Going the other route than the previous posts... I am a huge fan of Vince Flynn. Spy novels with a little government thrown in. His first book was really good and he has only recently slowed down due to cancer(unfortunately). Start with the book Term Limits, it is the only one where he has no free standing main character. If you like that his other 11 books follow a "super" spy who basically just kills everything in his path.

The original Bourne trilogy(Robert Ludlum) is very good, but written in the 70's and at times delving too far into the politics/psychology.

On the fantasyish/sci-fi side I would recommend what is known as the Thrawn Trilogy. If you liked teh original Star Wars movies it is a must read. It is a 3 set of books from a brilliant author and in my opinion would have been the best books made into movies if ever Lucas wanted to put out Episodes VII-IX.

Silly as it sounds, for an easy read that keeps you engaged, Hunger Games. The first two books are really the best of the two but the third does tie up some loose ends, and ends well. Very easy reads and about 70% of the chapters leave you hanging and wanting to progress to the next.

Lastly, Michael Crichton. Any of his books besides the last two released after his death, are brilliant. E.R. is his brainchild. Movies that didn't do his books justice include: Jurassic Park(s), Congo, The 13th Warrior, Sphere, Andromeda Strain, etc. (http://bestsellers.about.com/od/bookfilmlistsbyauthor/tp/Michael_Crichton_Movies.htm)

There is so much out there that I would recommend, and not as much time, unless you make it. Happy hunting
