on the work i put into getting to p100 in the first place?
now i get my 300+mill transfered to paragon 2.0, if it started from 0, then i would get 0 transfered to paragon 2.0.
Thats a difference of 300+mill exp, i would call that loosing out.
Just the same as others loosing even more, but it seems that many ppl have the tendency to say, well if it wasnt recorded it didnt happen..
Which is what i really dont understand.. its pretty much the same as running a marathon, but at the finishline realising that the chip recording your time an distance didnt use more than one digit and therefor stopped at 9km. Theres no doubt that full marathon was completed, but credit was only given for 9 of the 42km.
And no, in dont play my barb much now, but that has nothing to do with loosing out on paragon experince for paragon 2,0. Thats more a matter of loot 1.0 not being very good imo. The only thing the kept me playing after p40 (and i had a long break around that time, and came back again after the monster density patch) was getting to p100, cuz i really didnt feel very well reward for all my time put into it. I mean 500+hours and not even halfway to what is the possible dps obtainable.
But that a whole other issue :)
Hence the reason that i dont plan on playing much until the pre patch!
But thats probably Blizzards plan, cuz now im playing wow again, which makes more money for them :P
edit : just read the wrong coloumn from the exp chart :P http://www.diablowiki.net/Paragon
So all exp for a p100 is aprox 10 billion
But that said, my previous examples works just fine with the number 322mill swapped out with 10billion.
It still takes about 4 characters that are in the 50's to make 1 p100, or 3 p64.
