posted a message on Mantra of Retribution
the only semi-useful rune for it, if you are in a group tanking for other people, is the indignation rune (especially when combined with cyclone strike since all the gathered mob around you are hitting you anyway)

semi-useful though, and requires that your gear is already good enough to be tanking without mantra of healing for resists, or mantra of evasion either, the stuns really help control some nasty packs sometimes.

hmm, this is quite lame , as being a melee char usually means opening up inventory screen and swapping gear pieces with less survivability = instant death since u are standing mostly in the middle of stuff and not like ranged characters have some safe distance ...

i wish blizz could add this as a built in option to solve this issue =/

also, i am curious about darkD3, what is it exactly ?

I noticed there was a topic about this earlier here on the forums but it got deleted, which made me wonder, are gear/equipment switchers illegal / bannable by blizzard ?

if i recall correctly, there were addons that did the same exact feature for wow, and they werent banned, in fact, later blizzard incorporated the same feature into their own default UI for the game in a patch.

any thoughts about the topic ? it seems like a gear switcher with one button to easily switch gear for the kill for more mf would be the most practical solution as opening the inventory window and spam clicking stuff to equip it usually ends in being distracted and dead.

also, please don't post any links to any gear switching software, i don't want this thread to get locked, this is mostly for discussion purposes only :)

posted a message on Act 2 ~ Am i overgeared or undergeared?
    Quote from KraiseKr

KK thanks for the advice, i will elaborate more:

the monster type is that fast lacuni like creature that releases a cloud of toxic gas when dead they live in the waterlogged area northwest to the Oasis

they came in a pack of 4 with fire chains, desecrator, immobilize and knockback, the halls were really tight and their ability to immobilize allowed them to combo with their fire chains crossing over me all the time plus the desecrator damage

    I played with

    Conviction+Overawe
    Thunderclap
    serenity+extra heal
    BOH+dmg buff
    Blinding Flash+dmg buff
    Sweeping wind + bladestorm

    transcendence+seize the initiative + owe

it was really hard to kite them because they could immobilize me add the fact that they are real fast by nature, i had 4 NV stacks when i reached them but managed to die 5-6 times what forced me to quit farming that Act

try this, mantra of healing with time of need instead of conviction + overawe
serenity with ascension rune (1 second of extra immunity = 1 second of being able to stand and damage them more before you start running again)

if you got more than 25% crit chance, use sweeping wind with cyclone rune, not bladestorm

this should overall allow you to survive more, as well as boost your dps (from the cyclones) to compensate for the loss of conviction overawe

also, the situation you describe is quite tough, if you were playing in a more open space vs those, you would probably have done fine (so don't feel too bad about it)

another tip : spam potions like there's no tomorrow, don't be afraid to waste the gold on a potion because in the end, the total cost for buying a full 100 potion stack is less than the gold you might pay for repairs if you die :)

if you have a potion cooldown up with no other options to heal, USE IT ! :D

your stats are definitely good to play well and do very fine in act 2

i can't seem to guess what could be your problem other than 2 or 3 things that come to mind

1- your playstyle is not enough hit and run, you tend to stand around too much therefore you die because you don't try to run while waiting for your cooldowns to be ready again (mainly serenity and blinding flash)

2- your skill build has some bad choices? elaborate on what are you using for all 6 skills + runes + passives ??

3- you are using thunderclap in a wrong way, click on mobs to hit them while they have desecrate/plague/fire under their feet thus causing yourself unnecessary damage (try to be selective when to click and not just spam attack)

will respond with further input once you give feedback about your build

also, are there particular monster TYPES that give you problems (not affixes, but rather the mob type) because sometimes what you are doing wrong is not taking into account how to avoid damage from this particular kind of monster (dodging the overhead attack of fallen overlords when you see them jumping up to hit you by moving out of their hit, etc)

also, at other times the main problem is the playing space/level (if it's a small tight area where you can't when you need, or get stuck in objects or terrain, it can be tougher to fight certain packs under these conditions than if you were fighting them in an open space)

another thing to note, sometimes around the main elite pack there are normal ranged mobs with very high damage abilities (fire guardians in act 2 for example, the ones that do a main attack that sends a firebolt that explodes leaving a pool of fire on the ground) if some of these normal mobs are around you while you are focusing an elite/champion pack, their abilities might be what is causing you more damage than the elites themselves due to ignoring killing them first.

other tips include dealing with arcane sentry beams, always try to avoid them before they start spinning because you don't know in which direction the beam is going to start spinning so you shouldn't rely on it spinning the other way before moving out of its reach, also i know it's hard to do this ... but if you find that you are going to get hit by an arcane sentry beam and there is no other way to avoid it, you should run OPPOSITE to the direction the beam is coming from, that way it only hits you once while going through you fast to minimize damage taken, if you try to run AWAY it might be faster than you and it will keep following you and damaging you.

always avoid and keep an eye for frozen orbs before they explode, and run away from them (don't get too distracted if there are too many mobs at melee range and you can't see under your feet if there is an orb or not) if you see orbs spawning around you and you can't tell for sure if there is one underneath you, move just in case to a safe area (if you have serenity on cooldown and its ready, and you are unsure if you will get frozen or not, wait to get frozen FIRST before using it to break the freeze... because you might have no orbs under you and not get frozen... then this means you saved the serenity cooldown instead of wasting it)

save your blinding flash cooldown to interrupt important abilities that might cause you lots of damage (multiple fallen champions jumping up with their overhead axe attack to hit you, use the blind during their jump animation to cancel their attacks, and so on with other monsters who have special attack animations as well)

i was just going to ask about that too, did the new patch actually increase or decrease your dps ?

i am guessing a small decrease because the 1.5 aps became less ?

    *Edit*

i was asking you a question on stream but i guess you don't really check the chat much there , so i'll paste it here, along with the conversation that followed with some people
    • Bloody_mando: i was wondering about something, since you're relying on very high damage output and bursting down mobs, and no real sustain, and mainly stacking crit chance increase and crit damage increase, wouldn't your playstyle essentially benefit even further from wielding the highest damage possible two hander, preferably with a really high +crit damage modifier and a socket??
    • » go in, burst down mobs during cooldowns, run away, repeat , that would work even better with a 2h ?
    • Avengedprophet: one handers offer more +crit dmg than a 2hander can
    • Bloody_mando: you mean as a flat out value per item, because he can get the affix also on a shield ?
    • » but the difference in damage value per weapon, even with a lower crit damage % increase (relatively) would be an overall more dramatic increase in dps (1500 dps 2h etc)
    • Avengedprophet: is he using a shield and a 1hander or two 1 handers?
    • Bobanee: Bloody_mando he have alot of dext + 10% crit on his shield
    • Bloody_mando: yes, what i am saying simply, is an extra 500 damage on main weapon, worse than the lots of dexterity + 10% crit on shield ?
    • Bloody_mando: you cant really say for sure unless you run his stats and gear into a dps spreadsheet and compare
what are your thoughts about this?

the stream is currently offline, but i checked your youtube channel, impressive diablo speedkill there :)

i noticed that your current stats have ZERO life on hit, as well as no lifesteal, as well as no life per spirit spent, and no transcendence passive, what exactly are you using to sustain other than breath of heaven ?

it says 136-154% chance to dodge, can someone explain how that works out, because i don't think it means you'll dodge every attack, right? ^^

their calculations are incorrect, i already stated that in the first post, people are checking the stat windows (which are way off than the actual values these items would produce) and not the items themselves -.- !

i suspected something was too good to be true with that %armor thing

also, are you sure about the attack speed? guess they need to sort their item affixes more.... also, you can never really have something as "too much resists" unless you are willing to completely remove resist affixes from some items for something else (and since the items already have the max vitality/dexterity value , i am not sure which other affixes might be beneficial in terms of boosting damage more (maybe crit chance and crit damage i guess, but these are usually on jewelry only ? or are they possible on armor slots too?)

Edit : couldn't add movement speed affix to boots, i really wish there was a better character planner out there to customize more correctly -.- !

lets say all the extra %armor affixes gets removed (and instead of it is a socketed affix in the item slots that allow for sockets, and in the slots that dont allow sockets, a crit chance or crit damage affix)

posted a message on Theoretical Best In Slot monk setup
I was toying around with a character planner i found recently and started picking out rare items with customized values the way i would exactly prefer perfectly rolled stats on my monk's items

this is the final result i ended up with

    http://d3db.com/tool/planner/monk/28079

mind you, this character planner is farm from accurate when adding things like dodge value, or calculating correct attack speed, or damage value, as well as hp values (so the values in the stat windows to the right are not to be fully trusted, i did a manual calculation of my item stats and found them to be MUCH more than listed in the tables to the right)

so you really should check each individual item's stat if you want to get a clearer picture

any ideas or feedback? i am guessing this is what ideally what i would hope to finally reach one day (gear wise)

also to note : i was having problems with adding socketed affix, was unable to pick it for some odd reason, not sure why even though they have the option avaiable, and even at times when it was available, i was unable to select 2 or 3 sockets but only 1 (on items that allow for more than one socket), so these items dont have any sockets for that reason mainly.

show me how you would build your own monk? would your stat/item choices be different?

posted a message on DR, Damage, Gear spreadsheet.
for some reason i enter everything correctly but the DPS number (cell d12 on the damage sheet) seems off by a big amount (almost 1k dps difference than my ingame tooltip)

is this the slight error you mentioned in a note in the sheet "Tooltip DPS for Dual Wield and +damage% weapons will be slightly off due to rounding order errors. " or is it supposed to be smaller than that ?

also there are 2 values that i dont exactly understand where to get them from on the character sheet

Total Minimum Damage & Total Maximum Damage, where exactly should i get these values to input them here ? (this is the only value that i havent figured out where to get, and i am guessing maybe this is the reason for the difference ?)

    Quote from GhostLoad

Okay so I did this build through Act 1 Inferno, and it helped quite a bit, but now I'm in Act 2. I'm now getting SHIT ON!

I was thinking about dropping the Transcendence passive for One With Everything, and pick up 1 resistance on all my gear (along with Vitality and Dexterity or Increased Attack Speed).

What do you guys think? Is it worth the trouble? Will it help me live?

this is definitely a good choice to make if you are lacking resistance gear wise until you can replace it with transcendence later on

Perhaps I'm just a effin noob, but I read this and it was like I finally figured out monk lol, just cleared skeleton king, 5 neph and killed all packs on my way down to him. Thanks SOOOOO much for this :) :) :)
    Quote from Fuleira

this build is strong. ive cleared 80% of act 1 with this. my gear is lame (no vit whatsoever) but im having trouble only with molten or fire chain elites or those ridiculous combos (jail + arcane)

I'm glad to see that some people benefited from the info and build, you're welcome :)
however, if you're doing average with it in act 1, that means you'll get slaughtered in act 2 without farming a bit more, don't leave act 1 until you are comfortably zipping through all champions and bosses at a noticeable ease.

    Quote from Getstupid

So this far has just been a walk in the park, even act I on inferno was easy!
Came to act II and bam! Felt like someone took a bat and just bashed my head in.. Even the normal mobs was hitting me hard and elites/champions was just ruining me!

    Here's my stats/build

    HP: 52k
    Armor: 6342
    Dmg: 9857
    Dmg reduction: 67%
    Dodge: 47%
    Ress to all: 562 (65%)

    Vit: 1451
    Dex: 1312

    Build: http://eu.battle.net...Ygij!YUX!ZaYYZc

Been playing both solo and with a WD and a DH, both good geared and doing insane dmg! I know I'm not suppose to tank elites like I used to but I mean what the hell? Can't even stand close to em without dying... I just feel so useless, especially considering the amount of time and money I spent getting this gear.

I've tried switching around my build with other runes and abilities but doesn't seem to help at all.

check this thread out, also note the few ending remarks,
