    Quote from Lucidity

Wow. I've never seen so many faulty assumptions in one post. You're right -- I don't have your gear; I'd wager I have better. I have a bit less dps than you, but i'm still over 100k without sharpshooter, and voluntarily took a dps hit for 4 piece nats. If all i cared about was the dps number, i could just toss my nats set and go with zunimazas/andariels/beckons and my dps# could easily be > than yours. I've also seen your "demonstration" and i'm not impressed. I did that run an hour ago in 11 minutes even with 2 deaths. Permanent tactical advantage does wonders for cutting down on clear times.

You prefer using covering fire -- thats great. Doesn't change the fact that covering fire doesn't hold a candle to hungering arrow. Me "presuming" hungering arrow will pierce to targets behind isn't an outrageous presumption, the same as you will "presume" there are 3 mobs on the screen for you to hit with covering fire. I will admit, i tried covering fire before the last patch and was quite pleased with it. But most of that came from the fact that i was able to make trick shots from relative safety behind certain obstacles and still hit mobs out of line of site that i could not hit with hungering arrow. As far as im concerned, once they fixed covering fire's line of site exploit, the discussion was over -- hungering was the clear winner.

And as to your ignorance on hatred generation mechanics, I'm sorry but a demon hunter not knowing this is like a barbarian not knowing that fury degenerates. This isn't something that requires testing or playing close attention to the game, it's something that any demon hunter with basic observation and reasoning skills can gather as they level up starting from level 1. The fact that you've leveled to 60 and collected the gear you have without even knowing the most basic mechanics of our class makes me skeptical of your judgment and understanding of your class.

CF can still shoot through some walls/terrain like in the Keeps in Act III. :)

    +107 DEX
    +134 VIT
    +27 LIGHTNING RESIST
    +438 LIFE ON HIT
    +58 CRIT DMG

Prices on AH seem a bit ourageous. I saw a similar one with more LOH+defensive stat with a 21.5M bid.
http://imgur.com/doM62 the Reduct range damage prob made it lot more valauble in addition to the higher Str/Dex stat. I figure my amulet with vitality would add a lot of value as well.

i just bought black bone arrow quiver ( i think thats what its called) i take a 990 dps loss b/c i lost 4% IAS but i gained 2k vit, .5% crit, and 5% increased damage against elites, is the dps loss worth it?

my dps was at 59k (no ss) and now 58K

How much IAS do you have on the quiver? I wouldn't take anything below 14% unless I am stacking a ton of IAS on my other gear already. Post stats on your current quiver. If it was cheap, it may be worth it, at best, its a side grade. 5% increase vs elite is pretty nice. I would take that personally since I don't use hungering arrow or elemental arrow.

posted a message on Question about Ball Lightning

If you shoot BL in the direction you are kiting instead of at them, the mobs will take almost the entire duration full of ticks. It's the equivalent of a rain storm following overhead as you drive on the road. It also wrecks the shit out of champ packs.

What I miss about (not using) NT, and what BL also offer is that you can shoot like 10x of those before actually aggroing the elite/champion pack. The same with bosses. Not sure how many you can get off now with the IAS nerf, but man, those were the good ole days.

Really simple: can one shot from Ball Lightning possibly strike the same opponent more than once? Trying to decide between it and Impale for use at the moment.

Ball lightning does 77.5% weapon damage and can/does hit the target twice for the full tooltip amount. It's strength is its rather large AOE range and lack of needing to aim accurately.

Ok Zealot thanks. Since your mf set is better now do you run in it full time when you are farming act I or do you still gear swap? I am wondering if running in it full time has any benefits such as upping drops from white mobs/item racks or if there really is no difference whether your in it full time or not. Thanks for your help thus far.

I run in it full time in ACT I other than for Pony level (5x stack pre Pony lvl+DPS gear). You can find rares and legendaries/set off trash. I've gotten a few off them, but on one hand, I've gotten a few off elite packs and bosses as well.

As a side note, CF also generates hatred without hitting a target.

So? All of the abilities under the Primary branch generate hatred without hitting a target. Also, what you're missing about Spray of Teeth is that a critical hit explodes, hitting the same target a second time, and if the arrow also penetrates it is likely to come back around and strike a 3rd time. The skill is amazing with high crit chance.

My mistake, I thought the primaries worked differently.

However, regarding spray of teeth, what YOU are missing is that it is irrelevant how many times a shot pierces a target if the target is already dead after the first shot. Like I mentioned in my earlier post, the DPS of the character is determinative of whether you want a higher DPS or a screen-clearing move.

This is so nonsensical it's hard to respond to.

    1) If everything dies in 1 crit in inferno, you must be playing act 1. in act 3 and beyond, while some mobs do die in 1 crit, there are many that will not, even with your gear.

    2) Even if they die in 1 crit, the pierce will allow the arrow to continue further and hit subsequent mobs behind. Damage on covering fire is limited to 3 mobs maximum.

    3) How the hell did you get to as far as you are without realizing that all generators generate hatred regardless of whether they hit or not? I figured this out before the game even released and even people who don't know jack about the game before buying it will realize this by level 2. Did you buy your character?

Evasire Fire w/ Cover fire and Hungering Arrow are both viable. They both have pros and cons. And depending on what gear you have (50% crit chance), one might be better than the other, although both benefit from higher crit chance obviously. HA can be seeking if you shoot it in the general area. With spray of teeth, it can hit the target twice in addition to being an AOE explosion. I find that puncture or devouring is better for single target (bosses) tho. Evasive fire will hit any 3 target on the screen so there isn't a whole lot of aiming either, and since the projectile is not rendered, I feel visually it has a faster hit time. When working as intended, evasive fire's backflip can save you. When it isn't, it can be the cause of your death (firing it while cornered isn't good!!) as my video has shown.

TL;DR Evasive Fire will hit up to 3 targets guaranteed, whereas HA has the chance to proc.

Hey guys I just have a quick question. I am wondering how you guys farm with regards to magic find. Do you guys just swap as much as you can in before you kill and elite/boss or do you guys run in full time magic find set for item farming? I currently have 310% MF in my set but I swap in on kills because the actual set is not very good. Some items are decent but most are just crappy low dex high mf pieces so running full time in it would be hard. I think I only have 9k health in my MF set. I am wondering if I should just keep swapping or if I should try to maybe lower my Magic Find total and just find some better gear with magic find so I can run with it full time. Let me know what you guys think is the best option and what you have had success with.

They are looking to do some crazy stuff with MF so I would hold out on any expensive purchase. DPS+MF set is a premium that you may not want to invest a whole lot in. With that said, I do have a seperate MF/DPS set that gives me 40k DPS and about 200%+ MF. I mainly use this in ACT I since its a total faceroll.

When I first started playing, I had a MF set with very little DPS, so it was a pain in the ass for that last hit. Than I got a MF/DPS set that was pretty decent, but I found that my DPS potential was capped. This damage went down obviously with the IAS nerf. The most effective way to do is to have your DPS set, and swap to your MF/DPS set for the last few hits. It's a bit dumb gameplay, I manually click gearswap (its actually pretty easy to do), but other people use things like AutoIT to gearswap.

Can't contribute much to playstyle discussion as it's late, however I'll post my gear and build for solo play.

With Scoundrel using 3% crit passive:
    107.8k dps (Non SS)
    50% crit chance
    262% crit damage.
    2169 dexterity
    1.57 APS.
    27.3k hp
191 All Resistance (This amount of hp and res does actually let me take hits without dying, while not sacrificing any dps)

Hungering Arrow (Spray of Teeth) - Such an absurdly powerful skill when you have high crit chance, I would NEVER use Evasive Fire over it, despite my Natalya's chest giving +damage to it.
Cluster Arrow (Cluster Bombs) - Way more than double the damage of Loaded for Bear, but slightly harder to aim. Perfectly positioned shots can do more than 2 million damage when they crit, and it's not hard to position them when using Caltrops to slow. Takes some time to learn, but with practice I don't see how Loaded for Bear is even remotely comparable.
Caltrops (Jagged Spikes) - Great for kiting elites, and setting up Cluster Bombs as mentioned above. The DPS from them is nice, as is the Life on Hit co-efficient when I'm using a 1h LoH crossbow to regen on reflectors.
Smoke Screen (Lingering Fog) - Obvious.
    Vault (Acrobatics) - Obvious.
Preparation (Backup Plan) - Most prep runes are pretty good.

    Archery
    Steady Aim
Grenadier - Allows a 3 cluster burst rather than a 2 cluster burst, and the death effect is amazing. It means you never have to deal with the pain of a phasebeast pack teleporting and 1 shotting you when they're on 5% hp, only to regen when you return. Highest crit I've had with it is 720k.

    Gear pic:

If you have any queries about my build, post here and I'll try to answer them tomorrow.
May aswell advertise while I'm here: I'm quitting D3 soon due to moving to Japan for a year, so I'm selling my gear as a pack, and I'd much prefer it to be done on RMAH/Paypal rather than IGG! Feel free to drop me an offer.

    -Keitaru

I've tried Cluster Bombs, and much like Grenades, maybe its the animation, but it just feels awkward and slow to use. I think it drops about 6 bombs in a straight line? But it looks like those bombs will always start about 15-20 yds away from my hero which is just too damn close. Granted you are using that in conjunction with caltrope which makes aiming it faster. I guess you have to kite elite/rare packs anyway so it may work for you. I just like the instant gratification of loaded w/ bears since my APS is now 1.49. It's a very fast projectile!!

And I agree the Evasive Fire/Cover Fire animation needs work. It is lackluster in that department by far. I think because its seeking there was laziness getting 3 projectiles to shoot out and hit the 3 different targets at the exact same time. It may very well work to our advantage tho since they don't physically drawn on screen.

Not saying thay anyone here sucks, but 80k damage is nothing. The most I've seen no SS, is 190k post 1.0.3. And high damage doesn't make you good, it just means you either got a lucky ass drop or you buy all your money. 190k dps would require the top end of gear which is around 1billion gold I would think for everything to be the best if not more...

I don't think anyone here was saying that... :)

Does the % to holy damage only go towards any holy damage on your weapon, or does it add a % to your total damage?

I don't know if any Blues have touched on the subject of X% damaged added to Y-Element as of yet. I wouldn't be surprise if it was "bugged" and patched to work as the description state in the future. However, with the backlash to all the nerfs (esp since we're doing with RMAH), it may very well stay the way it is. Quite a gamble if you want to purchase them, but they are pretty good items/sets. A flat dps increase is always good.

Glass cannon DH is mainstream... not sure what you're looking at.

This. Building a tanky DH requires time and effort. No offense to Leirissa by any means but a glasscannon DH build is what most people go for. I know, because it's what I still somewhat have. I've been building a tanky set for awhile. I won't buy anything unless it is either the same dps or better and has good allres/vit/life% on it. I wind up having to spend 15-20m for each piece of gear I get just so it is worth it.

Edit: I think the general consensus is that GC has always been the mainstream build.

I've tried the "tanky" (as well as actual face-tanking) build and its just not worth it. For me to loose SS for GLoom only to get slaughtered on jailer/waller/molten/nightmare isn't worth taking 3 hits. I have a monk that I am gearing, and maybe I will steal some of her gear if I really need it, but so far, I am happy with the speed I am killing things at as a GC. I lose way too much DPS at this moment (because my tanky pieces lack a lot of crit chance+crit dmg). It just cost way too much to purchase DPS+tanky unless you have unlimited funds (aka, buying gold).

I think Blizz should just implement a "Cannot be 1-shot" rule. If an ability (melee/range/etc) that would otherwise kill you, you are left with 1hp. This cannot occur more than once every 60 seconds. (This does not work with boss abiltiies.)

Okay since I basically got called out due to the fact I post quite a bit in the DH forum and in many topics here are some video of my gameplay. I go for a slow weapon w/ lots of crit and crit damage. Unfortunately I don't have a socket so it's no where near the damage potential. I could very well pick and choose what to record, but just started recording last night to show some example. Videos are very lackluster but since you asked here you go.

As you can see here, I actually died twice, and evasive fire was fail all over. Probably should of died more than twice but anyways...Also I lose bout 30 FPS recording so theres a bit of game lag for me :(

    Phase beast champion pack.

I could record a full clear of Cydea/Azmodan although Cydea isn't really worth the trouble anymore since spider will instagib me 20 yds away.

Basically any slow moving target is a GG Snorefest ZZZz...fast teleporting or fast jailing will give me a bit more trouble than most.
