posted a message on Noob Player Needs Help :-)

    Hi Guys,

I played casually since D1 but stopped playing before season 1 of D3. I play maximum 4 hours a week so I guess I will stay in non-season. After I came back to D3 this week I found that I am so far behind :-) I don't even have any thing to put in for cube powers.

    [/header]

    Here is my profile:

    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Carpenters-1734/hero/73264757

I have a few questions and any help is greatly appreciated.

    1. I understand that the best way to gear up is to do regular rift like there is no tomorrow, and I can do T3 rift without dying but super slow. Should I focus on T1 or T2 for now?

    2. Should I start to obtain legendary gems? I can do GR18 slowly :-(

    3. For cube rare upgrades and gambling, what should I go for first?

    Best Regards,

    Carpenters

posted a message on Returned Player Looking for Help

    Hi Guys,

I played D3 since beta casually (2-4 hours per week) and stopped about August 2015 for personal reasons. Today I decided to come back and my game is now installing :-)

I stopped before the season thing, so I have no clue what are the major updates I should know about. Could someone help me to point me to the major updates that I should get familiar with? Thanks a lot! Today I went to Diablo Fans and read about the set dungeons man I was clueless :-P

    Thanks so much!

posted a message on Several questions regarding to HotA build
Hi, I consider myself as a less skilled player and the only level 60 char I have right now is a P-lvl 57 barb,

I mainly lurk in this forum for gaining knowledge of gears and game mechanics, and with the help of numerous posts I was able to build my current character and farm MP8 without dying too much:

    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Carpenters-1734/hero/4089105

I currently have a few understandings about this build but I am not sure if they are correct. Therefore I would be highly appreciated if someone can correct me :-) Plus, any suggestion on my current gear/skill set up would be really nice.

    1. Will weapon mastery benefit from both main-hand and off-hand weapons? If so, then with a mighty weapon equipped, is it true that every hit (including run-like-wind tornadoes) will generate 3 additional fury, or just the hit from mighty weapons (as skill like HotA will alternate between MH and OH)?

    2. Is it true that if I hit multiple target at once (e.g. 5), I will gain 5 * 3 * 1.2 (Animosity Passive) = 18 fury just from the mighty weapon?

    3. During single target fights, even if I crit every time I hit with HotA, it is not guaranteed that I will gain the 15 * 1.2 = 18 fury from the Battle Rage. Therefore it's not always possible to spam HotA till the single target dies, right?

    4. Does applying Rend qualifies as "hit"? If so, if I apply rend to multiple target at the same time, will Rend be free?

Whatever, please don't forget: simplyfying things opens up the market for a considerable huger playerbase.

That type of thinking is what got us to where we are in the videogame industry.

    Yepp, completly agree.

Over simplyfying to a degree where you dont have to use your brain anymore isnt good at all.
Games need to be hard to master ;) Thats the whole fun^^

As one of the so called "brainless noob player", here is my perception of "fun":

For me, playing video games is a lot like having a beer. Do I feel like to solve a system of linear equations in order to open the bottle? No. As a research scientist, solving hard problems is part of the job description. Therefore I prefer giving my limited brain a break while relaxing. I really enjoy the idea of mindlessly smashing monsters (with D3's awesome combat system) 99% percent of the time and only once in a while (1% of the time) stop to think about how can I improve (with no punishment on making "bad" skill/rune decisions). I don't mind being "sub-optimal" or "slow" in my farming process, since I play this game just for the relaxation. I also have long term motivation for this game, smashing foes once in a while with my character slowly progressing. And I assume there are quite a few players like me.

Therefore, I don't think the existence of "oversimplifying games" is a bad thing, and I am very happy that there are such high quality games like D3 for me to play.

P.S. Sorry for the bad English :)

posted a message on Is Torchlight's website down?
So today I went to DFans and it seems that the torchlight 2 is available. I liked TL and I think of it as a fun game worthy of the 20 dollars.

But I just cannot get on their website... Is it just me or their server is down?

BTW I am still a huge D3 fan who enjoy multiple games at the same time XD

posted a message on 100MF Act I or 0MF ACT II? My experience and some simple math
TL;DR: 0MF ACT II might be more rewarding in terms of more ilvl 62+ rares. NV buffs make the difference in MF not that noticeable.

    Background:

I am sort of a below average noob player, so the only comfortable play style for me is to tank all the mobs with my face and only avoiding fires on the ground. Therefore I found ACT III progressing too stressful for my current gear and skill. So the farming option for me is just ACT I or ACT II. I can clear ACT I with my eyes shut and ACT II without dying in my current defensive gear. Thus, I want to try to get some MF gear and see which one is more rewarding: 100MF ACT I or 0MF ACT II.

    Assumptions:

First I will show some simple math reasoning, which is based on the following assumptions:

    1. Our goal in farming is to get the maximum number of ilvl 62+ RARE+ items while having fun.

    2. MF will not increase the number of items nor the ilvl of items, only the likelihood of this item being blue/rare+.

    3. The chance of getting a rare increase linearly with MF. For example, if you originally have 10% chance getting a rare item, with 100MF you now have 20% chance.

    Results:

So now let's assume you have 30% chance of getting a rare off a champion pack. Then after 10 packs, in average you will have 3 rare items. But if you have 100MF, you will get 6 instead of 3. This seems quite an advantage. However, NV buffs come into play. You will get one guaranteed rare for every pack you kill. With 5 NV and 0MF, you will have 10 + 1.75 * 3 = 15.25 rare items. With 5 NV and 100MF, you will have 10 + 2.75 * 3 = 18.25 rare items. With some RNG, this will hardly be that noticeable.

Now considering the fact that ACT II drops twice as many ilvl 63 items and 50% percent more ilvl 62 items than ACT I, you might have a much more satisfying experience in ACT II in our current setting.

Indeed, I use quite a few made up numbers in these equations, but the ideas are the same. (I might be able to build some models using Bernoulli distribution for a likelihood ratio test and confidence intervals in order to obtain the probability of getting more ilvl 62 rare items in ACT I or II, but that will be even more boring to read XD).

    Personal Experiences:

For the past week, I have been trying to farm ACT I with 100MF or ACT II with 0MF at the frequency of 2 hours every two days (an extremely small sample). I found 2 upgrades in each ACT, but I have to say I like ACT II a lot better. Personally I feel more satisfying to identify ilvl 62+ items, while in ACT I I sometimes need to identify and vendor several ilvl 55- rares in a row, which is annoying.

Sorry for the long post, and I do not know how to attach a photo of potato :-)

posted a message on Weapon Quality in early acts of Inferno...
I found my 1033DPS one hand mighty weapon with 130str + 120 Vit and 1800 life after kill in ACT II, and a 1450 DPS two hand axe with 140 str in ACT I butcher. Both are ilvl 63, though. So I guess you do have a better chance at ACT III and IV.

posted a message on Experiences with the new drop rates?
I guess the most obvious indicator would be the price of the Essence. Pre this hotfix it goes about 1.8K each, so I just mindlessly savage any ilvl 60+ item (ilvl 60 item have a nice chance getting inferno essence as well). Now each one goes for around 1.1k, therefore I have to choose between savaging and selling (OTZ so much more work...)

So my guess will be there are a whole lot more ilvl 60+ items dropping for everyone.

posted a message on Never give up :-)
So today when I was progressing inferno ACT 2 for the first time, I got into one of the dungeons where the blood is located. I encountered 2 packs (in 2 different places) of elites that totally facerolled me, so I decided to bypass them and cleared the rest of the dungeon. Then I realized I have to pass them to get to the quest item.

Then I picked a safe corner area and planed to drag them over there and suicide. When they followed me to that little platform, I thought why not try to smash them and die in the middle of battle? Then I leap in, ignore pain, WotB, and beat the shit out of them XD

I kited them around that place for a bit to wait for Leap/Ignore Pain/Pot CD, but it was totally not that bad. And it feels so so awesome when I collect their crappy loot. I think one of the pack is the mobs that can keep spinning and slice you into small pieces, with fire puddle + fire chain + molten + XX that made my barb shit in the ilvl 60 pants. But not any more :-)

As a civil person I would like to thank you for your response and I do hope you guys look into this issue. I literally went from playing 12+ hours a day to 1 hour simply because its unrewarding to see ilvl 51-56 rares drop from a champ and rare packs in Act III. The risk/reward just ain't worth my time anymore. I really want to like this game but I just can't right now
Hah. Well, thanks. I'll get back as soon as I hear something.

is what i want to know aswell tbh...Getting ilvl 50 items in something like Inferno drop is a waste of time tbh.
I'm all for random generator, but in all honestly, give me a lvl 60 item with whatever stats they might have, not some randon crap at lvl 51.

I have been farming ACT 2 quite a lot after patch, and frankly every time I tele back to town I have about 30% in my bag above ilvl 61. I sell the rest and turn all the ilvl 61+ items for mats. Most of the time those ilvl 61 items have worthless stats, but I think the likelihood to see that lvl is quite OK.

posted a message on Got 3 NV stacks from 1 pack of elites, anyone experienced this b4?
Yesterday night I decided to give ACT 2 a try on my barb after the 1.03 nerf.

So the first pack is composed of 3 blue mobs, with quite easy combos for melee, therefore I tanked them with my face and somehow I finished all 3 of them at once with revenge. Then I was like YAY first ACT 2 NV stack ever! And I saw that instead of 1, I got THREE stacks of NV buff.

Has anyone experienced the same glitch b4?

posted a message on Is it so hard to believe
For me it was also so hard to believe that there are Barbs that are too scared to even step in Inferno ACT I. But a friend of mine is. Every time I logged on he was farming Hell ACT 3/4.

So I guess people are so different from each other, more than we can imagine.

BTW I for one enjoy this game very much, but it never bothers me to see all the criticizing here and there.

Tried to kill Belial on my own (WD) for over an hour yesterday, didn't get through phase 2 (not even close). Joined a public game, played with monk, wiz and DH. sure it took us 2 hours but we did it. And when i checked, their gear and stats was quite similar to mine, so it wasn't some kick ass 130k DPS dude pushing us through.
Give public games another chance :)

Yeah from time to time I got bored and I will try it again :-)

posted a message on My only issue on Inferno so far
I play a barb and I am currently enjoying my time in ACT I inferno. Since I always consider myself as a "below average" player, I will not complain about the difficulty. When I got owned again and again, I mostly thought OK maybe I am not good enough.

My only issue with the current state of inferno is joining a public game and play with random ppl is nearly impossible now. Every single pack of elites (even with some easy combo) will hit so insanely hard and after one of us died, others got smashed even faster. I randomly inspected some of them, their gear are just beyond horrible. I can't help wondering if they were hoping to be carried along. The part where Blizzard claims that lots of chars in inferno is very under-geared might be very true.

I like to be able smash something with random other people from time to time, but for now I guess it's not possible in Inferno. Maybe this is working as intended, though.

    Sorry for terrible English.
