The fact that you MUST use the auction house in order to succeed is what's bugging everyone.
The game was supposedly soloable but it clearly is not. I, just as the OP, have not found a single upgrade in the countless Butcher runs. Or anything else of value. Which is just retarded compared to D2, where I did not have any AH, did not trade with other players yet finished the game while enjoying every bit of 'farming'.
This. This is exactly why I opened a ticket with Blizzard and got a refund after hitting the inferno wall. They changed the game formula to something I don't like. I don't want to have to use the stupid AH to play, and I don't want to get destroyed by monsters just because I joined my friends' game and caused their damage to be amplified even more (though I hear they at least fixed that). I STILL play Diablo 2, and I find it to be a better experience. I will see what games like Grim Dawn, Path of Exile, and Torchlight 2 (played the beta, it was enjoyable) bring to the table when I get to play them, but Diablo 3 failed as my arpg of choice.
Wait. Less content than D2, or D2 and LoD? Also, there's one more difficulty than D2X and crafting. I mean, gotta give a little somewhere, but it seems somewhat pointless to compare than outright, really.
I don't think it needs to be that complicated. Maybe in normal and nightmare will your overall damage matter that much, but after that what will matter most is your ability to survive. You're not going to be able to dish a lot of DPS if your resources are going to your defensive skills, mobility and controlling effects. Not that it would be 100% useless of course, but I don't really think it would be that much help. You're going to know pretty easily whether or not your can succeed in defeating the bosses and mobs of a difficulty.
To be fair, we all knew about the online-only aspect a LONG time before any purcahse was made, so complaining about it is a little silly. That said, they really should pull their heads out and get this crap working so what they have presented works as intended.
Level 0, finishing up my nightly routine (shower, make coffee, check the doors, check the kids, etc) so that when 1:01am hits here where I'm at I can make a toon or two for saving names, maybe play for a couple of minutes, and then go pass out =)
Don't worry about making names to save, you can name them whatever you want, the only thing that matters is battletags, and even those aren't unique, giving each person numbers after their name.
I am on my couch, starring at the clock, hoping I can speed up time. (Turns out I can't...)
Oh wow, I didn't know that. Thanks Screw it, I'm going to bed lol
