Can you also link your battle.net profile and tell me where you spent your paragon points? I can take a look at it when I get home from work later today.

And it works like a charm, wish it had set bonuses but I suppose we can add that ourselves. :D
That's the idea. There's too many set bonuses to make an easy fix so the simplest solution is to just add the set bonus yourself. I like to add them as gems so it's easy to turn off. The only downside is if you forget to turn the gem off, it makes new items look very appealing...

You can easily calculate max/min crits for skills using weapon damage and dps calculations.

Damage per minute = DPS * 60 seconds per minute, but not sure why you want that as opposed to just using DPS.

Burst damage is more complicated and involves a time frame, skill selection/combination, and some other factors.

Actual skill dps = char sheet dps * skill weapon damage for skills that you can spam, such as channeled skills. For skills you only use so many times the damage is more like: skill damage * DPS / APS * average casts per second

In short, the information is out there but some of the calculations are just complex and/or just too variable to be of much use. You might have 1 dps against singles but likely a different dps against 2 mobs, and different still against 3 with a non-linear scaling.

The spreadsheet requires permission to access. If you prefer, you are welcome to pm me a link with approved access.

Off the top of my head, make sure the paragon points line up and you have the correct buffs activated. If you have 1 280 gem and 1 220, that's an average of 250, so just put 250 with 2 sockets. It's not perfect but it's simple enough of a fix that I didn't think it was worth changing to a slot by slot basis.

Thanks for the link. I never bookmarked it for some reason and it keeps falling back a few pages so I never remember to look for it. My thoughts were to use it with mine since it seems to compliment mine fairly well, though there is likely some overlap.

As Bagstone posted, I have a spreadsheet that calculates dps and EHP very accurately. The main limitations are that it is primarily based on a single skill and a single element, and for wizards. It doesn't calculate effective dps based on actual skills or combinations of skills, nor does it compute total CD reduction. It also doesn't compute cost reduction because the actual calculation for channeled skills is not completely accurately known. There is a spreadsheet floating around the official forums somewhere in the wizard section that does attempt to calculate some of those things, though I haven't spent any time with it myself. It was written by dolynick and so far seems pretty good.

    Quote from CheehC

Is this mathematically stupid or not..

What if I didn’t care tostack crit chance and crit damage as the main things?

What if I instead focused on having my items roll +% elemental damage, +%skill Damage, +Damage, +% Damage on weapons and put a Ruby in Weapon Socket...

My thinking is that let say I wanted to make a Meteor Build (Comet Rune)- I want to synergise with the Tal Rasha 4 piece bonus!

It does about 390% weapon damage when cast.

Now let’s say I have of +100%cold damage and +30% Meteor skill damage

Here is where I am no maths expert... but would that make the skill do 390 x 2.0 x 1.3= 1014% weapon damage.
Now the higher my weapon damage from the stats on my weapon, offhand, rings, amulet and Ruby in Weapon would also help a lot.
So.. am I crazy to think that this is a better idea to prioritise rather than always trying to have at least 40% crit and 400% crit damage?
Thanks to all the smart people who can put me straight :)
There's a few reasons why no one really does that.

    1) rings and gloves only have so many dps stats, so it's pretty easy to grab CC+CD on those, and still have room for either cost reduction or cooldown reduction, or even IAS if you want more dps, depending on build. OH also only has so many options, and you can get Int, Skill damage, CC, and cost reduction on it. If you're thinking of dropping CC for vit, I recommend getting your vit on another piece instead. If you want APoC, you can get that instead of cost reduction, most likely.

    2) +damage% on weapons only rolls up to 10% now, instead of the 50% before 2.0. If you just get CC on rings, gloves, and OH, chances are CD gem will be considerably better than a ruby in weapon.

    3) Damage values give exponential gain. The more you have of one stat, the more dps you gain from the others. Individual stats are mostly linear by themselves. For example, if you have 100k APS and 0 IAS, every % of IAS gives you 1k DPS. If you add CC+CD and raise your dps to 120k, now every IAS% gives you 1.2k dps.

In the end, the reason people don't just stack those damage types is because they can stack those AND CC+CD (though usually +damage on jewelery is dropped since you get so much more dps from CC or CD). If you want to see how it works out for the gear level you have, you can use my spreadsheet to compare similar gear sets and just play around with the individual stats.

I remember back in 2009 or 2010, there was a warlock spreadsheet for WoW that was able to collected data directly from the armory. You are obviously much better and knowledgeable of excel that I am because I tried to make a spreadsheet a couple of years back and gave up. Is this something that you can do? It would be an amazing.
It's not something I know how to do or plan to do. In theory it should be possible since other places did so (d3progress, d3up, etc).

It looks like IAS on weapons isn't computed correctly. In 'Equipped Calculations' cell D25, the formula is:

    =ROUND((D3-D5)/(1+D4/100),1)*(1+D4/100)+0.03*'Equipped Items'!$U$23+D5

I think it should actually be something like:

    =D3*(1 + D4/100) + 0.03*'Equipped Items'!$U$23 + D5
It should be calculated correctly. It rounds the APS you list based on the IAS you give to calculate the base APS of the weapon, then applies the weapon IAS to give the exact weapon speed.

I just made a minor update to the spreadsheet:

    • Updated Elite damage bonus calculation to be consistent with changes in game. It now is just an additve modifier.
    • Changed fill for cells C12 and C13 since they should remain blank

I think I found your problem. C12 and C13 should be blank since those +dmg spots are meant for other slots. All the weapon damage is included in C9 and C10. That drops your unbuffed to 609079 unbuffed and 700411 with GC. If your in game dps is 700411, you likely still have GC as a passive.

If you still have any issues, let me know.

    @Sanak

I had to request access to view the spreadsheet. I'll take a look at it when I can.

    @Mitzgar

If you don't dual wield, you can use it for a barb to an extent. The DPS will work if you put your Str value in the Intellect spot, but the EHP won't quite work out that way. The EHP will work out fine if you enter int where you're supposed to and str where you're supposed to, though the numbers might be slightly off because of the difference in base Int and Str.

If you dual wield, then the spreadsheet just won't work right since I haven't gotten around to trying to get it to work with DW. I played a barb a bit but didn't really enjoy it as much as my wiz, so it's not likely that I'll enable DW anytime soon either.

The good news is that if you dual wield, you can still get some information out of the spreadsheet using single weapon mode. If you're trying to see if CC or CD is better for your DPS, that relationship will be independent of your actual weapon damage, provided your CC and CD are correct. You can also compare CC/CD/Elemental/Skill damage items in the same relative manner since those are all multiplicative with whatever your weapon dps is.

Otherwise, you're welcome to try editing the calculations in the spreadsheet to suite your needs as a barb.

Whatever you do, don't take the previous posters advice on picking up "Armor" rolls. All resist and armor are identical stats with one exception, All resist is 10x greater than armor.

    I.E.

380 armor = 38 All resist. The ratio is 10:1. The only time you should use an armor roll is if you're a monk using OWE. You can't roll All Resist as a primary if you have a single resist as a secondary. So if you're a monk, the best mitigation is Armor roll + single resist. Any other circumstance AR is always the better stat.

Also, when people say they have 1 million DPS, they generally mean without buffs, they are usually talking about profile page. I was 1,080,000.00, now I'm 875k, but the difference between my 1 million dps kit and my 875k kit, is that my 875k kit has 51% to lightning skill damage, which brings my real effective flat un buffed DPS to 1.3 million [which is obviously greater than 1 million] even though it only shows at 875k. However, with Laws of Valor, I'm still over a million in my inventory paper sheet -- this puts my actual in game effective damage to around 1.5 million dps.

So you don't need as much toughness as most people think as long as you have a solid way to replenish your health quickly. You only need just enough toughness to soak a couple hard hits and enough healing to fill up before you die. It's a balancing game.
Sorry but no, I'm right, and I've done the math to be sure I'm right. Armor:AR is not 10:1 for virtually any wizards. It is 10:1 either when you have 0 of each, or a ratio of 10:1 exactly. Otherwise, if you stack one over the other, the ratio changes because of how the mitigation calculation works.

For example, with my current stats (7867 Armor, 1365 AR buffed, with AW), 6.657 Armor = 1 AR. If I had 500 less armor and 85 more AR (like if I switched an armor roll to an AR roll), the ratio would be 5.96, so 90 AR would be the same as about 540 Armor, meaning the Armor roll on chest or Pants would be the same as an AR roll. In other words, the more you stack one stat, the better the other stat becomes. The 300-350 armor rolls are virtually never better than AR rolls though, but some slots can roll up to 540 or 590 armor.

The actual comparison between Armor and AR depends heavily on your current stats and what skills you use, but it's virtually never the 10:1 ratio people blindly quote. If you want to see more of that for yourself including how it applies to your stats and buffs, you can check out my spreadsheet.
