posted a message on DiabloCraft - Character Planner Spreadsheet
    hey guys,
you should check this out! Zealot did a great job on this.
you get all sort of information you normal don't know (true dps, total damage reduction, Effective Health etc)
and it makes it really easy to compare new potential item upgrades.
take 5min time to add your characters items and buffs and profit!

posted a message on Inferno Demon Hunter Build - Stun Lock
this does look cool! well basically it is just a normal crit heavy build, using a other rune for Elemental Arrow.
but still its nice to see 1h crossbows in use. speaking of "in use" would be really nice to see it in action!
    Quote from Rodvik

Also in the screenshot it shows me using Steady Aim, I have switched that over to Sharpshooter because the main goal of this build is to crit as much as possible keeping the Elites stun locked so they can't do anything.
if you're intrested in how much sharpshooter is worth, have a look here
    https://docs.google....V4bFg0VXc#gid=1
but if we assume you're standing on your caltrops most of the time, sharpshooter will be giving you about 3.4% crit, resulting in about 4% more damage.
    having that, is only 65.9 / 62.5 = 1.0544 => 5.4% more stuns on average.
that vs 20% more damage results in
SS: 5.4% more stuns vs 15.4% more damage (Steady Aim)
I would take the damage, cause shorter fighs => less stuns "necessairy" you'll probably go better with Steady Aim. but its your choice :-)

posted a message on How much is Sharpshooter worth to me? This spreadsheet tells you
    pleased to help :-)
I know it's nothing relevant, it's just one of those things I always wanted to know...

    I updated the calculator!
If you want to, you can also edit your Critical Damage from your charscreen and your DPS wihtout Sharpshooter, then it will tell you how much DPS you gain from the Buff (in the average case) and how much percental Damage increase the buff is to you. this makes it more easily comparable with the other damage buffs (Archery, Steady Aim)

this buff is actually stronger than Archery and Steady Aim in some cases! if you're a fresh lvl 60, have got a little bit of Critical Damage but low crit and a slow Weapon it can be better!

edit: edited first post to reflect the changes

    working again.
anoying that people keep on changing/deleting stuff :-(
if you see that the googledocs spreadsheet doesn't seem to be working, please post here, so I can take care of it.
    thanks

ps: nice to see that it wasn't a pure waste of time, it's being used quite often :-)

whops, by reverting it back to the working state, I undid the hotfix (Sharpshooter always grants 3% crit, this you may have missed if you used it in the last few minutes)

here you may download the spreadsheet if the googledocs one has been mucked up again

well that's the problem with such an open document... I reverted it back into a usable state.
Now it should work again, and yes, just enter your crit and attackspeed (eg 30 and 1.52)
if anyone knows a better way to do this (public document, which is changeable, but not destroyable...) please let me know.
As far as I know you can not restrict acces by cells, thats the problem...

ah thanks draco! never noticed that ^^
hotfixed that (by adding +3% to your base for calculation, and adding +3% at the end)
    thanks!

posted a message on How much is Sharpshooter worth to me? This spreadsheet tells you
hey, I was wondering how much critical strike chance Sharpshooter was granting me.
Sure, it's a guaranteed crit for the opening burst, but after that? Is it still usefull?
Want to know how much DPS you gain from the buff? How much overall damage increase it grants?

If someone else wants to know, you may use the spreadsheet. I hope I did it right.
The only thing you have to do is edit your Attack Speed and your Critival Strike Chance, then it should tell you an approximation of your average Critical Strike Chance gained from the talent.
If you want to, you can also edit your Critical Damage (from the charscreen) and your DPS without Sharpshooter, then it will tell you your absolute and percental DPS increase aswell.

    free for all to use:
    https://docs.google....V4bFg0VXc#gid=1

if it doesn't work (i.e. if someone changed it without permission) you can download it here:
    https://dl.dropbox.c...shootercalc.xls

keep in mind its an approximation. because I'm to lazy to make it really big, it analyzes the first 33 shots you fire off straight after a critical hit. Thats sufficient as long as you dont go much higher than about attackspeed 4.0 with absolutly no ciritical strike on gear. but thats unrealistic anyway. (not so much itembudget available, and time spent kiting etc)

if it doesnt work, or there's something wrong, please let me know. and please only edit the 2 green and 2 orange cells.
    thanks

posted a message on How much damage HA acutally does (the math)
blizz has gotten much better in term of tooltipps, so I hope I did unterstand the stuff the way it is ingame.
if you compare to other tooltipps, e.g. the Cinder Arrow rune explicitly says "additional 35% weapon dmg" so its clear they mean the WD, and that it's additional und not multiplicative.
DA rune says "increases the damage of the arrow by 70%" which I understand as a increase in total dmg of the shot, not additive but multiplicative (and not Weapon Damage). So if Blizz is consistent in terms of tooltipp notation, it should be correct. lets hope :-/

edit: ah sorry didn't find the other post, I'll give it a shot. thanks for the link!

posted a message on How much damage HA acutally does (the math)
its nice to know HA does 115% weapon damage, but what about the fact that it sometime pierces and hits again?
and then theres the rune for additional pierces or the devouring rune for additional damage on pierces, which should we chose? (if you just want to see the weapondmg percentage, just scroll to the bottom)

lets have a look at HA without runes. it has a 35% chance to pierce. the great thing is, that that second can pierce aswell and hit a third time, and so on. it can even pierce 10 times, but the chances for that to happen are low. (because for that to happen, the first has to pierce AND the second has to pierce AND the third has to pierce etc...)
    spoken in numbers: 100% * 100% + 100% * 35% + 100% * 35% * 35% + 100% * 35%* 35%* 35% etc.
(the first number (the 100%) is the damage done (not weapondmg! just an average hit))
this can be expressed and calculated as a so called infinte sum:
    sum(1^k * 0.35^k), k = 0 to infinity
result of this sum is about 1.5385. that means, the average HA(without runes) does 153,85% damage on average (compared to the first hit)

Puncturing Arrow rune increases the chance to 50%.
    sum(1^k * 0.5^k), k = 0 to infinity == 2
so this rune brings the average damage of HA from ~154% to 200% ! which is quite nice.

Devouring Arrow rune increases the damage of the piercing shots by 70%.
    spoken in numbers: 100% * 100% + 100% * 170% * 35% + 170% * 170% * 35% * 35% + 170% * 170% * 170% * 35% * 35% * 35% etc...
    sum( 1.7^k * 0.35^k ) = sum ( 0.595^k ), k = 0 to infinity == 2.46914... => 247% damage!

Now we can easily compare the 2 runes. Devouring rune is clearly stronger! (by about 24%)
But as the chance for a Devouring to occur is smaller (35% vs 50% of puncturing) it is obvious that it is less reliable, but does average out on doing more damage by a fair margin.
it's like having another critical hit mechanic, makes our dmg very bursty and random...

    Average Weapon Damage dealt (rounded):
    Hungering wihtout rune : 115% WD * 1.54 = 177% Weapon Damage
    Hungering with PA: 115% WD * 2 = 230% Weapon Damage
    Hungering with DA: 115% WD * 2.47 = 284% Weapon Damage

Now everyone should see why HA + Devouring is such a great ability. Hell, it's even one of our best singletargert dmg abilities, allthough it's a generator! Not to talk about "autoaim" ...

    hope I could help.
    greez edi
