The enchanting system is fine, and is IMO a nice bit of game design... weapon sockets, not so much. I was surprised when they left things as-is for RoS, but I'm still hopeful that they'll either nerf the hell out of emeralds or just cave in and give us a suitably expensive 'socket this' option.

As a long-term BNet user, my account has definitely been flagged for good drops (I confirmed this with REDACTED yesterday, but they also said REDACTED), but when I'm grinding Torment I on an underpowered character that takes 30 minutes+ to clear a rift, the drops are still pretty low. I can't imagine how bad they'd be if REDACTED. Normally, I'd recommend patience, playing for fun, and picking a difficulty level you can still clear at a good speed... also, the rate at which you get upgrades obviously depends on your currently power level and BNet REDACTEDstatus, so your expectations regarding good loot will need to factor those things in. It's a shame you're one of the many people Blizzard has deliberately picked to have a bad D3 experience, but REDACTED until they REDACTED. USER ACCOUNT SUSPENDED: SECURITY BREACH.

The answer to this type of question is always "Yes, the RNG hates you".

... except that one time in Angband where the RNG actually did have a bug in it.

It's only as good or bad as you let it affect your game. Personally, i like knowing what the most efficient way is to do something. I dont do it most of the time cause it is boring, but knowledge is good. How you spend your game time is still up to you in the end.
That really only applies to solo games, not multiplayer, which is where the whole "It doesn't affect you" thing falls down. Once a certain mindset reaches saturation, it can make it tricky to stick to your preferred style in a multiplayer setting. For example, I just hit 70 with a Crusader that had crappy gear, and wanted to do some adventure mode at normal difficulty to gear up... but since split-farming has become so ubiquitous, I actually couldn't find a normal adventure-mode game that wasn't a group of overgeared players trying to knock out bounties as fast as possible. I even got kicked from two games for taking too long. That's far from ideal.

Captain, sensors indicate a weakening of the dimensional boundaries between this site and The Battlenet Zone. We're already detecting BNet toxins oozing into some of our threads. Structural integrity is unaffected, but that crap is starting to stink the place up.

I actually think they need to re-introduce NV stacks (although with not as much +stuff per stack, but with a higher limit), and have them only accrued outside of bounty/rift zones. Currently, there's absolutely no reason to stick around once the rift boss has died, or the bounties are done. Much as I like adventure mode's added incentives, sometimes I just want to mess around in the big wide world, grinding away on the same instance with no particular goal in mind (or maybe chasing rare spawns for achievements)... at the moment, that's empirically the worst option, which is kind of a bummer. If you want go-go-go gameplay, that's there, but ATM there's no room for a good, long farming session.

I feel that it should not be able to give you two versions (exact or slightly different numbers) of the same affix. For example, 2 hatred generation affixes should not result on an enchant. There should be an option of your current and two different new affixes. If I am rolling for a socket and keep getting the hatred generation and cost reduction as my new options, over and over again, then I am fine with that.

I am at 800k+ on my windforce, rolling for a socket. I am about to give up and just start working on another bow I have that is a 2% or so decrease in damage, just so I can attempt for a socket for a lot cheaper.
OTOH, imagine if you were looking for CHD and rolled it twice... you now get to pick the highest value :) Having said that, double-rolling is a crappy user experience, and trivial to eliminate... I'd like to see Blizzard getting rid of it, and the socket situation is a whole other thing which contributes to the problem... but this thread is too toxic to have a rational discussion about improving enchanting.

    I like toast.

ITT, people complain that a random process doesn't give them what they want when they expect it without knowing exactly how long it took or if their expectations are reasonable.

It's another one of those cases where the median is kinda bad, but the extremes are much worse. I like the idea of gearing up a character by playing it, but I like the practice of tearing through mobs with by best char and handing out good gear to my alts. IMO, smart loot does that well enough, especially given that each mainstat is shared by two classes already. It'd be nice if it was possible to nudge it down, but I suspect that's another case of not being able to please all the people all the time.

Fun fact: I found a socketed STR/VIT Scourge on my monk. The system works :)

If Blizzard wants me to test and gather data samples they can give me a testing account with unlimited mats and gold. Due to the mats and gold required no one is going to be a able to make a good enough to sample size to satisfy the "RNG is RNG" crowd that is basically taking over the thread. You're using more words, but that is essentially what you are saying. Also as in my above anecdote, bugs don't always affect everyone.
Except that you're already using enchanting, along with pretty much everyone else here. If you jot down your results, and a bunch of other people jot down their results, it's easy get to a useful sample size pretty damn quickly. On top of that, you can also identify outliers with increasing confidence, which turn could point to an actual bug. OTOH, if you don't record your actual results, and just make forum posts about your bad luck, it's impossible to tell if there's an actual problem, and what it might be, and all we're left with is the self same kvetching about RNG that's been going on since the first time anyone ever gambled.

It's kind of a shame you didn't record your data so we could build up a usefully large sample.

In my experience, the main reason "RNG is RNG" crops up is because people almost invariably post their bad luck (or good luck) in the form of an anecdote, and which makes it impossible to tell what role confirmation bias, clustering illusions and other common fallacies had in the narrative.

Also, remember that if there are, e.g. 10 affixes, then the odds of both re-roll options being the same unwanted affix is about one in 11, which is fairly frequent.

posted a message on One Week Later: My Impressions and Frustrations
CHD is fine, it's the amount of CHD on emeralds that's the problem. It occurs to me, though, that all Blizzard needs to do is make them have half the effect unless they're in a 2h weapon being used without an offhand (to cover DH and Crusader issues). Sockets as a mats-free mystic re-roll is a good idea, but until the the gems match the corresponding affix range, they're going to cause problems.

I also agree that rifts need to be made more rewarding... I'd really like to see the bosses have a chance to drop piles of crafting mats, a randomly chosen legendary mat (because I'm already sick of farming specific drops), etc. Maybe also bump up the amount of shards they drop. Maybe even give them a difficulty-based change to drop uber-boss keys, which let you summon an uber rift-boss even 20 rifts or so.

I say this mainly because bounties have, IMO, had a real chilling effect on all other types of farming... keys, uniques, even plain old XP grinding... all come a distant second to chasing bounties. I'd like to see some kind of reward structure added so that just bouncing around the map doing whatever you like doesn't feel so horribly sub-optimal. e.g. even if it's just adding reasonably good chance for elites in a non-bounty zone to drop shards and rift keys.
