If they patched the game so an RG on GR 70 has 10 billion hp and not 10 trillion hp for an example, and then toned down the players' damage accordingly, wouldn't that reduce server stress? See, i didn't mean that they would add another calculation of divison / multiplication along the way, but rather to reduce all of the numbers in their inception...

no that would not make a difference. as i said, the size of the numbers is not imporant.
If they reduce damage from the players and hp of guardians the situation would still be the same except numbers being smaler. that would not make it better.
you can reproduce the lag on grift 35 or 25. Just fish a high density rift and do not equip a weapon. It will lag like fuck

posted a message on Fix the lag

the lag has nothing to do with grift level. i can experience the lag even on 35 is the density is hhigh enough and your damage low.

If the mobs are not oneshottet its start to lag because all the effects have to be calculated.

And not. deviding them by a factor will not solve shit. Thats really a bad assumpation to make. Just because its easier for humans to work with small numbers, to expect that goes the same for computers is plain wrong.

This approach would even make it worse because division is a operation which can take significantly longer than multiplication. (24 to 4 cpu cycles)

    here is a list

    http://streamcomputing.eu/blog/2012-07-16/how-expensive-is-an-operation-on-a-cpu/

Thats also the reason why everything in diablo2 is x+x1+x2 * y+y1+y2 *z+z1*u

There will be no gain of performance by making another additional calculation to get smaler numbers.

And no, you cannot substitute 100/10 by 100*0,1 this would chaneg the nature of the operation from integer to floating point.

Floating point operations are better performed on the GPU than on the CPU , thus this approach would require another step to include code for executing operations on your GPU

To elaborate more on this : in the link there is said "the killer: repetition"

that means if an operation takes 1 second its fine. if you need to run the same operation a bazillion times its bad.

In this case, repetion is the number of monsters you hit. The more you hit, the more repetion. Since for every mob the damage it received has to be calculated. Efffects like area damage make this even worse. becaus you might run into a two-pass problem, where you cannot calulate the whole damage in the first repretion but need another one to apply effects which depend on the first iteration.

I asume area damage needs this second pass - Because it applies part of the damage you did before to the mobs around it. So you need to know beforehand if you hit that mob and for what damage.

I also asume that the "fix" for area damage was not implemented earlier because blizzard knew exactly that this will cause a slowdown. What has driven them to fix it now is a mystery to me. It was totally forseeable what would happen.

I had removed the effect from the game completly.

Things which cause lag are pretty easy to spot. If an item causes a value to change rapidly a lot of server client communication is required in comparision to a constant value.

e.g. Archon stacks . each stacks changes your paperdps and toughness this has to be synchronized with the server causing even more slowdown in addition to the general calculatory problem.

There is also this thing called action predition in server / client communication.

Normaly if you do something you have to wait for the server to accept this before you can do something else. In Diablo and other online games the client continues immediatly with the next action without waiting for an acknowledge of the previous action.

If the server acknowledges the previous action the client just continues. However if the server does not accept it , the client reverts to the previous state - makes a rollback so to say. (only for actions not for gear)

This is especially the case the faster you do these state changes. (e.g archon stacks). When you are changing states too quicl the game goes to choppy mode and takes only the response from the server as a given state. And these come in infrequently.

    Sorry i dont understand you..

    you said :

and I just got to where I can almost handle T6 solo

What are you doing? and why dont you have a tal rasha set after 700 paragon levels ? ( it was available before patch already )

You dont have a strongarms for blackhole?

Thanks for your feedback. Until the last week of S2 I was running a WoW/Mirrorball build that I could do T3-4/GR22 with. Then I finally got my Furnace. That and my first decent FB pieces immediately jumped me to where I am now, GR36-38 solo. The reason I say struggle in T6 is because when I group to farm A1 bounties for RoRG (we used to do this on Normal, now everyone's on T6!), without my Templar the mobs chew me up pretty fast (all 3 lives, yup). Also it takes me a loooong time to kill Keywardens until a DH pops in to one-shot them. Even solo. So, yup. :(

If I ever saw Strongarm bracers drop, I sure didn't know it. Then again I salvaged lots of gear before I had any idea of the potential synergies. I'm only p414, mostly because of my OP ... not feeling very efficient at all man. I have a Tal Rasha set but it's crap rolled? Part of what I guess I underestimate about builds is the set bonuses. I didn't use my FB for a long time because the pieces I found were shit compared to the non-set legs I had gathered. Of course I can try putting on my TR set and do a few grifts but I don't really have high hopes for that.

In any case I don't know if that would solve the issue that finding gear and leveling is taking me forever and it's killing my motivation for this spreadsheet game.

Thansk for not being offended and explaining. it just seemed unreasonable to me.

Well your gear is ok. However firebird is not to easiest to play, nor is it very strong anymore in the way you play it.

IF you only have firebird set at your disposal i would highly recommend trying to get your hand on a halo of arlyse. With that ring you can play a melee firebird spec. mainly focusing on hydra. iam sure you can find it in the guides section.

I asume 38 takes you like at least 12 minutes, does that sound right?

well you're already in a good spot with that build / gear.

you reached like the entry point for end-end-content.

now its just getting better rolls on your gear ( or switching to a completely different set - tal rasha or desle)

While there are certain builds currently which really play well on t6 - firebird is one of them - if the right build / items are chosen.

Your build is more pointing to greater rifts instead of clearing t6 fast and efficiently.

You can optimize your gear in both ways. or you can have two wizzards - thats what i do :D - because iam lazy to switch.

That includes i want legendary gems for all my characters . so i automatically level more then 3 legendary gems. - i might have around 20 leveld gems. between 25 and 40. For some this might sound much, for some it wont. ..

Iam not paragon 1000 or something like that.. they probably have much more..

    However its a long way/grind.

Getting the first set of gear is always taking a little longer if you dont know what to do and you disenchant the wrong items /keeping the wrong.

my fellow posters have said a lot about tal rasha already but delsere is also a lot of fun.

So just keep everything you find and one day you will have all sets and all important items for each build and then you can start choosing and experimenting.

For now if you have nothing else i would recommend just sticking to firebird. and maybe try to make the transition to melee.

Read up a little bit on t6 farming with firebird and what you could change.

LEvel a second wizard. Put your secondary gear there. Gamble for new sets. Play a lot of t6 in groups.

At the most important thing : Have a Goal. e.g try to equip next wizard. or try to equip a zdps wd i dunno.

Than think or ask how to farm for that gear most efficiently. Mostly it will be like - gamble set, then gamble legendaries for the build.

Generate the bloodshards with a character who can already farm t6 or grifts fast.

However you have nothing like that. so focus on the one thing you have. It just takes time to get the first working character.

Yes the season guys are quick because they play 50 hours in the first 2 days. in 50 hours you can get to grift 40 with a little luck and group play.

You said you played like 400 hours. Is that all in expansion, or including vanilla.

If it is 400 hours you clearly did not play those 400 hours since the last patch.

I only play solo at the moment, or at least have until this point. I have done xp grifting only twice for like 3 hours. and that was in season 2.

With my new character i leveld in grift 35 to paragon 300 in about 2 hours..

Reaching paragon 300 when ROS was released well took me muuuuuuuuuch longer.

The huge gap between you and the top is groups speed griften. which comes with big xp and big legendaries. because they do so many rifts in short time. 4 min for grift 35 or 45 depending on the quality of the group . is like i dunno 15? 20? times the xp of a t6 rift.. it really is amazing! even on 600

But.. you wont find a group if you dont already have a charactler like this . or you have good friends.

So well... you're up to you . and thats not a bad thing since you play solo.

It will just take longer for you. Significantly.

not 400 hours.. but another 50 hours maybe until you have everything together for a quick t6 wizard and a high 45+ grift wizzard.

You said you underestimated the set boni - that is correct they we'rent as good before.

So instead of saying you played 400 hours. take like the time since you aimed to get the firebird build working.

Thats the point were you really started playing.

With your gear i could easily do grift 40 ... - in combination with the reward coming along side..

What are you doing? and why dont you have a tal rasha set after 700 paragon levels ? ( it was available before patch already )

You dont have a strongarms for blackhole?

With that gear you should just need to cast blizzard on some mobs in t6 and continue walking to the next mobs.. how can you call that "almost handle t6 solo" ... you would roflstamp it...

In the past crystals was problem ... they fixed it. But now we have lot of crystals and dont have arcane dust :/

    Need balance!

I am so sick of this qq need everything attitude.

In the past you got 2 crystals per 5 dust for a 2:5 ratio

They did nothing to arcane dust, nor should they have, in my eyes they simply have a bad ratio of yellow to blue drops currently in game, and this would drastically fix the crafting material disparity.

Iam so sick of this people who say they hate qq but qq themself - just with different words actually stating the same as the previous guy.

    @topic.

remove everything blue and white and reduce it to one crafing material. + souls.

And add Gems as recipe requiremen.

gives gems more meaning... which is nice because you can use them in multiple purposes.

    1) for boosting you up

    2) for crafting

and you can spread the use better intead of having a requirement of what is it.. 50 whites for bracers make it 1 of each gem..

i have something in mind as to convert 10 blues or 10 whites requirement in recipes with 1 gem each - random for non fixed roll legendaries

and distinguashable for items which have e.g +fire damage as devastator . should require mostly rubys.... etc etc etc

That also would make these stupid farm blues and farm yellows runs obsolete because you cant really targetly farm gems. better do t6 and goblins in rifts.

Balancing for more or less gems is the question then. but thats up to blizzard.

You might still have to little of them, but its less clutter, more fun -(i think) and its not as annoying.

it just better serves the game flaw...

If you never want to run out of things dont play diablo.. its a farming game. you cant have unlimited resources.

what you can make instead is having it not be a nuisiance.

oh and also.. broken crown will be awesome !

It's hard for me to tell what you are working with because I am on my phone. But, you need an ancient gesture of Orpheous of the element that you use. I personally rune arcane with a pre 2.2 gesture just so slow time does way more damage.

Its nice to have a guesture of orpheus pre patch because of the cooldownreduction.

But slowtime has always the element type of your highest element - if using delsere ? correct me if iam wrong - please i want to make sure.

But consider it would take your highest elemental -

And you had for example 30% fire damage increase on amulet and bracers. then slow time would be fire.

i cleared 50 solo with gizzard on first try.

ill want to try esoteric too, but currently i would say it really doesnt matter which one you take unless you are really cutting edge . then esoteric might be better because it boosts your toughness much more then the shield from gizzard does. so you can go higher grift levels without being oneshotted

the last thing you mentioned is specifically used in making grift 35+ xp runs , do 10 trials in 4 player mode. everyone has another 11th high level stone = make 44 rifts in a row.

posted a message on What to trust when choosing the better armor

if you could base your decision on the tooltip and the green or red numbers alone, we would not need a forum to discuss all kinds of stuff for min / maxing stats.

    1) its difficult

    2) it requires common sense (many have none)

    3) the tooltip is an indicator ,nothing more. The game is only crunshing the numbers not making an educated suggestion.

    4) decisions on which item is better should most often be based on what you want to achieve not whats on the tooltip.

example: If you play a WD and you find an armor which gives you +5% toughness but removes a 15% haunt damage (witch doctor jade doc speaking) you have a choice. Will you accept the loss in damage for a chance to survive longer?

Well you should not , because Jade doc is based on perma immunity and smart play style using your cooldowns. It is not about toughness.

If you die often as a jade doc there are two reasons : you are not good enough playing the build or you have too little cooldown reduction.

Thats just an example, dont take it personally if i hit a spot here.

Edit: it sounds like you are a console player , so if you have questions, write down the stats of both items, and ask here. - However since we cannot see the whole character we might still give you the wrong advice, because it cannot often be decided based on comparing the two items in question directly.
