Drop rates were not touched at any point in the game prior to Act 3/4 of Hell difficulty (where they were improved).
Drop rates of ilevel 62/63 gear in Act 3/4 Inferno were technically nerfed, but will be fixed in the next day or so with 1.0.3b.
Champions
- Blue guys (as they were called in Diablo 2)
- Count towards the achievements "The Takedown", "Not So Tough Now" and "Champion's Collection"
- Give 1 stack of Nephalem Valor, guaranteed 1 rare drop at 5-stacks.
Rares
- Yellow guys (1 elite leader, with a pack of minions sharing most of his powers)
- Count towards the achievements "Keep It Rare", "Rarin' to Go" and "A Rare Phenomenon"
- Give 1 stack of Nephalem Valor, guaranteed 1 rare drop at 5-stacks.
Uniques
- Guys that glow yellow but got a purple name and no listed powers.
- Count towards the achievements "Never Seen That Before", "Special Snowflakes" and "A Unique Collection"
- Does NOT give 1 stack of Nephalem Valor, guaranteed 1 blue drop on death (after 1.0.3 but prior to 1.0.3a they almost exclusively dropped gold only, this was an unintended bug and has been fixed)
Elites
- Umbrella category for all the above 3 sub-groups
- Kills of any enemy of the 3 sub-groups is counted towards the achievements "Among The Elite", "The Elitist", "Elitist Bubble", "Elitist Jerks", and "Elitist Few".

Give that a shot. That shield is very nice aside from the low block, what a shame. With your LoH now I bet you'll do well. Also, try the LoH weapon + shield if Dual Wielding isn't doing it for you. That weapon is worth more DPS than its face value shows, the +200 dex does a good amount for it. In fact, you may not lose much DPS ditching the fist and using the spear, but play with it each way and see what works best.

For those of us who are not and did not... looks great!

Have you read the Dragon Tattoo Trilogy yet? Much of the same page-turning excitement of Dan Brown's stuff. Some of the material can be a bit tough to stomach at times.
Not a series, but Stephen King's '11/22/63' was excellent, a tiny sci-fi twist in it, but not much. I thought it sounded boring by the descriptions, but it was excellent.
Sadly, most of my other recommendations would be Fantasy Series =) If you want to give one a try, I'd highly, highly, highly recommend the Mistborn trilogy by Branden Sanderson.

lol.
I was reminded of Colbert's closing question to his guests:
"President Bush, great president or greatest president?"

So you've verified that Force Armor does exactly what it says!
43000 x 0.35 = 15050
45000 x 0.35 = 15750
49000 x 0.35 = 17150
=P
But yes, you just jumped onto why people initial used Force Armor and tiny tiny tiny HP pools combined with Diamond Skin to get through Inferno. Which worked wonderfully until they did the hotfix where Force Armor only absorbs up to your max HP, so exactly as misiceman said, you've got to balance it out.
